Chapter 27 - The Bet

This is déjà vu for Taylor. More than a year and a half ago she opened the door to another Angel of Death and by fate that Angel ended up being her wife but now the Angel in front of her will bring nothing but trouble.

Taylor is not going to bother calling security since it's useless. She stared at Toni and deepened her voice. "Why are you here?"

"Aren't you going to let me in first?" Toni smiled. Taylor moved to the side and let her in. Just like when Taylor first met Karlie, Toni surveyed her penthouse while Taylor took a good look at her wife's ex-girlfriend who dressed head to toe in a stunning off-white pants suit. Taylor noticed she and her have striking similarities - tall, slender, blonde hair, blue eyes, supermodel figure. Taylor can see why Karlie fell for her but is she Toni's replacement? She wondered for a second.

"Impressive place." Toni's voice brought Taylor back to reality.

"Why are you here?" Taylor asked the same question again.

"I want Karlie back!" Toni stared straight into Taylor's eyes.

"You know we are married. You know you'll get punished by the old man if you do anything foolish to us but the main point is Karlie chose me." Taylor is defending what's rightfully hers.

"Don't worry, I'm not going to do anything to you or Karlie but I will show you who Karlie really wants." Toni paused and walked around the living room. Each step she walked on the hardwood floor made Taylor's heart skipped a beat.

"Do you want to take a bet?" Toni stopped walking and turned to face Taylor.

"What bet and why should I?" Taylor felt the air is getting thick.

"This bet will show you who is really in Karlie's heart. If she chose me then there's no point for you to hold her any longer but if she chose you, I will disappear and never ever bother you and her again, I promise." Toni said it slowly with the last sentence.

Taylor went silence.

Toni sat herself on the nearby leather couch, crossed her long legs and looked out the window. "I died young, life isn't always fair. Unlike other ghosts or spirits or whatever you want to call it, I didn't have a family in the other world. I was always teased by others, they were mean to me." Toni said it in a hate-filled voice. "And then I met Karlie." Her tone softens. "She was a princess in the dark world, a sunshine in my world. She protected me, shield me from harm. We were young, innocent and madly in love. We gave each other's our firsts." Toni stopped and looked at Taylor who now sat across from her listening without emotion. "Your wife is not as innocent as she looks but she knows when to draw the line. I, on the other hand, crossed the line. I admit it was a mistake but temptations got me and I made the same mistake again. By then I realized what I've done, I hurt the most precious person in my life. We were both devastated. I vowed to get her back but she took on a yearlong job, your job." Toni paused again, thinking back how crazy she was when she found out Karlie took the yearlong job. "I had to see her, I worked my way up to become an Angel. What I didn't expect was she gave up her Angel status. I'm sure Karlie just wants a change and not because of you." Toni paused again, shifted her body to face Taylor directly. "Don't you want to know who Karlie really wants? Are you afraid to find out you're just my replacement?"

Taylor's head is spinning, can't think straight, all she wants is to get rid of this woman sitting in front of her and never see her again.

"If I went with the bet, how can I trust you?" Taylor is putting her hand over her head.

"Well, we'll need a witness. Cara, get your ass over here." The door opened automatically and Cara walked in. Taylor got up and embraces her.

"Toni, what you are doing isn't right, you know." Cara scolded her.

"Is that why you followed me to here?" Toni didn't pay any attention to Cara when she talked.

"The old man wants me to follow you whenever you have a job in New York because he knows you won't leave them alone. Let go, Toni, they are happily married."

"Are they really happily married? Do you know whom Karlie really wants? Do you know Cara?" Toni is being sarcastic.

Toni and Cara went back and forth. Suddenly Taylor said, "I'll accept the bet."

"Taylor, don't be silly. Karlie never had affairs when she was with Toni, she's tricking you to give up Karl." Cara was trying to help.

"But she has a point. If Karlie wants her then our marriage is meaningless." Taylor is looking down on the floor while Toni had a smirk on her face.

"Taylor, you're young, you'll find someone who truly loves you in the near future," Toni added.

"I already have my true love for me and I have faith in her." Taylor is not backing down easily.

"Alright, let's do it." Toni got up from the couch.

"Toni, no trick." Cara gazed at Toni.

"Don't worry, I will be fair..." Toni smiled smugly and turned to Taylor. "Cara, you are our witness. Here's how the bet works if you choose to accept Taylor Alison Swift. I am going to seduce Karlie if she gave in, I won and I will take her with me. If not, I will not bother Karlie Elizabeth Swift-Kloss and Taylor Alison Swift-Kloss for the rest of their lives." Toni stared at Taylor's blue eyes.

"Toni, you can't take Karlie with you, it's not her time." Cara is concerned. For Toni to take Karlie, she would have to die.

"Not if I won. Too many people die every day, who keeps a count. If you don't say anything to the old man, he won't know." Toni gave Cara an evil glance.

Taylor bit her bottom lip, "I accept."

"Taylor..." Cara almost wanted to cry.

Both Toni and Taylor raised their arms and slapped each other's open palm 3 times.

"Cara, don't you dare give Karlie hints," Toni warned Cara for the last time. "Okay, let's go."

"Where are we going?" Taylor is puzzled.

"We are going to find Karlie. To be fair, you and Cara will watch how I seduce Karlie but she won't see the two of you. Karlie is not an Angel anymore, she doesn't have the power." Toni grabbed Taylor's hand and walked out the door.

Taylor's heart is pounding. This is insane, she is going to watch her wife getting seduced by another woman. What if...what if...she can't think anymore?
