Mirabels POV

It had been a few years since Abuela passed away. We all missed her, but we'd come to except it.

Dolores and Mariano were now married and planning to have kids! We still helped a lot in town, but it wasn't so much of a priority, or pressure anymore. We were still honoring the miracle- of course- but it was more honoring Abuela and Abuelo now. The candle was strong, as was the miracle, and life was good.

It was cleaning day when it happened.

We were all going around cleaning things, gathering things to give away, stuff like that. I was walking to the kitchen to get some water.

"Hey Mija." Papa had just come back from town, dropping of some boxes of stuff we were getting rid of.

"Hola, Papi! What's up?"

"Um- Julietta just said that there's some stuff in Abuelas room that we need to move, and everyone was either busy, or not able to go in there after..." He looked down solemnly, and I got what he was asking me.

"It's okay, I can get it." He nodded and forced a small smile.

"She said there was a box of stuff in there Abuela was getting ready to throw out before she died." I nodded and walked past him.

It was going to be painful going in there, but someone had to break the invisible barrier that surrounded her door, and if no one else could...

I climbed the stairs and walked through the halls. I ran my hands along the railing until I hit a flower and smiled. It was a white poppy. White poppy's symbolize calmness and serenity. It seemed kind of out of place next to the other flowers. I guess you could say Isa blossomed into her true self, always covering the house in colorful flowers and cacti.

The white flower looked strange surrounded by the bright colors. But it seemed bright in its own way. It was a very bright white, clean. It almost sparkled in the sun.

I chuckled at the small metaphor and moved on.

Finally, I got to Abuelas room. The glowing door went dark when she died. I stood for a second, before- odly enough- the floor boards nudged my foot, urging me to go into the room. This was weird, why did the Casita want me to go in so bad?

Reaching for the door knob, I didn't notice at the time, but everything went quiet. Any sound that was previously there was gone. Like it was only me and the house. Me and the door.

My fingers touched and then gripped the door knob. But before I could turn it, gold filled my eyes. A golden glow had covered the door. Surprised, I stepped back, hitting the railing. It was changing!

The pattern and glow on the door was morphing. What was going on?! The brightness hurt my eyes, and I covered them slightly with my arm. Eventually, the brightness ceased, and revealed the door again. I covered my mouth as tears clouded my eyes.

It was... me... the carving in the door turned into me! I was holding the candle the same way she was. Abuela... she said I was the new watcher over the candle... is this what she meant? Is this why I didn't get a gift? I had so many questions, but those didn't matter right now.

"Dad!!!" I yelled. A smile spread on my face as I started happy crying. "Papa!!" I heard his footsteps running towards me.

"Mirabel, whats wrong?!?" He said when he saw me standing there. I hadn't taken my eyes off the door yet. His gaze followed mine and saw it. His jaw dropped. "Aye dios mio..." He mumbled quietly. "Mira... you're the new holder of the candle..."

"Is everything oka- whoah." Antonio was now by my side staring at the door with us. He was now 13 and surprisingly tall. "...Guys!!" He called out. Eventually everyone was by us. The floor nudged me again. Edging me to go in.

Slowly, I worked up my courage, and my hand reached for the door knob again. I turned and opened the door... the room had changed. It was suited to me now...

It was colorful. There was sewing supplies and art supplies on a desk. The bed had a canopy, there were flowers painted on the wall, but the size and shape hadn't changed much. It seemed like the only thing that was still there from before was one thing. Her black scarf was layed carefully across my bed. She wore that thing constantly. I don't think I'd ever really seen her without it. Yet there it was, waiting for me. I walked into the room- my room. I think the others followed but didn't enter fully yet.

I went to my bed and picked up the scarf. I felt tears leave my eyes and I gripped the fabric. But, I pushed down the tears and turned to the rest of my family. They were mostly in the room, either staring at it, or me. Suddenly, I felt someone hug me.

Surprisingly, it wasn't someone I was expecting. It was... Dolores? I hugged her back, slightly confused. Peering over her shoulder, the others were too.

"Now someone can officiate the next ceremony." She whispered it only to me. We were the only ones to hear.

It took me a second, but then I realized.

My eyes widened and another huge smile covered my cheeks. I hugged her tighter.

"Oh my god!! Oh my god!!!" I squealed. I could barely believe it. I think the others looked to Mariano to explain, but it was still quiet besides me and Dolores. She moved off of me. "Really?!?" She smiled, nodding her head. "Oh Dolores!!" I quickly hugged her again.

"Would someone explain what in the world is happening?!?!" Pepa yelled, anxiously, a cloud covering her. Felix waved it away, but it came right back. None of them had any clue of what was going on at all.

"Tell them!!" I said to Dolores. She took a breath.

"I'm pregnant. I can hear their heartbeats." She held her stomach proudly and smiled. Silence, then, explosion. The whole family blew up in excitement. The third generation of the miracle.

Everyone was asking questions. Things like: "when did you find out," or, "do you know how far along you are," or, "did you just say heartbeatS?" Turns out, she was having triplets! Runs in the family, I guess.

After some of the excitement died down, Pepa went to talk to Dolores privately and everyone went back to cleaning, much happier than before. Papa and I stayed behind in my room, and sat on my bed.

"Well kid, looks like you did have an official gift after all." He nudged my side.

"Official? What do you mean?"

"Really? After all these years, you still haven't realized... you're the gift. You were my gift. When most everyone hated me because of my visions, I got you. You think I even cared at all about the fact you didn't get a gift, or the miracle at your ceremony? When I was standing next to Abuela as you touched the doorknob and it faded away, all I thought of was if you were okay or not. You were the gift all along, Mija." I smiled and hugged him.

"Thank you, Papi."

"Of course, my Mirabel."

Unless I get another idea, the next chapter will be the last unfortunately. So please, if you have any ideas, let me know! :)
