*Luca's pov*
The trio sat in the attic silently. They all say tight, holding onto eachother as they listened to the horror outside. Luca got up quietly and looked through the small hole in the roof that Massimo had yet to repair. He looked down, over the square, terrified. There were Portorossian men holding batons and harpoons, ready for any Pellegrini that got in their way. Most of the people, like Massimo, were in boats or on the harbour, helping sea monsters hide and tearing them free out of the atrocious nets.
"How's it looking?" Giulia asked quietly, hugging Alberto.
"...Not good. More men have joined Massimo..and I think the Pellegrini's are running out of nets that aren't torn.. but more of their boats are coming."
"I swear I've heard that name before. I can't pin point it." Alberto said, staring into space.
"They're friends of the Visconti's. They have both been very openly against sea monsters, and I guess..they chose to strike." Giulia said coldly.
Luca barely heard her, what was worrying him the most was his parents. They weren't in the deepest parts of the water, but hopefully deep enough that they weren't visible from the surface. He desperate wanted to go and find them, help them, but he knew he couldn't; no matter how much he wanted to. If any Pellegrini spotted him getting in the water, he'd be toast.
Alberto must've noticed his expression because he suddenly spoke "They'll be ok, Luca. Of all the times I've gone fishing with Massimo, I always know when we're near your house, but I never see it from the boat. They're safe."
"Besides, sea monsters who have moved up here have gone down there to warn them." Giulia said reassuringly.
Luca have a half smile, before going back and cuddling up to Alberto. They sat in some empty before the heard a single light pitter-patter. And again. And again. Soon it was pouring with rain, water braking in through the leaky roof, making small puddles.
"You have go to be kidding me! It was s-sunny 2 hours ago!" Giulia said, her teeth chattering. Though Luca and Alberto could get cold, the damp couldn't make them ill, they'd simply just go through the change. Giulia, on the other hand, could get ill, so the boys searched about in the many trunks for some blankets. Luca eventually found some, slightly old and matter; but they would do. They all got under the blankets, slightly warmer than before.
They sat in silence for a while, just listening to the rain. Alberto started humming a tune, which Luca didn't recognise until he started singing quietly.
"La strade piene, la folla intorno a me" he mumbled
"Mi parla e ride, e nulla sa di te" Luca sang quietly
"lo vedo intorno a me chi passe e va, ma so le che la città" they all sang.
"Vuota mi sembrerà, se non torni tu"
"C'è chi o-og- I don't remeber the rest" Luca a laughed lightly.
"Neither do I." Alberto chuckled.
"...How long do you think it'll be like.. this?" Giulia asked after a minute.
"Who knows" Alberto replied "..But I- I kind of feel..responsible" he said quietly "for what's happening."
Luca turned to face him, almost feeling angry. "Are you shitting me? Silenzio Bruno! How on earth could you ever be responsible for this, caro?"
"..I don't know, it's just- I was the one that brought us here, which brought more sea folk here, which is why the Pellegrini's are here." he said, his voice cracking.
Luca jumped on him, hugging him "None more of this was never and will never be your fault, amore mio. If anything, you helped Carollina and Portorosso, showing that sea folk and humans alike aren't dangerous."
Alberto smiled, blush fainting his cheeks "Thank you, amore. I- needed to hear that."
Suddenly, there heard the door open.
"P-papà?" Giulia called out.
"You can come down now, children." Massimo's voice was grave.
They all rushed down, trilling over each other.
"What'a happened?" Giulia said breathlessly.Massimo was soaked from the harsh weathe "There is more Pellegrini men. Polizia are warding them off, but I that will last more than a few days. We're.. we're not sure what we're going to do, but tomorrow many residents are meeting j the town hall to make some sort of plan."
"Can we help?" Giulia asked.
"Unfortunately, Luca and Alberto, you can't help. As much as I'd like you to, it's too risky. Giulietta, you can help, but I'd rather you stay here most do the time. Everyone knows you are close with Luca and Alberto, and right now...they're prime targets."
Luca felt like he'd been winded. This was all getting too real, too fast. And all they could do was..wait.
"Can we go out..at all?" Alberto asked quietly.
"Yes, for things like drogheria, but you must keep a low profile. We can't afford to lose you." Massimo replied.
"..Right." Luca said, staring at the wall "Have you heard anything of my parents?"
"Oh yes, I made sure to ask after Daniela and Lorenzo, and I can assure they are safe."
Luca breathed out a sigh of relief.
"So all we can do it sit here?" Alberto said.
"Unfortunately..more or less, yes. But we are trying our hardest to ward the away, I promise you." Massimo said as cheerily as he could.
"What are they even doing with the sea folk?" Giulia asked, slightly exasperated.
"I think.. they're enslaving us. Selling us." Luca said, his voice choked up in horror.
"..And you'd be right." Massimo said sadly "Someone overheard some men discussing where they'd send them."
Luca felt like passing out, and he was sure Alberto felt them same.
All they could do..
..was wait.
