With a sigh, I kept my laptop aside and rubbed my eyes. It's been hell of a time here at the cabin. Apart from the decent amount of stories we heard about the village being cursed and all, we didn't let it hinder our fun here. We came back yesterday from the village and found little Sarah watching some kind of series on Netflix about witches and whatnot. And then today we had decided to check out the waterfall Mia was talking about since three days. I wouldn't admit it to her but it really was the most...decent place I had ever seen. It was very relaxing having to just float around in the water for a while. The water was just so clear and blue that you could literally see your image in it as if you're looking into a mirror, all together the perfect place to relax.
But as much as I wanted to relax, the company kept sending me emails all day. A sudden assignment had come up and the boss asked me especially to write up a contract for the new partnership for a new app. That's why I was up right now, completely exhausted at 2 a.m at night working my ass off so that I can send the email having the contract, first thing in the morning.
Beside me, my phone lit up showing me a notification that I had a text. I picked it up and unlocked it, going into my messages, I saw that Viv texted me. I tapped on her name and read the message:
Fiancee😉❤: Hey boo! You up?
I chuckled at the stupid nickname. She really liked to rile me up.
Me: Yeah, some assignment came up. You're up late?
I kept the phone aside waiting for her text. Saving up the almost finished document, I turned off the laptop and picked up my phone again. She hadn't replied back yet so I decided to go have some coffee or something. If I want to complete the contract tonight, I had to have some caffeine in my system to keep me awake.
Unlatching my door, I went down the stairs and turned left into the archway to the kitchen. I opened up the top shelf, took out the jar of coffee beans and began brewing some.
Thud!
I looked up but didn't see anyone. I turned down the flame a bit and leaving the coffee jar brewing on the stove, I walked out of the kitchen and looked around. But there was no one who would have made that sound.
"Is anyone here?"
No one spoke back. I was personally relieved a little when nobody answered because the only thing I have learnt after watching hundreds of horror movies was that no good things happen if you ask that question at night and something invisible answers back.
I began to turn around to go back to continue making my coffee, but then it happened again. I followed the sound and took some steps forward when I saw it- the source of the sound.
At the bottom of the stairs which went down to the basement, I assume, was standing Sarah looking at the wall blankly. I frowned. What the hell was she doing here?
Then as soon as I began walking towards her, she banged her head hard on wall. Thud!
Oh so that's where the sound was coming from!
I ran towards her before she could do it again and flattened my palm against her forehead as a cushion. I looked at her from the left and she had her eyes closed breathing slowly, as if she wasn't even aware of what she was doing. I called her name a few times but it was like she was having an out of body experience, or maybe she was having a dream or something.
I held her shoulders and shook her, trying to wake her up from whatever trance she was in right now. When she still didn't wake up, I crouched a little and put an arm behind her legs, the other one behind her shoulders and picked her up. She slept soundly all the way to her bedroom, I was shocked when she didn't wake up even when I was picking her up.
