"Vine!" Forrest ran up to her, a purr rising in his chest. "Forrest!" Vine grinned, before setting down a rabbit carcass she had found whilst scavenging. The rabbit was in no way fresh- she had battled flies whilst coming back. But, her brother did not care, to them, this was the best food in ages. Vine ached to eat the rabbit too, but her brother needed food more then her, even though their ribs both could be seen through their chest. When her brother finished eating, she unsheathed her claws. She started to unearth the soil, then picked up the remains of the rabbit and buried it. She sheathed her claws, then kicked the soil back into place. "Come, we have to find shelter before its dark." Vine said, casting a worried glance at the sky. "Okay!" her brother smiled, completely oblivious of the hardships that night would bring to them.

Vine and Forrest had been trekking through the forest for a while, and still hadn't found the shelter they seeked. The sun was lowering, slowly, as if teasing them. "Im tired!" Forrest said, he rarely complained, which meant that he was very exhausted. "Don't worry.. We'll find shelter soon." Vine reassured her brother, although not believing what she said herself. Only a few moments later, Forrest piped up, "Hey look at that!" Vine looked around, then spotted a cave. She grinned, "Good find brother." Vine then guided her brother into the cave just as the moon started to rise. She laid down, curling her tail around her brothers small body. Just when she was about to rest her head on her paws, her nose twitched as an overwhelming smell filled the cave. Vine tried to ignore its existence, after all, she and her brother had been walking forever and had just settled down. They weren't about to get back up again just to find a different shelter all because of a smell, so Vine bared it, not complaining. However, what confused her, is that the smell kept getting stronger, untill it was right behind her. Drool dripped on the caves floor just in front of her paws, and she slowly turned her head.

A bear was standing right there, eyes narrowed with malice, yet jaws dripping with drool, indicating it was ready to have a meal, a meal of them. Vine let out a screech, and her brother jumped up, eyes flickering around the cave. He noticed the bear, and screeched too. "RUN!" Vine said in a desperate yowl. The two ran out the den, narrowly missing the deadly swipe of the bears paw. The twos paws pounded on the ground, prone to falling and tripping as the bear pounded after them, shaking the earth beneath them. It was clear they couldn't run now, they had to fight. Vine skidded to a stop, turning. Forrest followed her moves, turning around and baring his teeth. The bear stopped, rearing on its hind legs. The bear slowly was going to land back on its paws and slash at them- heavily injuring them. "Out of the way!" She yowled quickly, jumping back. Forrest froze for a moment, before seeming to come back to his senses and jumping back just in time. The bear let out a roar in anger. It glared at Forrest - he was the closest - and without warning, rammed into him. Forrest screamed in pain, and then fell on the ground, bruises all over his body. "BROTHER!" Vine screamed, she ran forward, but was quickly blocked by the bear swinging its head into her, and ramming her into a nearby tree. Vine yowled, tears streaming down her face. Her vision was blurred by the tears, but she could see the bear close its jaws on Forrests body, then launch him in the air. Vine looked away, hearing a thud and sickening snap. The bear gave one last roar, before lumbering off into the distance. She slowly, slowly got up and padded over to look at Forrest's now corpse. His eyes were open and staring at the dark and dreary night sky. Blood poured out of his stomach, and Vine almost barfed. His jaws were agape, and his teeth were cracked and bloody. Vine let out a moan and collapsed onto her brothers corpse, hiccuping.
