mark strolled on the cul-de-sac, basking in the feeling of the westerly cool air brushing over him. he finished his first day of work which went unbelievably well, much to his surprise. he was allowed to leave early because johnny and ten knew how much donghyuck misses him.
the place was unsurprisingly calm, with little to no cars adorning the streets. the sky was a deep black hue, with little specks of stars scattered around, twinkling and giving out a peaceful aura. faint smudges of clouds disappeared into the buildings, and lights brightened the street.
a peaceful silence grew over the calm view...until he heard the sound of a groan.
he turned back to hear lots of groans of pain, and stuff falling down. he noticed the silhouettes of 2 shadows at the back of an alley, and when he looked closer, he immediately registered that it was 2 people beating up a poor victim.
he knew he should not interfere and probably report them to the cops, but something was telling him that this man is really important. the cops will take too long, and he can't let himself live it down if he ever dies in their grasp.
he ran to the scenario and blocked one of the hands moving towards the poor man, which resulted in the perpetrator using his other hand to move switfly towards him, targetting his face. he immediately clutched his wrist and turned it anti-clockwise, which made him squeal in pain.
he turned back to see the next perpetrator heading towards the man. without wasting any time, he kicked him on his shins, knocking his balance out. he swiftly sank down to him and brought his fist out to the side of his head countless times until he was too tired to fight back.
once both threats were subdued, mark turned his head back to the victim, whose face was brimming in gratefulness. he helped him up, haphazardly asking him whether he is alright.
"thank you..." he said as he drooped his head down, tears brimming his eyes. "i honestly thought i was going to die from this..."
"you're more than welcome," mark said, beaming a genuine smile as he did. he took out his phone and started to call the cops, while the victim's expression changed to concerned as he looked left and right.
"alright, we'll come to the scene as fast as we could," the voice spoke out and hung up, making mark's attention divert to the victim, who was still looking for something. "um, is everything alright...?"
"uh...y-yes, but...i was looking for my fiance...those people beat me up when he told me to wait here..." came the reluctant reply.
"what a great fiance indeed," he scoffed nonchalantly.
"no-no, this was not his fault! he didn't do anything..." the blonde said as his head drooped down again. the duo agreed on waiting for a while before looking for him, and it wasn't long before mark lost his patience.
the sound of eerie footsteps caught their attention. they looked over to see a man running towards them- the victim, to be specific, and immediately caught him in an embrace, whispering whether everything's alright with him. "yongie, who did this to you?! why didn't you tell me..."
the blonde, on the other hand was clinging to him, crying softly while burying his face onto his neck, reminiscent of how donghyuck used to cling to him. "i don't know but...he saved me..."
mark decided to leave the couple along until he decided to speak. "thank you so much for saving him. i should have been there for him, why am i like this..."
"uh, it's alright," he reassured him. "you can't always be there for your loved ones, can you?"
"i suppose you're right..." he trailed off, beaming at his fiance who was still clinging to him, crying as he did. "wait a second, i'll call the cops right now-"
