4. Heartbreak

Mitsuri's POV

Oh my gosh! Why did I say that! I hope she feels the same way...

"Oh! Um... I, um, sorta have feelings for someone else at the moment," those words hit me like a cannonball. Idiot, idiot, idiot! Of course, she has eyes on someone else! I shouldn't have confessed so early!

"But I could take you out for a meal sometime? Or boba?" Shinobu asked in a sorrowful tone.

"N-no I'm ok. I'll just go to my room. You can help yourself to pancakes in the fridge. You can also bring some home to your sisters." I could feel tears forming in my eyes as she said that. I kept my head even lower than before. I walked up to my room, and as soon as I got in, I started to cry. What else would she have said? 'Oh, yes! I would definitely date a girl I met a day ago!' She probably hates me now... Just as I finished that thought, I heard a knock on my bedroom door.

"I'll be going now. Take care, Mitsuri-san." Her voice was a mix of calm, sweet, and sad. Maybe she was as upset about this as I was. Expect she would also feel pitiful towards me. She would feel pitiful that I'm crying because of her. Not like she would give a shit if I was sad about this. We aren't even the closest of friends. I bet she probably likes that Ume girl. I've been crying for about 30 minutes, so I was kinda hungry now. I wiped my tears and, as I opened my bedroom door to get a snack, I saw a note.

I'm sorry, Mitsuri-san. I really do think you're a great person. It makes me feel sad to see you heartbroken. And you, probably are.  You're one of my only friends, and I would hate to lose you, so I hope this doesn't break our friendship as well.

These words broke my heart even more, and I started to cry even harder. I love you so much, Shinobu-chan. I don't think we can still be friends, as long as I still have feelings for you... I quickly got a small meal and then went to use my phone in bed. I went onto Instagram and browsed a bit until something caught my eye. It was Shinobu and a girl that was taller than her. Her hair faded white to light green. Posted 30 minutes ago, I read. That's about when Shinobu left. She must be hanging out with Ume right now.  I sighed. I knew that Shinobu wouldn't like me back, but there was this whisper, a small voice that told me to confess.

Timeskip to Monday morning

I woke up with my eyes red. Great... now it's obvious that I was crying last night. As I got out of bed, I started to rub my eyes. Ow. It stings to rub them. I guess I'll just get ready, then. For my outfit, I put on a baggy navy blue sweater, bell-bottom jeans, and a messy bun. My outfit wasn't the best, but it worked. I finished up by doing my daily makeup routine, so now I was ready for school. I toasted a bagel, grabbed my school bag and purse, and got into my car to go to school. I sighed. Time to face school and all its troubles.

As soon as I got to school, I went straight to Social Studies, and not my locker, because I had a feeling that Shinobu would want to talk to me about yesterday. Shortly after I took a seat, Shinobu came in. She waved at me, but I pretended not to notice. I couldn't see her outfit very clearly, but I'm pretty sure that she wore a vertically striped button-down sleeveless shirt, black tie, and black slacks with a belt. God, she's adorable, I thought until I caught myself. No! You mustn't have a crush on her! You'll end up getting hurt again! I kept trying to persuade myself that I didn't have a crush on Shinobu, but I just couldn't.  Social Studies went by very quickly, but I wasn't really paying any attention. The bell rang and I was out of my seat going straight to the next class.  I was trying to walk fast until I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked down and it was Shinobu.
