"So I'll destroy you, me, everything!"
A mega cataclysm made it's way toward Marinette, the white ball of unleashed destructive energy nearly blinding her. She went to jump out of the way, only to find she couldn't move."No! Stop, please! This isn't you Chat Noir, whatever happened we can fix it together. Just let me help you!" She braced herself for impact, the light was blinding now. Then it all stopped. She looked up in confusion, spotting the cause of her near demise; Chat Blanc.
He was walking towards her slowly, frowning. His eyes were flat and icy, no hint of their usual warmth left. He stopped in front of her, eyeing her from his tall stature. She met his gaze, giving a silent plea for redemption. His eyes softened, and he brought a white leather-clad glove to rest on her cheek.
"You know," he began, dragging his words. "You really should've thought of that before he had a chance to put us through all of this." His expression became one of pure rage, and his pupils were mere slits.
Without warning, he ripped his hand back from her face, now holding a cataclysm, he thrust it forward onto her chest.
"Goodbye, MARINETTE!"
"Marinette?" Marinette jolted awake, jumping to her feet so quickly that the whole class snapped their attention over to her at once. Her hands had slammed down on her desk so hard they stung. She took in her surroundings, shrinking shakily back into her seat by Alya. After a confused and irritated Mme Bustier turned back around with a lighthearted shake of her head, everyone calmed themselves again.
"Marinette?" Alya spoke lower this time, "What was that all about?"
Marinette slowed her breathing, shaking off the embarrassment. "It was nothing, I um, I guess I was just startled when you woke me up."
Alya just chuckled, elbowing her best friend. "I see, well just don't let your dreams get too out of hand at school, hm? You seemed pretty restless for someone sleeping in class."
Marinette rolled her eyes, pausing and raising a questioning brow at Alya. "Hey, why did you wake me up anyways?"
"You were mumbling and you seemed upset. I figured you were having a bad dream or something," Alya shrugged nonchalantly.
"Uh-huh..." Marinette laid her head back down on the desk, feeling drained. She dozed off a little only to be woken by the bell after a few moments. Grumbling and getting her things together, she headed down the stairs toward the locker room.
...
Adrien had been a bit startled when Marinette slammed her hands on the desk behind him, in fact, she had scared the living daylights out of him.
He wanted to turn around to see if she was okay but heard low murmurs behind him so he decided it would be better to not bother.
After everything was settled, he couldn't help but feel someone was staring at him. Slowly turning his head, he looked over to see Chloe in a daze looking at him with admiration in her sky blue eyes. He knew how Chloe felt about him but he just couldn't feel the same way. He knew she truly only wanted to be with him for his wealth while he longed for something real.
After hearing the bell ring, Chloe looked away to yell at Sabrina for something like not packing her bag for her. Adrien, however, was relieved that she wasn't staring at him anymore.
Mme Bustier was attempting to tell the students about tomorrow's homework, but being ignored without a second thought. Adrien tried to pay attention and pack his bag at the same time, but he was distracted watching Alya and Marinette walk out of the classroom together. He had to ask if she was okay.
Just missing them, he raced down the steps to the locker room, deciding it was safe to assume that was where they had disappeared to.
Adrien pushed through the double doors, spotting the girls at Alya's locker, Marinette next to her with a textbook in hand. He walked up to them as quickly as his long legs would permit him, nearly tripping over himself in the process.
By the time he got to them, however, they were already leaving for their separate classes. Neither the girls nor Adrien saw each other coming, they were all in such a hurry.
Marinette crashed straight into the blonde's chest, textbook and papers hitting the floor.
"Oh my- Adrien, I'm so sorry! I wasn't looking where I was going and then you were there right when I looked up and-"
"Marinette, it's okay," Adrien chuckled, "I honestly wasn't paying attention either, if anything I'm to blame."
Marinette bent down to pick up her textbook and papers, carefully avoiding his gaze. Adrien leaned down to help her, slightly amused at how easily flustered she was. He began picking up most of the papers while she went for her textbook and any notes that had escaped his reach.
After all of her work was collected, they both stood up, a shy Marinette gratefully accepting the papers from Adrien. He was about to ask her about earlier when something resembling the sound of a banshee interrupted him.
"ADRIKINS! There you are, I thought I lost you! You weren't in your next class, and I figured that would be the only reason you'd leave me unless something was wrong. And I was right! Something is wrong. You're hanging with the likes of Dupain-Cheng!" Chloe looked like a volcano ready to erupt, her eyes narrowing when they met Marinette's.
The raven-haired girl stared back, raising her eyebrows in an unamused fashion. "Chloe, if you would keep better track of what actually belongs to you, then you wouldn't tire yourself out chasing someone who wants nothing to do with you."
Chloe scoffed, recovering quickly enough to send an insult back, "Big talk for someone who doesn't even spend any time with my Adrikins, I don't even know why he would enter the room with all that baker stench!"
Marinette raised an eyebrow. "I'm standing here with him now, aren't I? Oh, Chloe, all that money spent on designer shoes and purses, maybe your daddy should have bought you better insults."
Adrien noticed Alya snickering from behind Marinette, holding her phone up in front her, likely getting the big scoop for any of their classmates missing it. Adrien just stood there helplessly, he didn't know if he should jump in or not. He had to admit, he was a little amused listening to the girls. It wasn't often Marinette showed confidence and wit around him, they were two of his favorite traits that he had seen in her.
As for her comment about him no wanting anything to do with Chloe...Well, that wasn't entirely true. He had to admit, though, that there was more truth to it than he would say. He felt bad when it came to people like Chloe, she didn't have any real friends so she went after the people she saw fit to be with her. Unfortunately for him, he was one of those people. He was slightly more inclined to comply only because he felt he owed her that much, being his first friend and all.
Chloe looked as if she were on fire by now. Her face was pinched in an expression of fury. Marinette seemed to register this and decided it was time to take her leave. Chloe was about to follow her, likely coming up with a revenge plan when Marinette was saved by the bell, literally.
Adrien waved goodbye to the girls, still a bit disappointed that he hadn't been able to speak with Marinette. He headed up to class, normally perfect posture slightly slouched. Later, he thought, I'll have to speak with her later.
