WHATEVER had happened that cold night of November where Margaret had let her feelings run wild had been left in the past. It had now been erased from existence.
Now, there wasn't only a lack of emotion display but a lack of Margaret herself, given she had locked herself in her bedroom for the past four days.
To say both Remus and Sirius were worried was an understatement. Margaret didn't talk; didn't acknowledge them, she just made herself present for dinner, pretended not to be there, and then disappeared back to her room. All whilst wearing a blank expression on her face, unreadable.
It had been so much, so unbearable for Sirius to watch that he had broken down the previous night.
"REACT, MARGARET! SAY SOMETHING! SCREAM AT ME! TAUNT ME! I DON'T FLIPPING CARE BUT JUST DO SOMETHING!" His face wore a worried frown and his eyes twinkled with tears that did not dare to run down. He leaned in, trying to catch some emotion from Margaret's somber look.
He was really scared. He only now realized how much he needed Margaret Potter.
Maggie stayed the same as ever, no twitch, no nothing. Poker face in place and muted.
It had been so long since Sirius had last heard her talk he was afraid he had already forgotten how she sounded like.
"Why don't you just talk— please," his words were accompanied by tears, "just let us know you are okay."
Remus stood there, watching as he too lost tiny tears. Unsure of what could possibly be done next.
Margaret Potter had entered a state of shock.
She heard and saw everything, but all she could really think about was the grief that had slowly consumed her inside out. Capturing her behind its icy black bars.
She wished to react, she wanted to talk, but all she could seem to do was go back to Alice and Frank Longbottom, to Lily and James, to Marlene, and all of those she had lost.
It all seemed to go back to the same old thing. Why was she here? What made her special enough not to go too to the place of the vanished?
She never asked for this, never wished for this to happen. She just wanted to disappear.
Margaret had once remembered discussing with Marlene and Cyrah what was more terrible; dying or surviving.
Cyrah and Marlene had argued that dying was harder because you had to face what everyone truly feared the most: death itself. And that if you were dying for someone that would be hard to do, given you had to put someone's benefit before yours and make a sacrifice.
