A/N: low key shocked I've gotten this far into the story and there is still barely a romantic connection between MJ and Peter LMAO.
Also sorry that it took me so long to update! I didn't realize it's been a few months 💀
also also, we may be seeing a new MJ that's not in the movies shows or comics in the next chapter :) not like i was really going for any MJ other than her name 💀MJ
The next day...
MJ walked down the side walk as she made her way home, her feet aching from walking so much that she probably had gotten a few blisters.
Eddie had started to grow on MJ, frequently finding herself near the coffee stand talking to him rather than working. The same went for Peter, which only ended up with her being confused about who she liked more.
Today she hadn't been given much, but while on her way home she decided to go into a museum. One she had frequently visited since she started working at the Daily Bugle.
The woman there was kind, her eyes showed age and such wisdom that you'd think she was older, but she didn't have a single wrinkle other than when she smiled.
"Mary Jane." Katra smiled softly, her Greek accent seemed to get heavier with each day that MJ appeared. She stood up from the receptionist desk, her heels clicking as she walked over to greet the younger girl.
"Hello, Katra. Just stopping in again." Katra sighed quietly as she shook her head softly, gesturing towards the door.
"I apologize, Mary Jane, but I have a very wealthy man coming in soon that would prefer if no one else were here while he makes a deal." MJ raised a brow in suspicion as she nodded.
"That's alright. I'll just stop by tomorrow, if that's okay?" She asked as Katra smiled, nodding.
"You are always welcome here, dear." MJ waved goodbye to Katra just as a very expensive looking car parked in front of the museum, MJ quick to leave and duck into the alleyway.
Her eyes peered at the car as she watched a man step out and open the back door, a much man in a black suit standing up.
MJ's eyes widened as she recognized who the person was, watching him walk into the museum. Without another second to waste after the car drove off, MJ pulled out her phone, sneaking towards the large windows.
MJ peeked in through the glass, her hands home recording everything as she watched Katra interact with him, no fear or confusion. Simply acting like he was a normal customer.
MJ snapped pictures as she was recording, glaring through her phone screen as she watched the two walk deeper into the museum and out of sight.
MJ huffed quietly, ending the recording as she snuck into the museum, crouching and walking around in hopes she wouldn't be spotted.
"—now it's much different from what you're used to, sir. But I assure you it will look beautiful in your home." Katra said from afar as MJ peeked from behind a display case, watching as the two looked at a large painting.
MJ raised her phone up, shutting off the ringer as she snapped a picture, ducking back under to look at the pictures.
"A museum is the first place you go?" MJ muttered to herself, looking behind her to see Katra had disappeared with him.
MJ's phone suddenly buzzed, causing her to flinch hard. Peter's name popped up onto the screen, and for a moment, MJ was going to answer. But she just let it ring through, acting like she didn't know he was calling since she felt like just declining the call was too much.
Her phone started buzzing again as Peter called, this time she had declined it as she got closer and closer to the back of the museum.
"Now this is our most expensive artwork. 7.8 million dollars. It was gifted to my family many years ago by a French artist. And by many years ago... I mean many, many years ago. This art has been prone to attracting thieves." Katra spoke as MJ peered around the corner. They stood in front of a larger painting than before, it's colors mixing together in a sunset tone, trees so finely detailed they looked real. A deer was in the middle of it all, turning back to look at whoever saw the painting.
"It's beautiful." His familiar voice rang in MJ's ears, though he sounded more mature than the last time they saw one another.
"It truly is a beautiful piece of work. I've been trying to sell it for a long time, but they always return it after only a week." Katra's hand reached for the deer, her finger barely grazing it before her hand dropped.
"Do you have any sculptures or... more older works?" He asked as Katra turned around, MJ quickly ducking back behind the wall.
"Yes. We have the rusting dagger from long before Colombus... 'discovered' America." Katra smiled distastefully. MJ pulled out her phone, facing her camera towards her to see what they were doing.
Slowly standing up, MJ started to make a quiet run towards the door, slamming into it when it didn't open.
"Oh no." She muttered, wiggling the door before spinning around, thinking they must have locked it as she snuck in. The question was now... How did she get out?
Maybe there was a spare key in Katra's office. And if not, then maybe she could call the police, since the guy Katra was selling to was on the run at the moment. But why the hell would he stop at a museum?
MJ's eyes scanned the museum around her before she bolted to one side, hoping to find Katra's office on that side.
Before she could make any more moves, she turned to see a new display shining down a hallway. It looked like it was just a simple door with a bolted lock, grabbing her attention, and slowly made her way to the door.
"What about that? Over there?" MJ ducked behind a wall as Katra and the man walked over to the door.
"My apologies, but I'm afraid that the thing behind this door is only for display. It shouldn't be sold to anyone." Katra said as the man nodded slowly, the two continuing to walk.
MJ peeked her head out, staring at the door with even more curiosity. But now it was a decision of being a cat, or being an escape artist.
Maybe an escape artist cat.
