AN ; finally getting to actual conversations between reader and dave mann. don't worry guys it only took four chapters 🥴

The two of you had just ordered your drinks before any food, wanting so see if the restaurant Jeremy had provided the two of you actually had good service. Dave sat in his seat with a tense posture, straight backed and a drop of sweat falling down his face as you settled into your seat quite nicely.

He had spent most of his days and nights thinking about this moment. He thought about it more than he did about his remnant experiments and it was still nerve wracking despite all of the pep talks and how Vince encouraged him to the best of his ability. He cleared his throat, his mind rattling around with conversations starters and the horrific pick up lines Vince had told him.

"I hope I'm not a disappointment, you know." You liked at him as he spoke. "You probably wanted someone else to be your blind date instead."

You wanted William not Dave, is what he wanted to say but he didn't want to make you uncomfortable nor reveal his identity. Without realising it you were getting your wish of being on a date with William Afton, if that was still a wish of yours. It had been so long since he changed his identity and appearance and your feelings may have changed drastically as well.

"Actually," you started just as the waiter came over. "I'm happy it's you. Thank you." You thanked the waiter who placed your drink down onto the table, as he turned to place Daves drink down he tripped and spilt the drink all over the blonde.

"FOCK!" He shouted. You swear you saw him as William when he stood up in his drenched clothes and a scowl on his face. The waiter apologised profusely whilst you stared both questioningly and with concern. "Gah! Im soaked."

You grabbed one of the napkins that were neatly folded at one corner of the table and did your best to try and clean Daves clothes, drying his face off first before doing your best to try and dry the fabric. It was useless considering it was an entire drink spilt over his head and down the top of his shirt, his trousers were dry thankfully and it was only the shirt that was the main concern.

"Are you alright?" You asked as you kept dabbing the napkin on his shirt, unaware of how close you actually were to the increasingly flustered blonde and of the two friends who were snickering on the other side of the room. "I'm sure it was an accident."

"Accidents seem to keep following me." He chuckled sourly, thinking back to the springlock failure that almost killed him. He remembered you visiting him in the hospital once, being kind as always and leaving him so flowers and a genuine card wishing him well. You treated him better than most and he completely ignored you like he did with everyone.

"Some people just get bad luck." You shrugged before taking a step back and deciding there wasn't much more to be done. "I have good luck. So that means I cancel out your bad luck, right?"

"Heh. You want to be my lucky charm?" He grinned at you and spoke in his stupid texan accent which you loved just as much as Williams British one. In many ways, Dave reminded you of William which you were assuming was why you were so fine with him being your blind date. It had no way in being how there were differences in behaviour between the two men.

William not caring to even look at you and acknowledge your presence and not being one to actually care about others emotions unless it directly affected him. Even then, he was very ignorant of it all. Dave looked at you a lot, an almost scarily amount of times, he did care about peoples emotions and how people viewed him. You guessed it was because of his Texan ego but you were beginning to think it was more than that.

"If you really believe what I said is true, then, why not?" You sat back down into your own seat, glancing over to the waiter who had disappeared into the back to continue working. "There was a guy I knew who had terrible luck. I miss him."
