What made Junkyu so cold when his ex, Park Jeongwoo, texted him in the middle of the night?

"I will never let go of your hand."

That day was a special day for Kim Junkyu. On this day a year ago, he found someone who made him sink into the happiness of love.

That was the one-year anniversary of him and his lover.

Since he took advantage of the overtime the day before, Junkyu was on leave that day. Taking advantage to kiss each other before Jeongwoo left for work, Junkyu also hurriedly changed into an outfit that seemed good and quickly left the house.

He wanted to give his lover a surprise gift.

Jeongwoo usually did not pay attention to the date, sometimes he doesn't even know what day it was that day. He only remembered the day he had to meet his partner, the day he had to sign the contract, and days like birthday, even his own birthday, he could never remember. So Junkyu thought his surprise plan would work perfectly.

That was a bold decision of Junkyu. With his clumsy power that he could break anything he touched, Junkyu could not choose any form of giving gifts without the risk of breaking things. Finally, with the help of his best friend and his best friend's Japanese lover who was very good at cooking, Junkyu decided to cook a special meal to greet Jeongwoo when he got home from work.

With the refrigerator of someone who only ordered fried chicken to handle dinner, Junkyu needed to go to the supermarket once to buy ingredients for his gift.

After half a day wandering around in the supermarket, Junkyu harvested quite a bit of spoil. The only problem left, also the biggest problem, was that he had not eaten since morning. Usually, Junkyu got up and went to work at 9 am, then ate something at the company cafeteria during his lunch break. It was not meant to be economic, it was just that he got up so late that it was not until noon did he start to feel hungry. So he would often combine breakfast and lunch into one meal.

Carrying large and small bags on his arm, Junkyu stopped at a small roadside tteokbokki shop, ordered a portion to eat quickly, and quickly went home.

After going through a month of training with countless pots and pans damaged by him, Junkyu was able to cook certain dishes. Steak, red apple strawberry shrimp salad, and a yin-yang hot pot were all Junkyu could do. Other than these, even just frying an egg he could not make it out.

Having worked hard in the kitchen all afternoon, Junkyu could finally breathe a sigh of relief seeing his finished product neatly shown on the table. But there still seemed to be something missing.

Looking around, Junkyu finally realized that he forgot to buy candles and roses for decoration. After all, he had to go to the supermarket again.

After carefully smelling each box of scented candles and selecting fresh flowers, Junkyu returned with a bag full of romance. He was sure he had not forgotten anything this time.

While walking home, Junkyu suddenly saw two familiar figures standing on the other side of the street not far away. And almost immediately he recognized who they were. How could he not recognize them, when one of them was the one he had been working so hard to prepare a surprise gift for, and the other was the one he had been acting as a substitute for that person.

His lover, Park Jeongwoo. And his ex, a Japanese boy that Junkyu never wanted to remember his name.

He saw them walk hand in hand, head to head, wobbling into the place in front of them. Junkyu was not surprised when he lifted his gaze and saw that the place they were entering was a luxury hotel building. Well, meeting their ex-lovers who they still had feelings for in such a drunken state, if they did not go to a hotel then it would be a strange thing.

Junkyu pulled his phone from the pocket of his white hoodie, and with trembling hands, he dialed a number he had memorized by heart. When he was only one step away from being able to stop that other person, he did not have the courage. He was afraid this call would go unanswered. He was afraid to see the disgusted look on the other's face when he saw the caller's name.

He was afraid to see everything fall to pieces right in front of his eyes.

"Where are you now?" Junkyu tried to calm himself, typed a text, and sent it.

Answer me, where are you?

Junkyu heard his heart tremble uncontrollably in his chest. He prayed that Jeongwoo would not respond, but also prayed that he would answer him quickly. Compared to receiving silence from him, Junkyu would rather accept the painful truth that was waiting for him.

In the distance, Junkyu saw him go silent as if his whole body became stiff. He saw the look of repentance on his face. Those eyes that used to sparkle when reading his messages, now only looked awkward and guilty.

"I am at the company handling the work. Just have dinner first, don't wait for me. I'll be back late."

Compared to the gift Junkyu prepared for him, the gift he received was even more unexpected.

"Okay, I got it. Don't come back too late."

Junkyu smiled. He is just working overtime.

Junkyu took out the cigarette packet he did not know why he bought at the supermarket. He turned the lighter on and lit his cigarette. It had been a long time since he last smoked. Because Jeongwoo did not like the smell of it. And he said it was not good for their health. Junkyu never wanted to upset him, so he stopped smoking ever since he was together with Jeongwoo. Now looking at the packet in his palm, Junkyu felt so strange. He thought about how much he had changed because of Jeongwoo, about how he had been so dependent on Jeongwoo. He gave up everything to be with Jeongwoo, just to be given up by Jeongwoo for him to be with his ex.

The cold night wind kept hitting his face. Only then did he realize that he was crying.

Through a hazy smoke, with a smile lingering on his lips, he cried.

Little did Jeongwoo know, on that night, there was someone quietly standing there watching him change.

You lied to me.
