CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE:
YOU ARE NOT BROKEN

WHY DID SHE REACT LIKE that? That was the first question that came to Sapphire's head when she had walked away from the lab. It had been so out of character for her that she scared herself with the act. She couldn't even imagine what her sister was thinking. Hell, what was she thinking? Bringing out the part of her that HYDRA had created. She could have really hurt her sister. Finding the bathroom, Sapphire was quick to enter, locking herself inside and placing her hands on her head, closing her eyes tightly as she took deep shaky breaths she tried to stop herself from panicking.

All of her thoughts started to attack her at once. Was Jemma going to expose her? Was she going to tell everyone that she had become HYDRA's successful experiment? Had she been hurt? Was she okay? What was she thinking about? And then the worst question came to mind that made tears spring to her eyes. What if she was afraid of her? She ran one hand through her hair while placing the other over her mouth, sliding down the wall and wondering what the hell she's done. She tried not to cry, she tried to keep her emotions on the inside but she had done that so long with HYDRA, that she couldn't do it anymore.

Daisy Johnson made her way down the hall, a deep frown on her face as she went in search for Sapphire. She had to know that the woman was okay. She searched the training room, but didn't find her there. She checked the kitchens to see if she had maybe went to eat, but she wasn't there either. Heading towards the rooms, Daisy found herself slowing in her footsteps. The sound of soft sobs caught her attention, and immediately she knew where Sapphire was.

She took a careful step towards the door, closing her eyes and allowing her heart to shatter in her chest at the sound of Sapphire's heart wrenching sobs. Daisy knew exactly what she was thinking. She didn't want to bother her, but she had to reassure Sapphire that everything was okay. She knew how much she feared her sister fearing her. And she had a feeling that Sapphire hadn't meant for what happened to happen. She pressed her lips into a thin line, curling her hand into a fist to knock on the door, letting it hover there for a moment before knocking.

The sobs ceased, but little sniffles replaced them. Daisy pressed her hand against the door for a moment, silently begging for Sapphire to let her in and not push her away. They had started to get to a point, Daisy did want to ruin it. She expected for Sapphire to tell her to go away, or to just sit there in silence until Daisy finally forced herself to walk away, but she was surprised when the sound of the door being unlocked could be heard. It didn't open, but Daisy took that as her invitation to come in.

Carefully, Daisy pushed the bathroom door open. She peaked into the bathroom before finding Sapphire sat up against the far wall, her knees curled up to her chest with tear stains on her cheeks. Daisy could see the guilt, she could practically feel it radiating from her. Daisy carefully entered the bathroom, closing the door behind her and locking it back. She looked at Sapphire for a moment before walking over to her and taking a seat beside of her on the floor. They didn't speak, Daisy not exactly sure how to start and Sapphire was just embarrassed.

Daisy turned her head to look at Sapphire, leaning her head against the wall as she stared at the other woman for a moment before she reached a hand out and gently ran her thumb across her cheek, wiping away another stray tear that fell. Sapphire turned her head to look at Daisy before she pressed her cheek against the palm of the woman's hand, closing her eyes as she took in the comfort that was being provided. Slowly, Daisy pulled Sapphire into her arms, running a hand through her brown hair. The silence was enough for Sapphire.

After a few moments, Daisy forced herself to break the silence. "Are you alright?"

Sapphire clenched her jaw. "I almost attacked my sister. Of course I'm not alright. I knew this was going to happen. Why did you let me go through with it?"

"Because it needed to be done." Daisy softly whispered. She paused. "She doesn't see you any differently, Saph. She isn't going to tell anyone―︎ unless Fitz asks too many questions. She doesn't want to make you uncomfortable, and neither do I." Daisy looked down at Sapphire whose head was now in her lap, watching as Sapphire looked up at her.

Sapphire nervously reached up, caressing the woman's cheek. "You could never make me uncomfortable." She gave a sad smile. "In fact, as of recently, you've made me the most comfortable that I've been in a long while." She met Daisy's eyes, the two staring at one another for a moment before Sapphire gently pulled the woman down to her, closing her eyes as she pressed her lips against Daisy's, glad to feel Daisy kissing her back. This was all that she needed. She never realized how much Jemma was right about her needing someone until Daisy came along.

Sapphire pulled away, the smallest of smile's on her lips when she saw a small smile on Daisy's. She stared at her for a few moments, admiring all of her features. Sapphire had forgotten until this very moment that she wasn't the only mutant in the room. She carefully sat up, pressing her side against the wall as she turned to face Daisy. She licked her lips, swallowing thickly before asking the question she so desperately desired to know the answer to. "Do you think that they can fix me?"

Daisy stared at Sapphire for a moment before she shook her head, reaching out and grabbing Sapphire's hand. She offered her a sad smile, "No. I don't think they can fix you, because you don't need to be fixed. You are not broken. You're just a little damaged, and that's okay. We're all a little damaged. And we're all perfect just the way we are. And so are you. I'm going to help you through this, okay? You're not alone in this."

All Sapphire could do was nod.

All Sapphire could do was nod
