So my name is Tsukishima Kei. I am a veterinarian. I specialize in reptiles. I have always loved reptiles. They remind me of my childhood best friend, his name is Yamaguchi Tadashi, well I used to call him Ashi but never around others, around others I would always just call him Tadashi. I had told him that he could call me by my first name but he said that he liked the nickname that he gave me. I did too but I would never admit that. Not back then at least. I would more than likely admit it to him now if he even remembered me. We didn't slowly drift apart or anything, you see he got into a car wreck five days before summer began. Because of this car wreck he lost his memory and his father. His father died in the crash and this affected Ashi's mom a lot. Ashi's mom couldn't handle everything that our little town of karasuno reminded her of so she moved away to a neighboring town. Honestly I am glad she did it made the pain of not just losing my best friend but knowing that he was still alive but didn't remember me. That is what hurt the most and still does hurt.
After a while I got tired of sitting around and not doing anything to try and get my best friend back. So I asked around to see if anyone knew where he worked or where he was now. When I found out that he was working at the zoo that was in town I got really happy. Back in high school, and middle school, I had been in love with Ashi and honestly I still am. One day I went to the zoo and looked around the entire zoo to try and find Ashi but I couldn't find him. Until I went to the reptile kingdom and looked around. I saw that there was a group of people being given a tour around the reptile kingdom. I looked to see who was giving the tour and saw none other than my Ashi. I just sat there a minute and stared in disbelief. Ever since that day I have been going to the zoo every friday after work.
Every friday I would go to the zoo and walk around the reptile kingdom going through the same motions that we used to when we were kids hoping that it would help him remember. Although it hadn't seemed to be working. So one day I talked to Sugawara, the old vice captain of the old volleyball team, on what I should do and he suggested booking a one on one tour with him and so I asked him if he could get me one for the following Friday and of course he did exactly that. That following Friday I went to the zoo like I always did. I went to the reptile kingdom right before my tour would begin and watched as Ashi finished up with his last group tour of the day. It was really breathtaking to watch him speak so passionately about the reptiles. He seemed tired and I had noticed that he still picked at the hem of his shirt whenever he got nervous or excited. God why was he so cute!?
After he finished up with the tour he was currently giving It was finally time for my tour. Let's see how this goes. I haven't talked to him until now. I hope this goes well. He immediately welcomed me as if he was on autopilot.
"Hello and welcome to the Karasuno Zoo's Reptile Kingdom! I am Yamaguchi Tadashi and I will be your tour guide for the day!" He finally realized that it was me and he said. "I swear I know you from somewhere but I can't remember where." he said as if his mouth had moved without his permission he quickly covered his mouth when he realized what he said.
I responded with "I'm not surprised that you don't remember. I mean after what happened I can't really blame you." just remembering the fact that he doesn't remember me made me sad. I missed him so much but he wouldn't be able to know that.
"What do you mean by that?" He asked, tilting his head to the side. God he was so cute! Do I tell him the truth? Do I try to play it off? What should I do? Before I could think of anything two people walked in the door. Asahi and Daichi were there to get Suga for something, well until they saw me that is. How do I know this? Well because Daichi had said.
"Hey Yama, we are here to get Suga. Oh Tsukishima, I haven't seen you in forever! How have you been?"
"Hey Dadchi." I tried to play it off naturally by making an old inside joke from the volleyball team.
"I am never going to live down that nickname am I?" He asked.
"At least it is better than being called 'Deadchi'." Asahi had said.
"I guess you're right." Diachi agreed. "On the topic of high school. Do you remember when we won nationals?"
"Or when Yams yelled at Tsukishima to put his heart in the game?" Asahi added.
"Wait!" Ashi said. Everyone then looked at him. He looked at me. "Tsuki!" Wait! Did he remember me? "I-" His voice trailed off. He then took a deep breath as tears started welling up in his eyes. "I think I remember." He said.
"Ashi?" I asked to make sure he remembered. Tears started running down his face. I pulled him in for a hug. "You remember!" I started crying as well. Damn I have missed him. Suga then walked out from the back.
"Hey guys what's-" He froze for a second after he saw that I was crying and I was holding Ashi. "What happened?" He asked, hurrying over to all of us. I hadn't noticed but Daichi and Asahi had also started crying.
"He remembered!" Daichi said.
"Really?" Suga asked as tears welled up in his eyes.
"Yeah! I remember everything." Ashi said, pulling away from me just enough to look at Suga. "Hey sugamama!" He said. That was yet another inside joke.
"Holy shit!" Suga said, crying now. "My baby got his memory back!" Suga said, as tears continued to run down all of our faces.
"I think I need to take off early." Ashi said. "Me and Tsuki have a lot of catching up to do." He said looking at Suga. Suga was his boss so he was the one that made the decisions on if he got time off or not.
"Of course you can have the rest of the day off. I will call someone to cover your show, go ahead and clock out and get changed." Suga said as he wiped his tears away and grabbed his phone out of his pocket. Suga started making a few calls. I was still crying a lot and so was Tadashi. I hate seeing him cry.
"I am going to clock out and get changed now tsuki I will be back in a moment, and then we can go for a walk and talk." He said as one more tear went down his face.
"Okay I will be here." What I wanted to say is 'I will never leave you alone again.' but of course I would never say that outloud. Not yet at least. Soon I will tell him everything there is no holding back now. He finally remembers everything, something I have dreamed about for years, he finally remembers me. I can't wait to answer all of his questions and give him in-depth answers. I soon stopped crying as my body wouldn't let me cry any more.
Tadashi walked out of the backroom and into the room where everyone was still stuck in place too shocked to move. "I am ready." He said he had a small sad smile on his face. He was wearing a black turtleneck with a grey blazer and dark grey dress pants. He looked stunning, but the sad smile that he was wearing just wouldn't do. So to lift up his spirits I told him what I thought of his outfit.
"You look stunning!" I said, giving him a small smile. The same smile I only ever gave him.
