Smoke and Fire by Sabrina Carpenter

Rosalinda's POV

"I promise you, it's not like that" Justin tries to reach out for my hands, as his gang stands behind him guiltily looking down at the gravel beneath them. You'd thought they'd be less pussy, since they were part of a mafia gang.

"You promise do you? That's another lie. You tell so many lies Justin! What am I really supposed to believe?" I ask, pulling my hands away from his grip. Hugging his coat closer to my body, I was just wearing my night dress.

"I know, I know, I just didn't want you to-"

"Be in any danger? I've heard it all before. How many times do I need to tell you I decide my own fate? You promised me you'd tell me the truth about everything from now on" I say, tears coming to my eyes slightly. I was embarrassed to be like this in front of his friends, but it needed to be done.

"Rosie, please, he didn't mean to upset yo-" my dad tried to speak up, from behind Justin.

"Don't you even speak, Dad! You told me you weren't going to be doing any of this gang shit anymore! Yet you lied to me, too!" I cry, turning away from all of them, trying to compose myself.

"Rose.." Justin mutters out, he was lost for words. Nothing left to say.

"I don't know what else to do. My boyfriend who says he loves me, constantly lies to me. About every thing. And my dad who says he wants to build a life with me again, lies to me too. Am I supposed to have anyone I can trust!" I shout, my hands flailing up in the air.

"Rose, please, keep your voice down, they're going to hear us" Justin puts his hands on my shoulders, pulling me into his body.

"Who! Tell me who, Justin! Stop lying to me?" I turn around to face him, his eyes were bloodshot and red. He was about to cry, they always were like that when he was about to cry. They were glassy, and soft, looking down on me like I was an adolescent child.

"We're smuggling drugs, Rose. I don't want you to see me doing that. I don't want you to see me- I don't want you to change your perspective on me. Change how you feel, see me as a bad person" he says, his hands rubbing up and down my arms. "We're driving this crater in, and pretending that we're working for the harbour. That this is goods that we're helping to ship to the United Kingdom. And when it gets there, there'll be another gang waiting to collect it and we'll receive a few million in money as a reward"

"Why couldn't you of just told me that? I know what you do, I know what your job consists of. I don't judge you, or treat you any different. I don't love you any less?" I question, my eyes searching his. He sends me a small smile, leaving a kiss on my forehead.

"No more secrets, no more lies" he says, pulling my cold body into his. I couldn't help but think I'd heard this all before, but I loved him too much to doubt him. "I see you drove my Lamborghini here"

"I did, and I hope that pissed you off" I say, pulling my body away from his. "Go do your thing, but I'm waiting here for you to get back"

He didn't look like he approved of that offer, but he knew he couldn't piss me off anymore tonight. He nodded, walking back over to his friends, or gang.

I lean against the hood of his car, scrolling through my phone to entertain myself.

I see Harley and Alex getting into the lorry, with the huge crater on the back. And they are about to drive it into the lot, the rest of them following behind.
