why did i have a dream last night that rosa died and i was the one to tell everyone and then when i finally got everyone quiet (yk what they're like) rosa appeared like what's going on and i was so confused

----------

It was my first day as Captain in the 99. I knew the crew was going to hate me and i was prepared for that, they'd already got rid of a few of Holt's replacements.

I told myself nothing was personal, and if i ever felt overwhelmed i had to remember that. Taking a deep breath, i walked into the precinct. Everyone's eyes were on me, and i stopped before i fully entered the bullpen, "hey guys, i'm your new captain, Yn Yln, it's good to meet you all!"

Everyone introduced themselves except one, but i let it go; he was sat at his desk, feet up, i didn't feel like interrupting whatever he was doing. He was clearly the office badass.

"I wanna ask you all to meet in the breifing room in ten minutes, you guys can ask me anything you need to and i can get to know everyone a little," i announced, then i walked into my new office.

Everyone was ready in the breifing room and first i went over to the guy i hadn't spoken to earlier, "i'm Yn, it's good to be here."

"Wish i could say the same," he shrugged, slouching back into his chair, kicking his feet onto the table in front of him, "i'm Chuck."

I smirked at him, knowing exactly what he was going to be like to work with, but i just went to the front to talk to them all. "I know that you probably all hate me for replacing your Captain, høwever i think we can make this work. No matter what you guys do, however, i will not be leaving like the others did, you need a captain and i'm here to fill that role until Captain Holt is back. Does anyone have any questions?"

The team seemed alright, and i wasn't sure if they'd realised their mistake last time and were being nice, or they were being nice as an act. The only one not actively talking was Chuck.

A couple times his friend tried to prompt him to speak, leading in an eye roll and a reluctant answer,  but eventually he snapped at Jake, "i don't wanna answer these stupid questions, i don't care about the new freakin' captain!"

"Charles, what the hell, dude?" Peralta sighed.

"It's okay, he's not obligated to care," i jumped in, "as long as he knows he's stuck with me for the forseeable future."

"Yeah, you mentioned that," Chuck told me patronisingly, though i just laughed - it was the best way to diffuse situations like that to save him from getting worked up.

---

As it neared the end of the day, there was a knock on my door, "come in." I'd told them all i wasn't going to intefere with any ongoing cases, but if they needed anything to let me know. The last person i expected to walk into my office was Chuck.

"I wanted to apologize," he told me, "Jake said i was an ass earlier."

"No need," i looked up at him, "say what you want, it doesn't change why i'm here."

"Why are you here?" he crossed his arms.

"To be your captain until Holt gets his position back."

"How do we know you'll step down when his officer duty ends?" he frowned.

I smirked at him, "you don't."

He glared at me, "you bitch."

"You don't know the half of it, Chuckie," i tilted my head, winking at him teasingly.

"Chuckie, huh?" he crossed his arms.

"Yep. Problem?"

He glared at me and was about to speak when there was a knock on the door, followed by Jake's voice, "hey, new Cap?"

"Yeah, come in," i called.

He walked in and crossed his arms, "Captain, Santiago and i can't decide who gets this case."

"Who was it assigned to?" i raised a brow.

"Both of us, but now one of us needs to take this new case that Terry assigned us, and we both kinda wanna keep the original case."

"Can't Terry help you decide?"

"He refused, because apparently we were acting like children."

I chuckled a little, "bring me both files, please."

Amy walked in immediately with them and put them on my desk.

"Thank you," i nodded, "i'll read through them both and let you know. This is the original case, yes?" i pointed at one of them and the two of them nodded.

"I'll let you both know," i told them, and i turned to Chuck once they'd left, "do you know about this original case?"

He nodded, "Jake has been following that guy for about two years."

I flicked through the second file, "house robbery, i can see why they both want the original one."

He went to say something and stopped himself, "you want me to give it to Jake, don't you?"

"Honestly? Yes."

"That'll cost you," i smirked.

"Done," he shrugged, "you want a date?"

"Sure," i nodded, "pick me up at 7."

I wrote down my address and number and slid it over to him. It went into his pocket without a look. I smirked to myself, though stood up and grabbed the files.

"Dismissed. See you at 7."

"If you're lucky," he said as he left. Biting my lip slightly, i left my office and dropped the files on Santiago and Peralta's desks. Jake smiled up at me, "thanks, Captain, i really appreciate it."

"Thank your friend," i nodded at Chuck.

"Even as a badass, he's still up your ass," i heard Amy mumble as i went back to my office.

"You wish," Chuck shook his head as they all grabbed their things to leave.
