Song of the chapter: Homage by Mild High Club.

It was saturday, not particularly her favourite day of the week since she often had to work during the weekends, but it was definitely better than the weekdays where she would have to endure high school for 7 hours a day. Though there were of course perks with some classes, especially the ones attended by her best friend, Peter Parker. He would always make the time pass with his stupid amusing jokes and notes during the lectures. At first the teachers had been furious about the constant chatter but had eventually given up their mission to keep them separated due to her and Peter always keeping their grades up. She found it funny that if they hadn't they might've never put them back in the same classes , though she was sure that Peter would've come up with some creative solution, it was as if his brain went a hundred times faster than everyone else's.
"Helen!", she quickly snapped back from her daily thought process by her manager calling her name. He was quick to point out he was not paying Helen to stand around daydreaming about boys. She had to admit he was not the most forward thinking but he did treat everyone with the equal amount respect, which essentially meant none. The girl went to wipe the several tables at the small café whereshe worked, honestly she had no problem with the manager's lack of respect, in a way she felt it was a comfort knowing that he would always speak his mind about routines and flaws of the shop in order to improve business.
Her attention quickly turned to the door as the bell rang, the girl's face immediately turned into a grin when she noticed Peter entering the door, his untamed brown locks pointing in every direction. His facial expression mirrored hers when he saw her standing by the table in the back corner of the shop.
"Helen, guess what!?", he exclaimed jogging towards her in order to catch the girl in an embrace.
"Peter! Greetings remember!", she laughed at his inability to properly say hello before going on about his current hobbies.
"Oh, sorry right hello, so guess what?", he repeated playfully rolling his eyes.
"Alright what's so important you can't even be bothered to say hi?", Helen chuckled. He would often forget phrases while talking to her as if he did not have enough time to wait to tell the girl everything on his mind , in hindsight she thought it to be kind of sweet that he didn't want to waste his time with common greeting phrases when partaking their conversations.
"Riight, well anyway so I finally got the Lego Death Star so I was thinking let's go build it since your shift should be over any minute now right?", she smiled, he'd always remember her work schedule in order to maximise their time together during weekends.
" no way! You found it? I just gotta punch out then let's go master the Death Star!"
...
They were sitting in front of each other focusing solely on the lego in front of them, Helen knew it seemed lame in the eyes of others but they both really enjoyed this activity, She guessed that's why their classmates considered them the school dorks. After a while Helen noticed Peter's eyes focusing on her.
"Peter ", Peter quickly refocused on the Lego.
"Mhm", he mumbled once again looking in front of him.
"Should we take a break? We're not making any progress with you staring at me." , She said sarcastically throwing her hands in the air.
"Pfft, I-I wasn't staring, but yeah let's!", he made a face at her sticking his tongue out.
They booth went to lay down on his bed facing the ceiling, they'd done this since they were kids, laying next to each other discussing everything and nothing. This time there was a silence though, not sure why. Suddenly Helen felt Peter turn her way so she did the same facing him, he looked deep in thought as if he really wanted to say something.
"Listen, there's something I need to tell you...", his face showed a look of worry and maybe a hint if nervousness. Now, this is was not the first time they had had a serious talk, they would have them all the time, like the time his parents disappeared which of course was the reason he had to move in with his Aunt May or the time she had found out about her mother's passing. However this felt like something different, like it was something about himself which was unusual since she already knew pretty much everything there was to know about him. Helen took his hand and squeezed it as a sign for him to continue, they would usually let the other finish speaking before chiming in, they were similar in that way.
"You know how I disappeared at the party...", her mind went back to the party. Anne had invited everyone from school, even Helen and Peter, which was odd since they pretty much never hung out with anyone else. The two friends were having a pretty good time drinking some punch that was definitely not suitable for high school juniors. She had excused herself to go to the bathroom and when the girl got back Peter had completely disappeared leaving her alone with a bunch of strangers which made her feel anxious. Sure she had eventually made some acquaintances but still felt disappointed that Peter had left so suddenly.
"You mean when you completely ditched me leaving me with a bunch of strangers, yeah.", She knew it was a petty thing to say but Helen was still a little bit hurt although She'd almost gotten over it already.
"Yeah, sorry about that, well anyway I didn't really run of cause I was sick.", Helen wasn't surprised, she could tell he was not being truthful when he had told her a few days after the party that he'd been feeling sick and that had been the reason for him leaving so suddenly.
"Why did you leave then?", Helen asked, wondering if he was actually going t0 tell her the truth.
"I'm spider-man", her eyes widened, did she hear that correctly?
"Yeah, that seems plausible...", the girl chuckled, her best friend was not spider-man , no way.
"Well it's true, remember the internship at stark industries?", now that did ring a bell, a few months ago they had barely had any time to hang out because of this supposed internship, however She did not think this meant he was spider-man the guy who had saved her from falling from a three story building's elevator shaft.
"Peter you're 17.", this was probably just the girl being in denial but she could not help it, no way did he have time to save people while also being a grade A student.
"Yeah so?", he seemed a bit disappointed in Helen's distrusting answers but I made nothing of it.
"No way you're spider-man.", she stated still in denial as she stood up from the bed.
"Yes way!", he said sternly making her just a little bit less sceptical.
" Alright, then prove it!", Helen said half jokingly because regardless of her own doubts he seemed serious.
As she looked away Helen felt something on her waist pulling the girl back and spinning her towards the bed where tom was now sitting up with his legs on the ground and his arm stretched out towards the girl. She stopped spinning right as peter caught Helen in his arms. She looked down at her waist in shock noticing the web clinging to it. Helen's eyes traveled back up until they met the familiar dark brown eyes belonging to Peter. He looked deep into her eyes as she stared back in disbelief. He started to lean in when a familiar voice rang from the kitchen making them both jump back.
"Helen! Peter! Dinner is ready!", Aunt May's voice echoed through the small apartment as they stood up making their way towards the kitchen where Aunt May had apparently been preparing dinner.
Peter Parker was spider-man.
