IT WAS true. Charlotte Taylor hadn't been on a date or dated anyone since she broke up with Austin Moon that night in his room.
Did she regret not putting herself out there? Yes.
Did she still have romantic feelings for Austin? Yes.
But, she wanted to make an effort to put herself out there, to let people know that she was readily available to date.
But she didn't know how to quite make herself known.
It was different with Austin. She was doing that on a whim. Though she was rejected; they dated right after.
"Hey, Charlotte."
"Hey, Luke."
Charlotte and Luke were like friends who didn't know how close they were. Does that make sense?
"Carter told me about the Homecoming dance."
"Don't know why he would do that."
Charlotte wasn't bad at social queues, but it take her forever to realized that Austin still had feelings for her.
"He said Ally needed someone to help write a song for her, so he offered my assistance."
"That's... something he would do."
"I don't mind." He smiled, "Ally's been asking to see some of my music anyways."
"Sounds fun."
"Are you going?"
"To my Homecoming dance?" She chuckled, "Yeah."
"Well I'll catch you there."
Charlotte nodded with a smile and Luke began walking off. He quickly returned and rested his hands on the counter.
"Are you busy after the dance?"
"I shouldn't be."
"Would you like to go out and get dinner with me?"
No one had asked Charlotte to do anything unless with was Carter or Austin.
"Yeah."
"It's a date." Luke smiled and headed off.
"SHE'S GOING on a date?"
"Yep, and I wanted to be the one to tell you."
Carter wasn't vicious, but he would just love to see how jealous Austin Moon could get.
"Don't you think it's fair that Charlotte putting herself on the market?"
"Yeah. That's great, but-"
Austin wanted nothing more than for Charlotte to be happy... but happy with him not anyone else.
Trust, he wasn't being possessive about it. He just thought him and Charlotte had been working on getting back together since Christmas, but that was months ago.
"You don't think Luke's gonna take all her time away... from you?"
"No one can replace me." Carter laughed, "Trust me, people have tried."
"Who?"
"Exactly." Carter sighed, "Maybe it's just time to let her go."
"What if I don't want to."
"I can appreciate a fight, but I think it's best to let Charlotte try this date with Luke out. Besides, Dez and I will be watching them from afar."
Austin would never admit out loud how right Carter was.
Austin had gone on multiple dates with people and even dated while Charlotte hadn't.
It just sucked that she was going out with Luke instead of him.
He couldn't and wouldn't chance Charlotte's mind about her date with Luke.
Maybe it was time for Austin Moon to move on.
