It's not like I don't know Taylor's parents and brother but referring them to my family has a whole new meaning. I did a bit of Christmas shopping after work for them, even bought gifts for Dibbles and Mer but no idea what to get for Taylor since the girl has everything. I asked Cara, she has nothing but naughty ideas. Actually, I thought about getting something naughty but her family was going to be with us so that wouldn't be a good idea. I ended up buying a few board games, casual clothes, and DVDs for her and put all of them into one big box. We went tree shopping and decorated it a day before Christmas eve when her family arrives. Dibbles and Mer have been staring at the Christmas lighting on the tree ever since.
Christmas Eve morning, I'm been pacing back and forth, Taylor's family is arriving soon and I'm nervous about asking them for permission to marry her. I know we are not going to get married anytime soon but I want to show her parents I'm wholehearted towards their precious daughter.
"Babe, what's wrong?" Taylor is making lunch for everyone.
"I'm just nervous." This is the first time I see them since the concert ended.
"Don't be silly. It's not like you don't know them. Come help me set the table."
Security rang when we finished setting the table, perfect timing.
They entered the penthouse with lots of hugs and kisses. After the greeting, they settled in the dining room for lunch.
"Let's go see the tree in Rockefeller Center later." Her brother Austin said while we were having fish and pasta.
"That's a good idea. Taylor, what do you think?" Her father Scott had to ask Taylor because of security issue.
Taylor looked at me and said, "We'll go." I'm already picturing the crowd cornering Taylor from all different directions.
"I want family pictures under the tree." Taylor continued.
While Taylor and her mother Andrea doing the dishes, I talked to her security team on what we were going to do in the afternoon, the guys weren't that thrill knowing things can easily get out of hand with the amount of crowd at Rockefeller Center but it's their job to protect her.
Scott was impressed by the instructions I gave to the security team. We sat in the living room across from each other.
"That was good thinking Karlie." He praised me.
I looked at the kitchen direction; make sure Taylor is not coming out soon.
"Scott, I want to ask your permission." I lowered my voice.
"On what?" He's curious and leaned forward.
I took out the ring in my pocket and show him. He gasped and got up from the couch to hug me.
"All her previous relationships left her nothing but pain and bad memories. Do I need to say more? I've never seen her so happy, you changed her life around. Her mother and I are very open about her choice because we love her, we just want her to be happy so with my approval, yes!" I let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you so much. Taylor changed my life also."
"Now you go help Taylor and get her mother out here, I will tell her." I did and I hear Andrea laughed out loud after with "Oh my God".
Austin was in his room so I couldn't tell him ahead. We went to Rockefeller Center when security team was ready. We went with 2 cars; traffic was blocked off a street away from the tree, meaning we had to walk there which poses a great challenge for the security team. When we got there her parents and brother got off from their car first, we waited until they walked near the tree before getting out of our car. No paparazzi but fans and crowd can be even more fearsome than them. Taylor is doing her best in disguise but she refused to wear dorky glasses this time because she wanted to take family photos.
I'm counting in my head, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 the first girl screamed and heads started to turn in our direction. I put my arm around Taylor's waist and walked as fast as we could to where her family is.
When we got there, her security team quickly took a few photos of the family and then Scott waved at me, wanted me to be in the picture with them, it was such a warm feeling to be part of the family. NBC station is located there; within a minute they got a camera crew to film us, their exclusive clip on Taylor in Rockefeller Center.
When I thought we could go back to the car, Taylor said. "One more, just you and I." Her family started to walk past the crowd headed back to their car when we took our photos. Afterward, she took a few selfies with fans before security team got us out.
"It wasn't bad, right?" Taylor said when we were in the car. I see her security team shook their heads.
We got home, rested a bit then changed for dinner. Taylor made a reservation at a Japanese restaurant in Tribeca, just a few blocks away so we decided to walk there. Paparazzi had a field day; on purpose, I walked behind all of them, at least 15 feet behind. I'm sure Tree didn't approve the afternoon photos so let's not get on her nerves twice in a day.
We both put on elegant Oscar de la Renta dresses; hers is red, mine's green and killer heels in which I'm towering over everyone. Dinner was fabulous; we took the car back because it was getting cold. I got more nervous as the car got close to home. Dibbles greeted us at the entrance while Mer lay on the couch staring at us as usual.
I bought Taylor's favorite Momofuku rainbow cake for dessert. Scott opened a bottle of champagne and winked at me. I took the hint and went to the guest room to get the ring. They were all sitting in the living room having cake when I came out of the guest room. I sat down next to Taylor, hiding the box behind me. Austin who sat across from me saw the box and he gasped with excitement.
I cleared my throat, "I...I have something to say." They're all put down their plates and turned to me.
I grabbed Taylor's hand and smiled. Her aqua blue eyes were a bit confused but she smiled back. "What is it, babe?"
I looked into her eyes and said, "Taylor, I know we've only known each other for a year but we've been through so much together." She, of course, understood what I mean, we literally been through life and death.
"You are the best thing happened in my life and I love you. I want to stay by your side forever." By now Taylor kind of realized what is going on, a single tear streamed down her face.
"I don't have much to offer but what I'm giving you is all I have. I want to spend good times and bad times together with you and I want to cherish you for the rest of my life." I took the box out and opened it in front of her. She cried when she saw the ring.
"Taylor Alison Swift, would you marry me?" Taylor is sobbing, covered her face with both hands.
"Is that a yes?" I asked, holding the ring in my hand.
"I'll take it if she doesn't want it." Austin joked. Taylor quickly put her hands down and gave him a killer look.
She looked at me and said, "Yes!" I put the ring on her finger and we pecked our lips. Andrea was wiping tears from her eyes. They're all gave us hugs and kisses after. What a wonderful Christmas this is.
