Be brave, little one
Make a wish for each sad little tear
Hold your head up though no one is near
Someone's waiting for you

Hyoga was holding back his tears, he was in the backseat of a car taking him to Alekseevsky Orphanage for Children, and was still trying to assimilate everything.

He was supposed to make a trip to Japan with his mother, but instead, he was alone and on his way to an orphanage, they had not even reached their destination. Natasha was eager for her son to see the world, so instead of taking a flight that would take them directly to Japan, they did a whole trip by road and then by ship. That decision cost Natasha her life.

He had only kept one thing, one memory from his now passed mother: her beautiful Rosary, a Cross with embedded rubies. He held it close to his heart, and tried to imagine his mother's embrace one last time.

He remembered how Natasha always told him not to cry, how that didn't solve anything, and besides, it made his beautiful blue eyes become red and puffy. But at that moment he didn't care. He was a child, he was alone, and he had just gone through a very traumatic experience.

Once in the orphanage, he was put in a cold and small bed, he couldn't manage to fall asleep; but little by little, minute by minute, he found himself in a deep sleep.

He dreamed of his mother, she was standing right infront of him, he ran to her and held her tight.

"Don't cry my love, I'm always by your side... and everything is going to be just fine... don't you worry..."

Don't cry, little one
There'll be a smile where a frown use to be
You'll be part of the love that you see
Someone's waiting for you

Hyoga grew up to be a serious and calculating young man, he always kept it cool, never showing his feelings or letting anything affect him. But inside he wanted to scream. He wanted to break down and cry and yell at the top of his lungs.

He kept his mother's Cross closed to him at all time. His most precious possession.

Hyoga was constantly alone, but he preferred it. At first, many children and adults wanted to comfort him, to stay by his side; but they had had enough, enough of him, tired of his constant whining.

He had learned to grow a shell, where nothing and no one could hurt him or abandon him.

Even when he had the chance to get adopted, he did everything in his power to stay in the institution.

No one could ever love him the way Natasha did, understand him as she used to, or gave him such a comforting embrace like hers.

Always keep a little prayer in your pocket
And you're sure to see the light
Soon there'll be joy and happiness
And your little world will be bright

Through all his adventures and misfortunes, Natasha's Cross was his only steady companion. Since he didn't have anyone, whenever he felt he was going to fall, whenever he felt lonely, whenever he thought he couldn't keep going, the blond held the Rosary tight and remembered his mother's embrace.

But his life was far from happy, he was constantly in a dark place, to be honest, it was as if he had fell into a big deep hole when his mother died; and after all those years he was still there, hopeless, with only his mother's memory to guide him and encourage him, to keep him sane and alive.

Hyoga wasn't sure if he was even trying to get out of that hole at all, perhaps he did, at the beginning, but eventually gave up; or maybe he never wanted to get out in the first place. The world appeared to be just as nasty as the horrible place he was in, perhaps the outside was no better, and in that case, it didn't matter if he stayed alone in the darkness, at least there he was safe.

Safe from what?

From being hurt.

But being hurt is part of being alive... is part of loving.

So, did that mean he was never to love again? He wasn't sure, but if he was, then he was only going to give his love to someone who actually deserved it, someone who was worth getting hurt for.

Have faith, little one
'Til your hopes and your wishes come true

And in the middle of all that darkness and loneliness, of all that gloomy thoughts and coldness, a warm and beautiful light appeared, a kind spirit, to aid him out of the shadows.

Perhaps that was an angel, his white and soft skin surely resembled one; and his eyes, which were of the most beautiful shade of green, shone like two emeralds. His hair was the same color, green, the color of hope, of rebirth and renewal.

Hyoga hesitated for a second, but finally grabbed the youth's hand. At the moment they touched each other, he had a feeling of safety and something else he couldn't quite describe.

And all of a sudden, the world start to lose the grey in it, and everything turned into bright colors. He could trust him, he could... love him.

The angel-like boy showed him a world Hyoga wasn't aware it existed. He made him laugh, he held his hand during the hardest times, and made him feel like a whole new person.

And his embrace, it was the most comfortable and warm hug he had felt in years. He finally felt loved and happy again.

Someone's waiting to love you...

And for all the years they shared together, Hyoga was happier than ever before, his life had value once again, just because that compassionate and caring young man was by his side.

And in the end, he indeed loved once again, just as much as he loved his mother.

"Told you my dearest Hyoshka, everything is fine now..."

He had finally found that person worth getting hurt for.

Shun.
