Gigi pov
It’s been a while since I left London for Kenya, Chris has shown a couple of times to see his kids, surprisingly he signed the divorce papers.
Our project together is going perfectly, Lilly is doing a good job working with Chris which is a little surprising cause she supposedly hated him but a girl can only relax, at least they don’t want to kill each other while I’m miles away.A month ago I decided to invest in a tourism company, it’s surprisingly picking up real fast. I mean, I may have great source of capital but no one knows it’s mine anyways except the one who is supposedly in charge, and just like the hospital I plan to branch out.
I open the door to have my babies run to me, I’ll never get tired of this reception everyday, having four year olds in the house is hard work but I love it.
My little devils are almost done with preschool and I’m counting on them to bring me literal hell. The girls run up to me and hug the life out me, not literally, when the boys join in I choke out,
“can’t-breathe “ in a playful tone
The ever protective Ray gets off first followed by the others after his ‘raised brow’ look. I know he’s four, I can’t quite figure out how he learned to do that.
“gimme your bag mommy” he says, more like demands. This is the usual routine they got into, Ray takes my bag, Ry my jacket, chaya my shoes and Cheryl being the youngest holds my hand and leads me to room to shower.Martha still takes care of them before and after school, weekends consist of church on Saturday and anything from movies to parks. I have money, why not enjoy it with my babies. Yes, I spoil them, so does their father but I don’t have to justify that to anyone not even myself.
“mommy, take a shower and wear the pwetty dwess on your bed, ok?” Cheryl says once I’m in my room then runs away to their room with a playful giggle.
I know what you’re thinking and yes, I know I’m an adult and should ask why I am to wear a dress in the evening but with four years of learning, my babies will let you know what you are supposed to and nothing remotely extra. They are that good at keeping secrets and interrogating them is pointless.
In an hour, I have showered, dressed, put on make up and cleaned my room. Yes, I have helps but they don’t touch my room unless it is a busy week and I have asked for help. When I leave, the house is unusually quiet not even a peep this only means one thing, they plan on scaring me but I am not falling for it this time. I know I said that the past two years but not today.
I take off my shoes and tip toe towards the sitting room which is well lit as usual but there is no one, up next is kitchen, turns out its empty, “hmm, I wonder where they could be” I mumble walking towards their rooms but nothing. Panic sets in and I start rushing around the house, tears are making me blind as I walk out the backdoor calling for Martha, shoes long forgotten in the house my ands running through my no longer neat up do.
“Please Lord let my children be ok” I say as open the door only to be bombarded with,
“surprise!” from my kids, staff and my ex husband who immediately realizes I’m crying
“umm, Cheryl, did you tell mommy to come to the back yard?” Ry asks with a disappointed face.
“Sowwy mommy, I made you cry” Cheryl says with a broken face
“no baby, I was scared something happened to you, but now I am crying cause I am happy. What’s all this about anyway?” I say hugging them, then turn to Chris who was wiping my tears
“don’t you remember G? “ he asks before turning to the kids “ told you she would forget.”
“what could I possibly have forgotten? The kids birthday is 5 days away which means... oh boy, its my birthday!” I say after checking the calendar on my phone
“happy birthday cutey” Chris says then pecks my check, I smile sweetly then bear hug him, which the kids join.
The staff who I had forgotten were here make their presence known by “aaw” filling my ears and click of pictures taken.
“now that your make up is ruined, do you mind fixing it so we can continue with tonight’s plans?” Chris asks with hope in his eyes, we have fallen comfortable with each other like before but no one has the guts to do more. I wish he could though.
Instead of fixing my make up , I wash it off and just fix my hair Instead then find a pair of sneakers to match the dress. Did I mention its a gift I found on my bed? A cute knee length black skater dress with a plunging cleavage and a lacy top. They match perfectly with my white sneakers. The sneaky bastard remembers my favorite color is black and I ain’t complaining.
I get downstairs and find them waiting for me, I offer them a smile, grab the car keys to the family car and throw them at him, just like my children, asking Chris for details to a surprise is absolutely pointless but usually worth it.
After a 30 minute drive, we get to one of my favorite restaurants in Nairobi. Its never crowded and has great food, Weston hotel is the absolute best for me. We eat and relax while listening to the kids bicker and argue, telling us about their days in school, as I sit here, I realize that this is all I want and need, this family is my ‘IT’ I have no complaints as long as I have my family
On arriving home, I find it decorated with lights and flowers and a birthday burner hanging, a simple birthday cake is on the table and everyone including mama, papa, Ryan, Lilly a few friends, house staff and assistant are all here. We catch up a little and I cut the cake, we all go silent as Chris calls for attention.
“Hey G, I know it’s your day and all but I have a confession. You, the kids make me happier than I could ever ask for, I know I messed up and hurt you and I’ll keep paying for my mistakes for the rest of my life. You are stronger than me, and usually rise despite the challenges you face, I promise to never go back on my word ever if you give me a second chance. Please love, will you do me a huge favor in front of our family and children and accept to be my wife again?”
By the end of his speech, I was smiling at the scene before me as my ex husband and sons knelt while asking me.
“I’m getting tired mommy, that speech was too long” Ray said breaking me from my thoughts, making everyone laugh and ease the tension
“Took you 2 years to ask, of course I’ll give us a second chance” I said accepting the ring and lifting my boys, Chris got up and placed a long sweet kiss on my lipsthen brought the kids in for a hug.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw Lilly giving us a cold look, I smiled brightly at her then turned back to my family.
Let the games begin!!
