My phone ringing woke me up in the morning. Reaching for it, half asleep and clumsy. I hit the button and placed it by my ear.
"Hello." I answered.
"Well hi." It was Pam.
"Please tell me I slept in and you're not calling me to ask about what happened last night." I said.
"I couldn't wait." She was too awake.
"Pammie, I love you. But I really need coffee. Can I call you back?"
"Don't wait too long. I will call you back soon."
"I will call you."
"Wait. Coffee! Be there in fifteen. Get a shower and dress."
"Pam."
"Tootle-loo." She hung up.
I groaned and hung up. She likes Rayon way too much. But I did what she said and got out of bed. When the bell rang twenty minutes later, I was dressed and waiting. Handing me a peppermint soy latte, Pam came inside, smiling more than anyone should so early in the morning on a day off.
"Okay. Spill it." She sat at the breakfast nook.
"It was just two people having dinner and I took him to watch Tessa and Scott practice." I sipped the latte.
"You took him figure skating? Aw honey. You've been with James too long. You don't take a man to figure skating." She teased.
"Just so you know, he enjoyed it. He loved the artistry of the performance."
"Oh my god. You found another one." She smiled.
I knew what what she meant. "I did not. He is definitely not a gay man. He's open minded and a dreamer."
"Really? Are you going to see him again?"
"Later today. He's only in town for a few more days. I like him. He's fun."
"What about..."
"No! I'm not going there."
"Okay, okay. Just wondering."
"Have you heard anything yet?" I changed the subject.
"Not yet. I'm expecting something Monday."
"Sounds good."
"What are you wearing?"
"Monday?"
Pam laughed. "Come on. I must invade your closet."
"Pam. Really?!" I whined.
"Bring your latte. We must accessorize." She grabbed my hand and we went to the bedroom.
Reminding her of the temperature, she pulled clothes from everywhere. Finally, after two hours, an empty dress and closet, I had an outfit that would be comfortable, warm and flirty (her words). We continued talking as I brushed out my hair, put on a little makeup and finished our drinks.
"So where are you going today?" Pam wondered.
"Not sure. There's the ROM," the Royal Ontario Museum, "Or maybe the wall climbing arena."
"The ROM! Please let him pick. You're such a nerd sometimes. Promise me you'll let him choose."
"Fine. Just for that, you get off the train first."
Getting ready for the outside, we left my apartment, went to the subway and travelled back downtown.
