After work, I went home, showered , changed clothes and, as Pam said, went out with her and Jamie for dinner. He has to hear everything that happened. I left out some details but he knew, just the way I spoke. Later, back home, as I sat with a cup of tea and watching some Sit-Com on TV, Jared called. He'd arrived in Paris and was on a whirlwind of getting settled and having the press get pictures. His look, for the movie, was big news, since he'd cut and dyed the hair he'd had for over a year. Even when he won his Oscar, his hair was a big topic. Over the next few days in Paris, he'd send me pictures and messages, just being playful and to say he was thinking of me. One of the pictures with Karl Lagerfeld (the designer) made me smile. Both men with white hair and dressed for the fashion show. They looked like father and son.
Off to Russia for two weeks of shows with the band, he was excited to be there and back onstage. Unfortunately, we were video chatting one night and he said that he wasn't feeling well. I noticed that his eyes were looking tired and he seemed drained of energy.
"How can I disappoint everyone that bought a ticket?" His voice was strained.
"You can play for them later. Jared you need to take care of yourself. All that traveling, with little sleep, is not good for you." I wanted him to be healthy.
"That's true. I don't know how to stop working."
"I totally understand."
"How's things going? Have you gotten your papers yet?"
"Should have in the next few days. Then I have to coordinate with the police department. I want this one so bad."
"You'll get it. Tomo thinks you're a dog angel for doing that."
I laughed. "Tell him that he can come along sometime. It's never pretty."
"He'd like that." Taking a deep breath, Jared coughed and lay back on to his bed. "I wish you were here."
"I am there. Just think of me and I'm with you. When you get back, we'll make up for it, just stay healthy my beautiful Cali Boy."
"I will try Snow Princess."
"I love you. Go to bed."
"I will. Love you too."
The chat was shut off and I went to read more noted before I went to bed as well.
Jared got worse instead of better and the band had to change the dates for a few shows. He was crushed. People put angry messages online that made him very sad. I tried to console him as best I could, telling him that he couldn't help being sick, and that fans needed to understand that it wasn't on purpose. Did he kill himself by pushing ahead or get better and give the best shows he could. He did get better and made up for the shows, even doing an acoustic show in Moscow that he was very proud of. That made me happy for him.
