Hi guys!
I think before I get on with the story I should probably explain one thing. If some of you didn't know, the game Spotto is a game where children usually try to spot a yellow car. It's a side topic in the story but I'm not sure if it would make sense if you didn't know what the game was.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it!
(XxØverkillxX: tell me what you think of it?)His mullet now touched the nape of his neck, brushing it gently with every turn of his head. Tanaka Momonosuke had thought about changing his hairstyle for a while, but maybe he should for a while more, when the holidays came. He didn't want more people teasing him about anything else. The only person who'd been supportive of his mullet was now dead anyway, it didn't matter if he cut it off. Maybe his older brother's bald head was the best option.
Momonosuke was in his sister's car, trying to contain his breakfast in his stomach as Tanaka Saeko gleefully drove the car down the street like a maniac. It was hard to catch sight of it, but Momonosuke eyes had become used to spotting yellow cars. But he didn't want to anymore. It only reminded him of his dead brother. Tanaka Kyosuke. Spotto champion.
"S-s-spott-to," Momonosuke said quietly into the scarf that wrapped around his neck and half of his face.
"Did you say something?" Saeko asked from the driver's seat. "I can't hear you well over the music!" Indeed, Saeko's usual pop rock tunes were blasting in the car, making it difficult for them to communicate. Not that Momonosuke wanted to communicate.
"N-noth-thing," he replied, blinking away the tears that had gathered when he'd seen the yellow car.
"Well! You're at school! Hop off! I need to get to my drum practice! See ya Momo!" Saeko shouted over the music, grinning at her little brother and urging him to get out of the car. The second Momonosuke turned away and opened the car door, the music flooded out of the car, causing students to glance his way. Great. Unwanted attention to him. Like he didn't already have enough.
With his head down and half of his face covered by his scarf, Momonosuke skulked towards his clasroom quietly. Whispers could be heard behind him, but Momonosuke ignored it. He could deal with it later if it came to it, but today, he intended to have a quiet day.
"TANAKA-KUN!" a high voice shouted to him. Momonosuke realised his doom and walked faster. If he didn't lose the person, his quiet day would be ruined.
"Tanaka-kun! Wait!" Hinata's voice suddenly caught up to him and Momonosuke was forced to turn around and face his bright, cheery face. It was so different compared to his own.
"H-h-hin-nata," Momonosuke greeted quietly, sighing inwardly.
Hinata's grin widened and his ginger hair bounced. "Tanaka-kun! Are you watching practice today? It would be really good if you could! See, I learnt this new attack and it's really cool. I wanna show it to you, can I?"
Momonosuke looked away, playing with the hem of his shirt. "Ah. M-m-maybe." Finally, the bell rang, saving him from more conversation. He gladly took it as an excuse to escape as he blended in into the sea of people. He navigated through the building until he finally found his class.
The teacher looked unfamiliar, Momonosuke realised as he took his usual seat at the back of the classroom. But it didn't matter. Momonosuke's seat was at the back of the room, next to the wall. It was as secluded as it could get, and he wanted it that way. People didn't have to bother him then.
When everyone had arrived, the teacher grinned at them. "Right. Good morning class! Today, I will be your teacher but before we get started, I would like everyone to introduce themselves and say one interesting fact about themselves." Murmurs rippled around the class in amusement. They hadn't done anything like this since grade school but it was a breather from the daily morning routine.
When it came to Momonosuke's turn, he stood up like he had been told to, and gulped. His body shook and his red face became a hot fiery colour that only made him stood out more than the others. Everyone else was so normal, then there was him. "H-hi. M-m-my n-name's T-t-tan-na-ka.." In front of everyone and in the spotlight, his stuttering intensified and his voice faded away into nothing.
Somewhere from outside, a voice came. "His name is Tanaka Momonosuke. Excuse him." The teacher's eyebrows raised and she poked a head outside. But there was no source of the voice. As Momonosuke sat down, he felt relief sink into him but something nagged at him.
"Right... Don't know where that voice came from, but thank you Tanaka-kun," the teacher nodded uncertainly. The class continued with their introductions, and later, they continued with their work. But the entire time, Momonosuke couldn't help but feel embarrassed. He was nearly fifteen and yet, he still couldn't introduce himself without others helping him.
'Pathetic,' he thought to himself.
^v^
Momonosuke found himself wandering to the gym at the end of school, drawn to the voices of the volleyball club boys whom he knew so well but have never spoken to. He didn't particularly want to embarrass his brother even more.
That afternoon, he slipped to the gym and sat down next to the benches as he took out his drawing book. Momonosuke started to sketch the players, the court, the ball, the uniforms without anyone knowing. The only person who noticed his arrival was Kiyoko, but she didn't say anything. He came every now and then and they sat near each other, not causing a fuss about anything at all. They had a silent relationship, she and he.
Finally, when the boys were done, Nishinoya recognised him. "Eh? Momo-kun?! Tanaka! It's your brother!" Nishinoya called to Tanaka when he noticed the boy sitting near the bench. He glanced over at Momonosuke's notebook. "Hey! That's a pretty good drawing! I feel so proud of myself! Look, can you see me over there with that super cool digging position. Dang, Momo-kun you're pretty good."
"OH! Mo-chan!" Tanaka Ryunosuke's eyes lit up when he saw his brother. He reached in for a hug but stopped when his brother's cold stare landed on him.
"L-l-lat-ter," Momonosuke muttered as he stood up and walked out of the gym. Ryunosuke nodded and let him go. He knew what his brother meant; they would talk later when there weren't anyone around. It wasn't long before Ryunosuke was finally out of the gym and walking home with his brother. The silence became awkward between them until Momonosuke finally spoke up.
"I kn-now w-what y-y-you did to-d-day," Momonosuke said, "Y-You didn't h-ha-have to h-help m-me with th-that te-teacher like th-th-that." The voice that morning couldn't have been anyone but his brother. He'd known it was his voice immediately.
Ryunosuke shrugged. "You've been avoiding me lately. What's wrong with you? And your stuttering is getting worse. I thought the therapy was helping." There was another second of quietness. "Is it because of Nii-san? Avoiding me and his funeral doesn't help, Mo-chan." His stern voice made Momonosuke understand, but he wasn't ready to admit it.
Suddenly, Momonosuke froze and watched. The yellow car flew past him, yet its colour left a burning image in his mind. "Spotto," he whispered.
Ryunosuke nodded sadly. Mo-chan used to do this with his brother everyday, and the yellow cars would only make it hurt more. He understood. "You can't avoid all this forever. Nii-san would want you to get better."
Momonosuke nodded sadly and smiled. "I'll try."
Next to him, Ryunosuke smiled. Maybe this confrontation had been long overdue between him and his brother.
Hi! So this is the second Tanaka Ryunosuke chapter but with a different sibling and different scenario. Sorry if it's a bit lacking. I guess I kinda rushed it but the same amount of thought has been put into this chapter too, don't worry. What did you think of it? Obviously, you can now suggest scenarios with characters I've already done. I will either create a whole different story in another world or just add on to the family I already have. Also, did anyone else recognise the name Momonosuke?! It's a character from One Piece, my absolute favourite anime!!! I know One Piece is known for its extreme length (1001 EPs at the moment and more soon) but it's worth the effort to watch and One Piece is absolutely amazing. I could go on and on and on about how great it is. Anyway, thanks for reading this chapter!! XD
