It was a perfect day as Loki drove the car Tony had lent us for the trip. The closer we got to the beach house the more nervous I became. This whole facade would finally be put to the test. I just hoped that we were able to pull this off.
For the last week Loki and I had been acting as a couple to get used to it. We were spending a week with my family, so I suggested it. I wanted us to look natural around my family while we put on this act. Surprisingly enough to me, Loki had agreed.
For the last week he greeted me each morning in the kitchen with a cup of coffee and a light kiss to the top of my head. I would return to affection by wrapping my free arm around his waist and nuzzling my head into his chest. When we were around the compound, we would share a couch and cuddle while watching TV. At dinner I would fix Loki's plate. When we were in public, we held hands. Even the team told us we were convincing, and cute together.
I held no expectations for this to continue after this week finished. Although I would be a liar if I said I wouldn't miss the affection. He made me feel a way that Adam never had. Being around Loki made me feel safe and I got butterflies each time he would press a kiss to my cheek or forehead. We had yet to actually kiss, but I hoped for it.
"Are you alright darling," Loki questioned me as he parked the car. I turned my head to see he had a look of concern as he studied me.
I took a deep breath, shook my head, and got out of the car. We didn't bother with our bags right now since there would be time later. As we approached the house, I noticed my mother and aunts watching us from the large front window. Loki noticed as well and wrapped an arm around my waist and dropped a kiss to the top of my head making me smile.
"Thank you, Loki," I whispered as we reached the door.
Before I could open the door Loki stopped me and turned me to look at him. He put a finger under my chin lifting it to look at him. "It will be fine. We will get through this. I will act the part of a loving partner more now we are here to make it as convincing as possible. If I do anything that makes you uncomfortable, please say something," Loki advised me softly and kissed my forehead and I nodded silently.
I pushed the door open, and we stepped into the lion's den. Almost immediately I was surrounded by my nieces and nephews. They were the only thing I did like about my family. I stooped down to their level and hugged all of them as Loki stood off to the side observing me. I loved these kids, and they made my visits a little more bearable.
"Aunt Amelia, who is your friend," my niece Laura asked, referring to Loki as she looked at him shyly.
I gave her a sweet smile and looked back at Loki. "Laura, this is Aunt Mia's boyfriend Loki. Can you say hello," I urged her as she studied Loki?
I didn't blame her for being shy. Loki was an intimidating figure, though the small smile he wore currently made up for his large stature. After a moment Laura mumbled a soft "hello" to Loki before she buried her head in my neck.
"Aunt Mia, I thought you were going to marry Adam. Is Loki going to be your husband now," Jack, my nephew, asked me. The question caught me off guard and caused a blush to rise. I was lost on how to answer him.
I watched as Loki leaned down and smiled at Jack. "Maybe one day I will be the lucky man to marry your aunt. I hope I am," Loki told Jack with a small smile and a wink as he glanced at me. I gave him a reassuring smile letting him know what he said was ok.
With the kids' curiosity cured the kids ran off back into the house. I grabbed Loki's hand and led him to the formal living room where my mother and aunts currently were. Before we walked in, I felt Loki gently squeeze my hand as if to remind me he was there.
