Family Affairs
Hyoga decides it's time to attend a matter Shun has been actively avoiding: children of their own.

It was late at night, and after a busy day visiting Hyoga's mother, all Shun wanted to do was sit on the couch with a book or a cheesy romcom and relax until slumber hit him.
Nevertheless, deep inside, he knew that wasn't going to be possible. During luncheon with Natasha, her future grandchildren were a recurring conversation topic. It was natural; five years after her only son's wedding, Natasha was eager to hold some babies in her arms and spoil a child or two with treats and presents. She wasn't getting any younger, and, according to her, she had already waited long enough.
Now, Shun had nothing against children; he really liked them! And was rather good with them. But since his sexual awakening in his early teens, he came to think that perhaps a regular family wasn't in store for him. No marriage and no kids. Just him and his loved one, living together as a couple; and maybe a dog or a cat.
Except Hyoga didn't see it that way.
Unlike Shun, the blond was pretty sure about his heterosexuality until he met the green-haired boy in his early twenties. He grew up thinking he'd eventually marry a beautiful woman and bear a lot of chubby European babies with her. Once he embraced his pansexuality—more like Shunsexuality at that point—he only changed the pretty girl in his imagination for his pretty boy.
That being said, it took the blond a ridiculous amount of time and effort to convince his then boyfriend to marry him; after that odyssey, he knew the "children talk" would be a tough one, which could explain his expression when his mother simply didn't feel like changing the topic. He himself had tried to have a few conversations with his husband about it, but none led to anything consistent; his mother's attempts were certainly futile.
When Hyoga joined his husband on the couch, Shun swallowed a little nervous and focused on his book, not reading anything at all, just staring blankly at the pages.
"It was a long day, huh?" Hyoga said casually to break the ice.
"Yeah," Shun replied, without taking the look away from his book.
Hyoga sighed; that was going to be harder than expected. "I'm sorry... about my mom." Shun tightened the grip on his book. "You know her; she can't wait to be a grandma."
"Oh! Don't worry. It's okay," Shun answered, relaxing his hands, still not looking at his husband. Maybe he could get away with it and avoid that conversation.
Silence invaded the room for an awkward whole minute that felt like an eternity to both of them. Shun stood still; maybe if he remained like that long enough, Hyoga would surrender.
"But..."
There it was. Mission failed.
"I think it is a good time to have this conversation... again."
Shun closed his book loudly, he had lost the battle. He shifted in his place to look at his husband better. "Alright."
"We've been married for five years now, and we've been together for almost twelve. I think we've waited long enough; we certainly haven't rushed. And, любимый, I really want a family." Hyoga softly clapsed his husband's hands into his, ending his speech.
"Define family, Hyoga," Shun asked gently.
"You and I... and a few kids."
"A few!"
"Three or four..." Hyoga added cautiously; once he saw the look on his husband's face, he corrected. "Or two... or one..."
"You know what family means to me?" Shun added; Hyoga slowly shrank in his place. "People that love each other unconditionally. Like you and me. Seiya and Shiryu. Your mom and Ikki nii-san," Shun added with a smile. "And Usako," he finished after a pause, turning his head towards the small bunny that slept peacefully inside its crate. Both of them laughed. "We don't need children to be a family."
Hyoga's smile faded. "Why if I still want them?" Shun didn't reply, so Hyoga continued. "Why don't you want children, anyway?"
"Do I need a reason?"
Hyoga snorted; Shun was making excuses again. "No. I'm just curious. I've seen you around kids; they love you! And sometimes I think it's reciprocal."
Silence dominated again. Shun came to realize he actually didn't have a reason. He had just erased that idea out of his mind. Without any other motive than «it's not meant to be for me». But he had never actually asked himself if he wanted children or not. He was scared of his answer. He hated confrontation with anyone and himself. A kid would suppose some kind of struggle with orphanages and people who thought two fathers were just not okay.
"I don't know..." Shun confessed, "I guess... I always thought I would never have them." Shun looked away; his fears materialized.
Hyoga remained silent for a moment; he knew exactly what Shun meant. "Adoption is a thing, you know?" Hyoga noted. "My mom doesn't care where the children come from as long as they come." Both of them burst into laughter. "And neither do I."
Shun grinned.
Back then, he didn't even think marriage could've been an actual possibility, but times were changing, and the circumstances were a little more forgiving than before.
To love differently didn't mean he had to renounce basic things such as marriage and children. There was a way, and with Hyoga, they could find it together.
"We don't have to do it now, but we can actually start to talk about it and make some plans."
"Okay, but one at a time, Hyo-chan. We won't bring four kids home all of a sudden."
Hyoga laughed. "Of course!"
Shun leaned forward to kiss his husband on the lips and then snuggle upon his chest. "A girl would be nice to begin with."
"Noted. I think the same."
