I was told every designer at New York Fashion Week wanted me. I walked as many as 4 shows a day; made headlines almost daily in fashion news and am definitely walking in Paris Fashion Week in March. When I got home every night Taylor had to massage my aching feet from wearing 6" heels.
My last walk was Michael Kors show. Taylor sat next to Vogue magazine's editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Some of Taylor's model friends like Martha Hunt, Gigi Hadid walked as well and I had the honor to open and close the show. Michael was going crazy backstage making sure everything looked perfect. All the outfits were checked, shoes tried on, hair and makeup were done perfectly. There were so much money, time and effort invested for the 10 minutes show. Music was playing outside but I still know when Taylor arrived, a number of flashes, commotions, noises were just unreal. I was standing near the entrance of the runway, ready for the show. Lights dimmed, the music changed, stagehand gave me a signal to start. Giving a dead stare is easy for me since I was an Angel of Death; I executed the first outfit flawlessly. I was so focused on the runway that I didn't notice where exactly Taylor was sitting but I don't have time to find out, as I needed to change for the final outfit to close the show. Hair and makeup team did the final touch up and I was ready to walk the runway again. The show was well received and all the models did the final walk, I was able to get a quick glimpse to locate Taylor and gave her a wink.
I was backstage thanking everyone when Taylor and Anna Wintour came in. Anna gave me a hug, "That was fabulous Karlie." and then went to see Michael Kors. Taylor hugged me tightly, "That was a wonderful show, and you did an excellent job. I can see why you are loved by the fashion world. I'm so proud of you." She gave me a quick peck on the lips before her model friends came over to greet her. We took a ton of photos to put on social media but I was careful to avoid posting photos of the two of us, don't want to upset her publicist team.
I had a few days off before flying again when both Jourdan and Cara came to visit.
"Wow, this is unusual for both of you in the same city at the same time." It was a sunny afternoon; Taylor was in the kitchen making tea for them.
"How are you, Kar?" Jourdan asked while admiring my engagement ring.
"Couldn't be better." It was the truth.
"Karl, we need to talk," Cara said nervously. Taylor came out with a tray of tea and cookies.
We all said thank you to her. I motioned her to sit next to me and put my hand on her leg.
"What were you saying Car? I was munching a cookie.
Cara looked at me and then look at Taylor.
Taylor got the hint and was about to get up when I said, "Car, whatever it is, I want Taylor to know also."
The girls looked at each other and sighed. "Toni is here," Jourdan said.
My body went stiff. "What do you mean by that? She can't be here."
"Like me, she sweet-talked her way to become an Angel." Cara drank her tea.
There was silence after until Taylor hesitated to ask, "Who...who is Toni?"
Cara sighed, "Toni is Karl's girlfriend."
I felt Taylor went into shock. I quickly grabbed her hand and coldly said, "No, Toni is my ex-girlfriend. We broke up before I met Taylor."
"Kar, we've heard Toni went ballistic when she found out you got engaged. Not to say anything bad about her but just be careful." Jourdan was concern.
"Toni will not hurt Taylor, it's unlike her to do something like that," I said it with confidence.
"Karl you dummy. Of course, she's not going to touch Taylor but if she wants you, there is only one way to get you back." Cara looked into my eyes.
I begin to sweat; Cara is right, there is only one way...that is if I'm dead. Taylor already showed fear in her eyes. "Don't worry hon, I'll be alright. She won't hurt me." I assured her. "Kar, you know I can't live without you." Taylor held my hand tightly.
After the girls left, Taylor wanted to call for more security but I stopped her. "If she wants to come, no one can stop an Angel of Death."
That night when we were in bed Taylor rested her head on my chest with my arm around her. "Kar, tell me about her." She asked softly.
I was thinking back, way back when Toni and I were young.
"We were young when we met. She was from this world, died young; she didn't know anyone or had any connections in the dark world, others always picked on her. I was a born Angel even though I was young but my status was somewhat higher than most, like a royalty." I chuckled. "I didn't like how she was being treated so I protect her whenever I can, we were the same age and spent a lot of time together, we just started naturally. We were together for a few years. I loved her." I moved my arm away from Taylor; turned my body to the side to face her, slowly caressed her face with my finger. "She was my first love but that was in the past and it's been over. But you, Taylor, you are the love of my life and I would do anything to protect you." I kissed her forehead.
Taylor pecked my lips and asked, "What happened between you and her? I mean how did you break up with her?"
"Hon, let's not talk about this now, I'm tired." I kissed Taylor and went to sleep. Taylor, on the other hand, was up all night thinking about this Toni.
