I walk into my building and to the elevators and press the topmost floor. I am a typical CEO except I am not cold with my employees, quite the opposite, they love and respect me. No one enters with me except my assistant, not that I don’t let them, but they give me space. I am a pregnant woman to know.

“Miss jones, you have an appointment at the doctors at 10, meeting with the board at 2, also the contracts and licensing of the new branch overseas are ready, the building is done and the offices are open, the heads of departments have been chosen and interviews for subordinates are being held and. Oh, you haven’t chosen the CEO yet” she says

“Thanks Lily, please seat” I ask nicely

She is my assistant and also my best friend, been with me since we were kids but lost touch until I came back home to Kenya. She nibbles her lip when I ask her to sit, aww, shes nervous. Lily is formal with me at work and super chirpy outside, we have work boundaries unless it is important, she basically has no one besides me, unless you count her horrible aunt from whom she ran when she turned 18.

“Is there something wrong miss Jones?” she asks

“why are you nervous?, I just wanted to ask if youd come with me for the ultrasound. Jesus woman, I am not scary” I say with a laugh

“well, first I’d never miss it if you did not ask, second, you have no idea how scary you can get when at work!” she exclaims

“whatever, you’re the new CEO who’s going overseas, before you say anything listen to me. I know you have nothing here besides bad memories and me of course and yes, you’ll come when the baby is about to be delivered, and I know you never let me down and you’re the smartest person I know with a first class in MBA” I say in a breath

“you’ve already thought up everything haven’t you? When am I leaving?” she smiles

“that went well, you have a week to find me an efficient assistant, you are leaving on Sunday, your house and assistant were taken care of so don’t worry much”

“thanks sis, now, lets get you to the hospital” and with that, we left. Nothing beats a good day like looking forward to seeing your baby inside you.
