Y/N POV
I walk back to the room full of party people and children. Still fuming I reflect on the conversation I just had. Or was it more some kind of monologue? A small wave of guilt rolls over me and I suggest a way to excuse myself for growing that loud.
But not now! I really want to enjoy my time, it's the first party we attend since our parents death. Looking through the mass of people, searching for nothing in particular, I notice my little brother Cálido in the middle of the dance floor. Dancing with a girl! She's a bit taller and has beautiful brown hair tied up in a bun. Wait... isn't this Luisa? "How the hell did he do that?", I think to myself. But to be honest he doesn't look pretty happy about it. She swings him around in her arms and he doesn't stand a chance, since he's not as strong. But still... I really wish I could have someone to dance with. Since my brothers are no options, I'm all alone.
For a second I ask myself if Álvaro would like to dance with me. We didn't have a good spin together since my last birthday which was months ago. I don't even realize as I start moving around, still deep in my thoughts.Strolling through the casita and watching flowers grow all around me, my thoughts wander back to Camilo. Seems like I'm more impressed by him than I like. I sigh in disbelief. How on earth could someone fall that fast? Especially with a person they don't know? And even if I would know him.. I guess he has other interests than an unseen girl like I am. That other day at the market place I heard some girls talking about the amazing Camilo Madrigal, who is always flirty with the girls in town. His Abuela already is worried he'll never be serious enough for marriage, they told me. I sigh again, hoping my thoughts would drift somewhere else. It's not healthy for me to concentrate all the time on his cute face and the good looks he has.
Aaggh! I run my hand along the wall and look up at the sky. The moon is high above me and smiles kindly into the night. In the background I notice a beautiful song played on the piano. Looking around no one seems to catch sight of me so I start to swirl my arms around me and move my feet over the ground. Dancing the dark clouds in my head away I sing along to the beautiful song. Around me, it was all silent until I hear someone chuckle. I stop immediately to see who was there.
Looking up to the railing, Camilo stands some meters above me. His grin is wide and his eyes seem to absorb the light from the candles. I could stare into those eyes for hours. Wait, stop! Did he watch me the whole time dancing around like crazy? His head lays in his arms and as if he could read my mind he states:" You have a beautiful voice, mi hermosa. And I like the way you dance on your own, that's different."I smile over all those compliments and can't avoid blushing a little.
Yet again before we could really talk someone clears his throat. I turn around to see Álvaro standing beside me with crossed arms and a stern look. "Oh dios, por favor no", I whisper and roll my eyes. He looks at Camilo and me and scolds: "You two shouldn't be alone out here. People talk a lot in our small village, you know?" Slowly Camilo walks down to stop in front of Álvaro. "Anything you want to say, Chico?", his voice no more than a breath.
Before the middle one has the chance to make the same mistake as Cálido some minutes ago, a wildly waving Dolores draws my attention. "Hey Camilo, isn't it your sister?", I ask when she reaches us and he nods. Now in front of us stands a completely distraught mother with panic written all over her face. "Camilo! Exactly who I was searching for! Pedro is on the roof and is too scared to come down! Isa already tried everything but he asks for you, we need your help!"Camilo, still beside me, puts an apologetic hand on my shoulder and disappears with a straight face. "Better this way", Álvaro utters and I'm boiling again with anger. "Álavro Martínez, DON'T you even dare do this again! I already told Cálido: I don't need to be protected, I am old enough to choose who I want to spend time with and...!", I start to growl but be interrupted before my inner volcano can erupt.
Out of nowhere, another Madrigal stands in front of us, holding up a hand to greet.
"Hola, I think we didn't meet before, right? My name's Maribel. You're new here, I suppose?"
She shakes the hand of a surprised Álvaro who just gets a yes out. He seems to want to ask a question but the quirky Mirabel doesn't let go of his hand and with the words "I'll show you around!" she escorts him away.Somewhat amused I look after them and go in the opposite direction. With the silence, I sigh again. Okay, but that was the last time for today! Otherwise I'll get depressed or something. Maybe I should head back to the party, I don't wanna miss out on something.
So I finish my house tour all alone, stopping at the last door I come along. It's Camilo's door in a pleasing golden light. The motif shown on it I'm very keen on. In silence I pass the picture. A Madrigal that I hardly know but arouses all my interests.
I decide to return to Pedros room when unexpectedly one of those toucans flys right on top of my head to snap one of my hairbands. "Hey!", is all I can say in surprise. I try to catch up with the bird and run up the stairs, following him with my gaze. The last stairs bring me to the top of the roof, but I wasn't alone. The bird is sitting on Antonios arm, next to him his big sister, Isa and... Camilo, of course. In my mind, I roll my eyes at this fateful coincidence.
"Perdón, I didn't mean to interrupt!", I excuse myself politely. "No no, don't worry y/n. I just wanted you to have some alone time with my brother", Dolores says smirking as she pats Camilo on his head,"you know, he's sometimes a bit too stupid to handle his feelings."
"Hey!", Camilo exclaims hurt but when I begin to laugh, he smiles again. This very cute smile...
"Oh okay, they already start to stare at each other like sheep's, let's go guys!", Isa rushes down the stairs, followed by Toni who hands me the hair band back with a beam. Finally Dolores stops next to me whispering:" We took care of your brothers but don't take too long. And please don't break Milos heart, he's a lovely guy." Mouthing a "thank you" I turn around to see her wink at Camilo who blushes even more. After several minutes pass with slightly embarrassed looking to the ground, Camilo takes two steps up to me and holds out his hand. "Would you... like to dance?", he asks shy and again I lose myself in his handsome face. He clears his throat and I take his hand to tell him:"I would love to!"
He happily guides me to a cute tower with a small balcony where we climb up and stop to glance at each other.
I awkwardly place my hands in his shoulders and just then I realize, I cannot really dance. Alone, in our garden, totally unseen, that's no problem. But up here with Camilo? This thought spreads a warm feeling inside me and my heart begins to race.
"Camilo?", I ask now more shyly. "Yes, mi querida?", he asks back as quietly as I do, looking down at me expectantly. "I... um... well, I might not know how to dance with a partner...", I whisper, embarrassed. I wish I could sink into the ground, Camilo gives me a mischievous smile and wraps his hands around my waist."It's very simple, senorita," he explains, pulling me towards him. Our noses are only a few centimeters apart and all of his shyness is suddenly gone.
"I lead. You move with me. If I take a step to the right, you take a step to the left, like this?" he says, taking a step to the right. I do as I was told and step to the left.
"Ay!" he hisses plainly. I may have stepped on one of his toes and I'm chuckling under my breath, which I've been holding unnoticed until just now. Probably because of the closeness to him. Camilo laughs and tries again. This time I understand and look at him excitedly. "Okay, go on!" I urge. Now I really want to learn the steps, it's my first time dancing with a young man! His grin gets bigger and his self-confidence increases.
"Step forward with your right when I step back with my left. Those are the basic steps," he continues and tries to implement it directly with me. Unfortunately, I mix up the sides and walk between his legs. Camilo stumbles backwards and because he's still holding my waist he pulls me with him.
After the first shock I open my eyes to regard a laughing Camilo. Still holding me tight onto him, he brushes a strand of hair out of my face. "Shit, he's so pretty!", my mind is running wild while we just stare at each other. His hand is still on my cheek. My breath stops. Only now do I realize how close we are. He doesn't seem to mind and begins again to laugh. "We should practice more, mi flor. You can't go out dancing like this", he jokes. "Says the right one!", I get up and turn away so he doesn't see my red cheeks due to the mistake, "Maybe we should stop the lessons for today."
