A few days later everything seemed set in preparation to raid the first Hydra facility on the list. The commandos were having a briefing with Steve as well as the Colonel and Peggy that morning. If all was planned accordingly then the mission would be undertaken within the next couple of days.

Mo made her way to the Colonel's office but slowed down as she rounded the corner and caught sight of Steve behind some shelving units.

He wasn't alone though. If anything he was literally attached to Private Lorraine by the lips.

Her heart sank a little. It was no surprise though – Steve was a handsome man and Lorraine was one of the prettiest women on the base with her blonde hair and doe eyes.

She took a couple of steps backwards before deciding that perhaps attending the briefing wasn't such a good idea after all. Steve could always tell her the plan later, and now she turned and made for the exit. One of the planes needed a routine check anyway, so she'd do that instead. Anything to take her mind from what she'd just seen.

Was she jealous? She wasn't sure how she felt in all honesty. Mo had never been in love before, nor did she know what it felt like. But the only thing she felt right now was disappointment. Her feelings were muddled and even now as Peggy was calling her as she crossed the base to the hangar she didn't even realise until her sister was by her side.

"You really do have your head in the clouds today! Couldn't you hear me calling?" Peggy asked, following her sister into a hangar.

"Sorry, I've got a lot of things on my mind."

"I thought you were going to the briefing?"

Mo shook her head. "This is more important. Can't have a mission with a plane that fails it's checks. Something's going on with this one anyway, so I need to look into it more before we take it up."

Peggy frowned; her sister was acting strange but sometimes it was better not to press. Mo wasn't exactly a person who'd talk about her feelings. She'd never talked about them at all. The only heart to heart they'd ever really had was over Michael and even then the conversation wasn't a long one. "I'll fill you in on what's said."

"Thanks." Mo replied and kept her focus on finding the tools in the box she now had to hand.

Steve was surprised that Mo hadn't appeared for the briefing. Phillips was more pissed than anything and after Peggy had stated that there was something up with one of the planes they'd simply got on and started the meeting. He couldn't concentrate though.

Once it was over; he went to find her – seeing her up a ladder and leaning into the plane as she fiddled with what he guessed was the control panel. The radio was on, Harry James or so he recognised. She was so engrossed in her work and humming along to the song that she didn't notice him stood watching.

He liked to watch her. Not in a creepy way, but anything she did to him was always interesting.

She was interesting.

Now she caught sight of him and looked a little surprised. "Steve? How long have you been there?"

"Long enough to guess that you like this song?" He smiled lightly as she got down and glanced back at the radio.

"Ah, yes – it's a favourite."

She didn't seem right. Something in her tone seemed a little half hearted. "You weren't at the briefing." He changed the subject.

"Let me guess, You've come to scold me for it."

He shook his head. "Nope. Just thought I'd fill you in on a few things if you've got time?"

She nodded. "Let me close the hangar doors, at least then there's no chance of interruption." And she shut them, making her way back to him and hoisting herself up to sit on one of the crates. "So...what was the outcome?"

"First base will be easy to get there by road, but we need you for surveillance beforehand, just to see what we're working with. Tomorrow evening if possible?" Steve explained.

"Fine by me, just give me the coordinates and I'll get up there."

"Once you report back, we'll be able to see whether there's anything in the surrounding area that we need to take out."

"Is that all?"

Steve crossed his arms, "Pretty much. Next facility is a lot further so it could be a parachute job."

"Monty is your man for that." She smiled and pushed herself off the crate.

"We're, erm...gonna be in the bar tonight – if you wanna join that is?" He now took the chance to ask her. Dugan had all but proclaimed her as his new drinking buddy plus she was the only one who seemed to be able to speak French and translate anything that Jacques was saying.

She got back to work, now making some notes on her clipboard while she looked at one of the wings. "Will Private Lorraine be joining us?"

Shit.

So that was why she seemed distant. She'd obviously seen them.

Steve shook his head. "It's not what you think."

"What or who you do is none of my business Captain." She looked over at him and smiled lightly, then writing down something else.

"She caught me off guard..."

Mo stopped and then put the clipboard down. "Yes, she does that to people." And then sighed. "She's a nice girl, pretty..."

"I've seen prettier." He stared at her. "Looking at one right now."

She glanced at the hangar doors that were still closed and then back at Steve. If anyone were to walk in right now then it would be awkward. "I'm nothing special." She told him.

"You are to me..."

He was in front of her now and Mo's eyes met with his. No man had ever looked at her in the way Steve Rogers did.

Deciding to not waste anymore time than he already had, he leant in and kissed her. Her hands snaking around his neck while his own rested firmly on her waist. Steve knew he had to take chances, take risks – if he waited too long then someone could easily catch her eye and he'd have missed his chance.

"We shouldn't...someone might walk in..." She pulled away and looked back at the doors.

"Tonight then." He said, not knowing how she would take this. If anything was going to develop then they'd need to be discreet about it, but right now she'd either agree to his suggestion or punch him in the face.

To his relief, Mo nodded. "I'll wait until lights out."

They shouldn't be doing it. They both knew that. It was reckless, but at the same time they both couldn't help themselves. Steve didn't care and Mo most certainly didn't either. No one had to know. It would be a hard secret to keep, but they'd just have to try.

All that mattered right now was that he wanted her badly. Damn the consequences.
