In the morning, I woke up earlier than Jared and did something so selfish. I let him sleep. I dressed quietly, grabbed my boots then left him a note on the pillow I'd used.
"My heart is mended, full of love I give to you.
I already miss you and anticipate being in your arm again.
Have a wonderful day.
You will be in my thoughts until I'm with you again.
Love you
Your Snow Princess."
I had to get a change of clothes before going to work. Before I left the hotel, I asked for some breakfast to be sent up. Pancakes of course. And to add a purple flower to the tray. A nod to how much I believed in his work as an actor, musician and businessman. He was as dedicated as I was and I wanted to support him as much as he had me.Walking into the office, I greeted everybody as I went through. I was surprised that Pam wasn't in. She always eat me to work. It did give me time to organize my thoughts before she came in to ask about my day. Turning on the computer, I checked out any emails that may have come in from the lawyers or police, that needed to be answered right away.
"Oh good, you're here." Pam came in and quickly closed the door.
I looked up. "Sleep late?"
"No. I've been at the police station." She explained.
"What? Why."
"Looking at security footage. That vacant building had came as that still worked."
"Oh wow. Great!"
"Maybe." Her mood changed.
"Something wrong?"
Pam sat across from me. "They showed the footage of when you were hurt."
I sat back waiting.
"Lisa. Honey. You weren't shot by the police accidentally."
"What do you mean?"
"Daniel took out a gun. While the dog change, he pointed it at you. The police hit him and his aim changed. He had been aiming at you back."
I felt shock move through me. My brother was going to kill me? The understanding couldn't make it into my thoughts.
"Do you want me to call Jared for you?" She asked.
I shook my head. "No. I.... I just need to do some work. Keep myself busy."
"Are you going to shut yourself down?" She was worried.
"He asked me to go to New York and Europe."
"Maybe that a good idea. Get away from everything. I can take care of things here."
"Yeah."
"I'll be outside of you need me." She stood up. "Lisa. That's not your brother anymore."
I met her eyes and nodded, knowing what she meant. Pam walked out, toward her desk. I fought the urge to cry, reach out for my phone and call Jared. I needed to deal with what I'd just heard my own way.
For the rest of the day, I tried to concentrate on work. Since my reports were finished, I knew that the should focus on another case. All I could think about was how things got so turned around.
"So." Pam stood at the door. "Are you going home or to the hotel?"
"I really want to be by myself." I sighed deeply.
"Yeah but...."
"But I probably shouldn't be."
"Want me to ride to the hotel with you?"
I shook my head. "I'll be alright. Once I get there, it'll be better."
"Just don't go back to where you were. That's not a good place."
"I won't go back. I have too much to be happy about right now."
"Okay. Yeah know. As much as the fangirl in me is jealous, I'm glad you have Jared.,he's a good man and that what you need."
"Never thought I'd ever meet one. Besides Jamie that is."
That made her smile. "Come on. Let's get out of here."
"Sounds good to me." I shut off the computer, stood up and joined my friend as we left.I made a quick stop at my place before the hotel. There was a pair of shoes and some clothes I wanted. Also, I decided to grab some comfy PJs for sitting around while Jared was still working. I was surprised that Jamie was still there when I arrived. It was so late.
"Hi. I thoughts you'd be gone home." I hugged him.
"Not yet. I wanted to see you before I left. I haven't seen you much." He kissed my cheek.
"I know."
"But I understand. If I had someone like that to entertain me, I'd be busy to." He let out his inner flirt.
I chuckled. "It's not only Jared. With work finally coming to fruition, I have to deal with reports and police interviews."
"Come on. After all this time, you finally found love."
"I've always had love. I have you and Pam."
"But a god man to love you is a whole other way of life."
"He asked me to go to New York with him."
Jamie's expression changed from professional, to best friend gossip time. "No way! Are you going?" His voice got a little higher.
"Haven't exactly decided yet."
"But you want to." He bumped my shoulder.
I smiled. "I do. I'm not sure what to expect."
"Don't over think it. Have fun with it."
"Who thought you'd be the romantic one of all of us." I touched his cheek.
"Well I do enjoy a good romantic comedy. Have a good night and keep me informed."
"Both you and Pam."
"Always sharing. Take care of your injury."
"I will. Talk of you later."
We hugged and I headed to the elevator. Using the pass key Jared trusted me with, I opened the door, stepped inside and smiled. A small table was set up with flowers, candles and plates covered to keep the food hot. How did I get so lucky? Sensitive, romantic, and thoughtful. He was damn near perfect.
"Welcome home Beautiful Lady." A silky, charming voice spoke near the bedroom.
Looking over , I saw Jared dressed in black jeans, a white button down shirt, shined shoes, his face bare of any makeup and that green hair flowing freely.
"Now is it so possible that you are so disturbingly sexy like that?" I asked checking him over again.
"I can't do much about the hair right now but I wanted to have a quiet diner with you."
"Sounds wonderful."
He walked over, reached for my hand then led me to the table and held the chair as I sat down. Sitting across from me Jared lifted the plate covers to show off the grilled vegetable with sliced almonds and tufu.. It looked and smelled great.
"Jared. I couldn't imagine a nicer way to come back here." I couldn't stop smiling.
"Well thank you for letting me sleep in this morning."
"You had a tiring evening. You needed to rest."
"Tonight, we can just sit and talk or not do a thing."
"When do you go back to work?"
"Tomorrow night, but I don't want to talk about it. It's all about us tonight and being calm."
"That sounds wonderful."
He reached over to touch my jawline. So like feathers.
"Let's eat before it gets cold."
"Okay." He had such a way of making me happy in the simplest way.
