Chapter 18

"Up we go," the Sergeant says, and takes out a silver key from around his neck. He fits the key into a tiny hole and twists it. The elevator begins its slow, rocking descent.
Time for the math. My speedometer lets me know that the elevator is going approximately 5 mph. If I can count how long this elevator ride takes, I can see the average speed of the elevator, which will let me know the---
"I see those gears turning in your head, girl," the Sergeant stares at me, concerned. The guards stiffen. "What are you thinking about in that robot brain of yours?" I grin and glance at Jack. He nods back. I turn back to the Sergeant to see his utterly confused face.
"Oh, you know, the usual." His genuine unease on his face makes me suppress a laugh. "Like...?" He says uncertainly. "This," I say, and my metal fist collides with his jaw. "OWWWWWW!" He howls, and motions for the guards to help him. Jack lunges at the other guard, dodging punches and kicks with lightning reflexes. In an instant, Jack pins down the struggling guard, and renders him unconscious. I turn back to the Sergeant; he presses himself up against the corner of the elevator, holding his jaw. I step closer to him, and he shrinks farther into the corner. "That's right, Sergeant Chapman. But if I were you," Jack passes me his gun, and I knock the butt of it into the Sergeant's head. He crumples to the floor. "I would watch your step."

Hey guys! This is actually (I think) the second to last chapter! Don't worry. Don't freak out. Seriously. I have a feeling that this will actually become a trilogy!! I know. Exciting. But before this story draws to an end, I'd just like to thank all of my supporters. You guys are totally the best! I'm shocked as to how far I've gotten with this story. Thanks so much!
