I felt relieved as I stepped off the elevator. I was happy to be back at the compound and surrounded by people who acted like a family. Not the facade of a family. I had to deal with going home to visit my family as I had done last week for my father's birthday. The whole ordeal had mentally and emotionally exhausted me.

I made a quick stop in my suite to drop off my bags and change into my comfortable clothes before I went to see the others. It was close to the normal time we gathered for dinner so everyone should be on the communal area floor.

When I entered the communal area, I saw everyone dispersed around the open floor plan that contained the living room, kitchen, and informal dining area. The sight brought a smile to my face. You were home again.

Tony was the first to spot me as you ventured further into the area. "There you are Mia, just in time for dinner. Need a drink," Tony offered knowing about the strained relationship with my family.

"Hell yes to the drink," I laughed while hurrying behind Tony to the bar.

As I took my glass from Tony the other's said their greetings as well. I joined Natasha and Wanda in the kitchen as they prepared dinner for everyone. I jumped into helping them needing something to distract me from the events of the last week. I didn't really want to think about it, but I knew it was inevitable because soon the questions would begin about my visit.

I stirred the sauce that Natasha had started and began to boil the pasta. I listened to the girl's chatter about the things they had recently gotten while they had been out shopping. We also planned to go out for a girl's day now that I was back as well while we continued to prepare dinner.

Soon enough we had all the food ready, and everyone filed in to fix their plates. The three of us girls made our plates first since we had cooked. Once I had my plate, I took my normal seat across from Nat and Wanda. Soon the others filed to the table, and I had Thor and Loki on either side of me, Tony was at the head of the table, Clint was next to Nat, Vision was beside Wanda, Bruce was between Thor and Tony, Peter was between Tony and Steve, Steve was next to Vision with Bucky beside him, and Sam was next to Bucky. This was my family.

I began eating as the conversation began at the table. I was happily engrossed in my pasta when Sam finally asked the ill-fated question. The whole table grew silent and looked at me. I took a deep breath before I set my cutlery down to tell them the story of visiting my family.

"It was absolutely horrible, and I have to go back in a month for my cousin's wedding. That will especially be awkward now that I broke up with Adam while I was there, and I don't have a date now. My parents weren't happy about that at all and said I was making a mistake leaving a man who was set to inherit such a large fortune with his grandfather's companies," I began as I grabbed my glass of wine, taking a pause for a sip. Everyone kept their eyes on me politely waiting for me to continue.

"Then my mother lectured me about not being married yet like my sisters. I need to hurry and find a husband before I lose my youth and can't find a handsome man to marry. Then she proceeded to tell me how much of a failure I am as a woman since I'm not wed and have no children, that at twenty-five I should be at home taking care of a family," I snorted as I downed the rest of my glass of wine.

The group didn't know much about my family, or my past for that matter. The only ones who knew the whole story were Tony and Fury. It's not that I was hiding it, I just didn't like talking about it. While I was entitled to a life of luxury it was anything but easy growing up.

Both of my parents came from old money and never had to worry about anything. I had everything I could ever want. Though nothing I did ever pleased my parents. I could win a beauty pageant and they would still find things to criticize me for, which they had done on several occasions. They were disappointed that I didn't turn out like my sisters who were proper "Davenport women."

The first to speak was Natasha after I told my family about what happened. "Well, you know you have us. We are always here for you," she offered with a smile.

"Absolutely, we are your family," Wanda added soothingly. "So, what are you going to do about your date for the wedding," she inquired as she continued to eat.

I looked at her dumbfounded. I hadn't really even thought about that. I was too wrapped up in everything else.

"I have no idea," I groaned, rubbing a hand over my face. "I can't just take anyone either," I whined, throwing my head back and sinking down into my chair.

"Well what kind of man do you need for this event. One of us could take you," Tony asked, trying to help the situation.

I looked at him with a raised brow as I sat back up in my chair. "Well, it's a black-tie wedding, a rich and haughty event. I need someone who can fit in with old money. Though it would be nice to have someone to act like my boyfriend to get my family off my back. If only to at least defend me against them, it would be nice to have someone in my corner for once. Though they have to do it in a way that isn't in your face rude," I explained while I thought about the qualities I needed in my date for this wedding.

I watched as Tony scratched his chin and looked around the table. I could tell he was trying to think of a solution for me. It made me nervous to see what his brain would produce.

"Now hear me out Mia," Tony began holding his hands up. "I can't go because well I'm engaged to Pepper. Unfortunately, Steve is too awkward while Bucky and Sam would stick out like sore thumbs. I don't think it's a clever idea to put Bruce in that situation because of the big guy. Also, Peter is too young, he's still in high school. Then Clint is married and well Vision is with Wanda and not suited for that type of thing," Tony began trailing off. I knew where this was leading him to. The only two left were sitting on either side of me.

I looked at Tony with a nervous look before he continued. "So that leaves us with two literal princes. Though honestly, Thor is not black-tie type either. That leads me to Loki. Honestly with his ability to twist words and be charming, he would fit right in."

I noticed Loki turning his head to look at Tony as I looked at him with my mouth agape. It wasn't that I didn't like Loki, he just made me nervous. Since he came back to Earth to serve his punishment, he had been nothing but cordial with me. He rarely spoke to anyone, though I was one of the few he did speak to at times other than Thor.

It also didn't help that he was ridiculously attractive, and I may have a small crush on him. Well not a small crush, a huge secret crush that I told no one about. I had been in a relationship when he came to the tower, and I didn't see myself as someone Loki would want to be with. He was a prince while I was just a mortal with rich parents.

"Tony has a good point," Steve spoke up first to break the silence.

I turned to look at Loki as the blush rose in my cheeks. He was looking at me with a small smirk on his face. If I had to fake being in a relationship with someone, I definitely wouldn't mind it being the incredibly attractive god sitting beside me.

"Well darling, what do you say," Loki finally spoke up as he rested his chin in his hand while looking at me. That stupidly adorable smirk still on his face.

"Only if you want to, you don't have to," I said quietly, not able to look him in the eyes due to my nerves.

"Oh darling, this sounds like my kind of fun, I am the God of Mischief after all. I'll even wager with you that I can convince your parents that I'm a far better choice than that ex-boyfriend of yours," he said with a sly smile.

I thought it over for a moment. If he could convince my parents that he was better than Adam, and they knew how close we were together with us being at the tower, and the fact it was known he was a prince my parents may actually leave me alone. It was a plan that was too good to be true. It was my only real option though unless I wanted to deal with going alone.

I looked at Tony who just stared back before looking at Wanda and Natasha. They both gave me encouraging looks. I finally looked at Loki who was still watching me intently as I had an inner battle.

I took a deep breath knowing my answer. "Okay, let's do it."
