I wasn't a big fan of math class and it wasn't my best subject in school but Alesia always helped me. She had to stay after school for her fashion club meeting which was hours ago. She hasn't called me back, she probably went to work with her mom. She mentioned to me earlier at school that her mom was short staffed so I could catch her at the outlet mall. My twin brother of course waited for her now that they have been an item for several months now. I sometimes third wheeled it but most of the time I gave them their space. Like today there wasn't a meeting after school for the photography club so I came home after school. It was getting pretty late since the whole ordeal happened last summer and months have passed since we had to be home right after school. My parents finally eased up on the curfew and now it was by dinner time, which my brother took full advantage of.

Mom and I were in the kitchen while she was in the middle of cooking dinner. It's been a while since all of us minus my brother were in the house as my parents were taking a couple of days off from their jobs. I could hear the oil sizzle as my mom flipped the chicken fajitas over. It was my dad's night to choose what was for dinner. He chose fajitas which were his favorite.

I was getting frustrated with one of the word problems when I put my pencil down on my textbook and glanced at the TV that was set on top of the refrigerator. I watched the tv when the headlines of the afternoon news were about to start. The screen blinked as the letters in bold swooshed from left to right BREAKING NEWS. The news anchor woman started to speak, "good afternoon at the top of the hour we have Breaking news at the start of the 6'oclock news. We have breaking news serial killer and mass murder Peter Reiley one of the two murderers from the series of murders in up in down the state of california has escaped..." my eyes focused on the screen as Peter's mugshot was displayed on the screen. I held in my breath. No words came out of my mouth. I tried so hard to call out for my mom and dad but nothing came out. It felt as if my voice was taken away. I opened and shut my mouth.

Nothing.

I stared at the screen. His mugshot picture on the screen had the same facial expression he had when we were up on the faris wheel. His chin was slightly tilted down, his dark blue eyes staring straight, while the corner of his lips pulled into a smile.

My eyes were fixed on him

My eyes were fixed on him.

There wasn't one night that he didn't pop into my head even while I was sleeping. The nightmares were always the same. The night where he almost took my life. Over and over. My parents reassure me that nothing was going to happen to me. They of course wanted me to go and talk to someone and that I need to talk to a therapist to help me with my ptsd because everything was so fresh still.

His mugshot switched to the crime scene of the fair shooting police surrounding the area taping off the field. I wasn't able to hear the rest when my mom's phone started to ring which took me out of my trance. She stopped cooking, leaving the wooden spoon in the pot of red rice. In that moment everything slowed down. I heard my mom scream. I looked over my shoulder when her phone fell onto the floor cracking her screen. Just seconds later my dad ran into the kitchen.

I turned off the stove when my mom looked at my dad with tears spilling out of her eyes. Her chin wobbled. The words couldn't come out of her mouth.

She took a couple short breaths, "Alessia and Victor were attacked. They are on their way to the hospital," my mom explained. I turned back to face the tv but it had already changed to the next news story. My dad's phone rang. I watched him as his fingers ran through his hair. I wished I knew what he was listening to or who he was talking to. I knew what was to come next which was heading to the hospital.

There was only one person that could attack them. One person who had been after us for a year.

I still haven't said anything to my parents. About the news. My dad went to the livingroom to talk on the phone. I watched my mom pick up her phone off of the white tiled floor.

After surviving what happened last year. We were just a month away from being a year since the incident.

At that moment I still couldn't say that he was on the tv and that he had escaped. My train of thought was broken when I smelled something burning other than rice. I walked out of the kitchen and followed the smell. It was coming from upstairs. Small puffs of black smoke were coming out from the direction of my room. I kicked the door when I saw a vase of red roses on fire.

He was here

He was here.

He was in my room.

That was his signature.

The burning of red roses.

I screamed.

My parents ran to my room. I watched my mom throw a blanket on the flowers, stomping on them.

My dad came in and opened the window. "That was Agent Moyes on the phone. Peter had escaped. We have to get you somewhere safe. But first we have to go to the hospital to check on your brother and Alessia's condition."

"Safe? Where?" The only time that I have felt safe was with my parents.

"Pack whatever you can." He walked around the room checking where he could be hiding in my room. My room isn't big so there was no spot in which he could hide.

Peter must have been watching us for a while. The question for how long had he been planning this?

I went into an anxiety attack and I hunched over to the floor trying to grasp air into my lungs. My mom held me while walking out of the house. A police officer was already outside the house who was waiting for us to leave.

And that was the last time I saw my house. The house I grew up in and didn't know when would be the next time I would be here again.
