Chapter 27- Genova?

A/N- This chapter's important to the plot and it doesn't really have any angst so if you're looking for fluff and happy chapters this ones for you 😩💞

Giulia POV

It had been 3 days since the scare in the forest. Though nothing had happened since, the three were wary and had contacted Mr Aldegehri. He had gone out with them, armed with his shotgun to look for sireno hunters. The name alone made Giulia grimace. It was such a disgusting career. But they found nothing, which eased Giulia and Alberto, but Giulia could tell Luca was still very concerned. He was.. distant. Every time the other two spoke to him, they had to snap him out of a daydream.

It was now nightfall, and the three were talking about Portorosso. Surprisingly, it comforted the three to talk about it. They could lose themselves in the sunny, carefree days again. Alberto always seemed to stiffen up slightly when they mentioned Massimo, though. Giulia tried not to.

"But it was stuck to him, I swear! He had a sardine tail for a whole day." Alberto exclaimed.

Giulia and Luca chuckled. "I wish we could've visited more often.. like, every month or something? Then we could've caught up with each other and actually have seen each others faces." Luca remarked.

"We should totally take you to Genova one day, Alberto." Giulia said, sighing.

"I mean someday, why not?" Alberto replied. They sat in silence for a bit. Giulia mused the idea in her head.

"Wait," Alberto said looking up.

"What?" Luca asked.

"Like actually, why not? We aren't in Portorosso anymore! Why not? No one'll know!"

"Maybe because we only have €150 in cash now?" Giulia snorted.

"..So what? We could stay with your mom! She wouldn't make us pay, right? And we could get jobs in Genova." Alberto said, jumping up.

Somehow, the idea hadn't occurred to Giulia ever, or the other two, come to think of it. He was right. Her mom wouldn't make them pay rent, it wasn't too far from Saloreni, and they wouldn't have to live in a dingy log cabin anymore!

"You're.. right. How the hell have we not talked about this before?!..I say we do it!"

Me too!" Luca said, who was now jumping up and down, looking more joyful than he had in weeks.

Alberto and Luca jumped up and down in a circle, chanting. "We're going to Genova! We're going to Genova!!". Giulia smiled at the sight of them. She loved these boys dearly, as they did her. She looked out the window, lost in thought. Luca and Alberto, they were made for each other, and though she never said it, Giulia hoped that one day, she'd find a love like the both of them did.

When she looked back, they were kissing,, but it looked more.. meaningful than than most couples kisses. Like this was the last kiss they would ever share. Like the world was closing in on them, and this was their last moments together. That sort of passion. She felt a sudden pang of jealousy. She ignored it, heading upstairs.

She decided to get into her pyjamas before coming back downstairs to discuss the hypothetical Genova trip. If this plan was to work, they'd have to:

1) Notify Mr Aldegehri
2) Be absolutely sure that no one knew where they were headed
3) Be able to afford the train tickets
4) Pack up the entire cabin

She wrote these all down on piece of paper and took it downstairs with her.

By now, 'Luberto' (as she had nicknamed them 2 years ago, much to Luca's embarrassment) were sitting next to each other on the small rug. Giulia joined them, a cup of herbal tea in her hand.

"So, if we're heading to Genova, we gotta complete everything on this list." Giulia said to both of them, handing Luca the list.

"I mean- it all seems easy enough..?" Luca said, scratching his head.

"I don't think we can be completely sure about the second one.. but I think Genova would be a better place to stay overall." She explained, sipping her tea.

"Well... is it agreed then? Are we actually going?" Alberto asked, looking like a giddy child.

"I- I don't see why not ?" Luca said, looking at Giulia for agreement, to which she nodded her head.

They all squealed, Luca and Giulia telling Alberto all the things he should know about Genova, before deciding that they would go to Mr Aldegehri's in the morning and start packing once he knew.

It was about 11pm by now, and they were all nodding off slightly. Luca put his head on Alberto shoulder, yawning.

"But y'know, Beto.. in Genova, only my class and Maria* knew that I was a sireno. I knew that most people probably wouldn't accept me so.. I guess what I'm try to say is, it's best not to show your sea monster form, especially in the city centre." Luca said quietly.

Alberto nodded. "I understand. But hey, at least we'll be near the sea."

Giulia smiled "There's a little bay not far from home that Luca would visit every so often." Giulia recalled. "Though you'd always say it didn't feel the same, not like Portorosso. Probably because your boyfriend wasn't there~" She smirked, looking at Luca, who was blushing profusely.

Alberto looked at him, touched. "Is that true?"

"I-I mean... kinda.." Luca muttered, covering his face with his hands. Alberto grinned ear to ear and kissed Luca on the head.

The trio continued to daze in front of the fire for a good half hour, before all making there way up to bed.

Giulia couldn't get to sleep for a while. She wasn't bothered though. She was just so excited to see her mama. She hadn't seen her in 5 months. Though she cherished her relationship with her father, she had an extremely close bond with her mother. And with Luca, they sort of became a little family. And she loved that. And she couldnt wait for Alberto to a part of it too. Even though her father wouldn't be, it was the same situation for her mother when she was in Portorosso. She has accepted that all the way back when she was 8, though. It wasn't anything knew to her. Anyway, she was just looking forward to being somewhere familiar.

She sighed happily as she turned over, finally falling to sleep.

*Maria is Giulia's mom's name
