SUBURBIA by Troye Sivan

Justin's Pov

I feel a cold breeze wash through me as I suddenly jolt up from the wooden floor beneath me, my breathing is exceptionally heavy, sweat dripping down my forehead. My chest rises and falls rapidly as I realise where I am, it's the same place that visits me every night and haunts me. Red blood stains cover my white t-shirt as I scramble up from the floor searching round my childhood bedroom. I gulp the lump in my throat down that's creating bile in the bottom of my throat.

I take small and slow steps towards my bedroom door careful of what could be lurking behind it, the floor boards creak and I take a deep breath closing my eyes for a second before collecting myself. It's dusk outside as the moon starts to shine through the dusty window I never bothered to clean when I was fourteen. I take shaky breaths as my quivering hand reaches for the doorknob, my hand is sweaty as I clasp the brass handle in my hand.

Pulling the door open the hinges creak echoing throughout my house, all the lights are off and the floorboards are smashed in on the landing. The banisters are broken and the windows are smashed in the hallway a cold eerie breeze blowing the ripped curtains. It's as if I'm in a horror film but I'm put to the test with something much more sinister, much more terrifying than  a ghost or a demon.

"J-Jazzy..Jaxon?" My voice trembles slightly as I step out into the hallway, the door to their room is left wide open at the end of the hall and my breath hitches wondering if they're in there. My little brother and sister mean the world to me and I couldn't bear to live without either one of them.

"Justin" I hear a tiny whimpering sob of my little brothers voice echoing throughout the house, it seems to be coming from my parents room. I whip my head around to see Jaxon peeking his head round the corner of their door. Thank God, Jaxon races towards me and I bend down to his height pulling him into my arms when he reaches me.

"Jaxo, it's going to be okay, I promise" I lie to him stroking back his blonde hair from his face, I place a kiss on his forehead knowing full well everything is not going to be okay.

"Where's Mummy and Daddy?" Jaxon asks me wrapping his short little arms round my neck as I lift him up off the floor keeping him close to me.

"Mummy and Daddy are fine, have you seen your sister?" I breath out tears threatening to rise as this innocent boy asks me questions I don't know how to answer. Jaxon shakes his head as he buries it into the crook of my neck, I panic slightly but try not to reveal it to Jaxon, he's young but he's not stupid.

Fear realms my body as I slowly make my way downstairs rubbing Jaxon's back for comfort, my eyes widen as I see the sight of the living room. The sofa is turned upside down, the front door is wide open, half my kitchen is scattered across the house, the TV is smashed through the window into the backgarden. I let out a ragged breath trying to keep calm for Jackson's sake, I step onto the floor below hearing glass and various other items crunch beneath my Vans.

I look around trying to find a clever and fairly safe place to hide Jaxon while I look for Jazzy and try to track down my parents, because they sure as hell are't going to be here. I look around the kitchen behind me before spotting a small cupboard beneath the sink that Jaxon cause just about fit into. I jog over to the cupboard pulling it open quickly before placing Jaxon in there, he looks at me confused clinging to my t-shirt.

"Whatever happens Jaxo, I don't want you to move from here unless I tell you to run or I come and get you, do you understand?" I tell him grabbing his face lightly and he nods obvious fear stricken across his face, I lean over placing a kiss on his hair fluffing it slightly before closing the door. I stand up making my way back into the living room examining it for any clues or traces of the intruder or where they might be.
