Chapter 4: Training

I stand at the ledge of the hole. I look back at Merlin and he just nods his head.

I wished that I could've unintentionally found an ability to fly rather than throw fire.

I look down and I can't even see the bottom. It is pitch black about fifty feet down. I take a deep breath and take one jump towards the middle of the hole.

I am falling and the air is hard brushing againsty body. My head feels dizzy. This lasts about six seconds when I start to levitate in the air rather than falling.

This is weird. I am just floating in thin air. I bend down and I feel no floor. Kate and Venice is nowhere to be seen.

Suddenly a bright portal like thing appears under me and I slowly get pulled into it. Okay, this is weird.

My head is the last to come in. On the other side of the portal is a big clearing about a half a mile in circumference. This part is covered by a very thick and crowded forest.

There are a few tents and other vital surviving items to my left. In the back of me is a bigger Greek like structure. I see Kate is staring at it in amazement and Venice is sitting on a chair by one of the tents looking bored.

The portal appears and Merlin comes through it. As soon as his feet touch the ground the portal vanishes.

Venice comes over and Kate snaps out of her daze. Merlin begins, "Okay so let me introduce everybody.

John is a wizard. I read his mind and saw his past life and experience. He might be the newest member, but he learns quickly as I picked up from reading his mind..."

Whoa, whoa, whoa. This guy read my mind without telling me. Okay. That's not weird.

"Venice was born to witches. She is the most powerful and experienced in our team at the moment. All witches are evil yes, but Venice didn't like their evil ways. She turned to the good side and found the right people. They took her in. However, she still contains dark magic but she uses it for good."

I look at Venice. Her eyes stay the same and face structure, except that the ends of her lips move up no more than a centimeter. Okay. So now I know the whole goth thing and it's reason.

"Catherine is heir to the throne of fairies. She will grow up to be the most powerful fairy when her mom gets to old to run the council. Currently they put Kate in my school to help train her and get her stronger. "

And I am a former human being that just discovered his powers less than 24 hours ago by getting mad at the most basic of this dimensions thugs.

Merlin then points to the Greek like house. "As you can see, this clearing is surrounded by forests. That is because most of the things we learn will need the forest in general.

There will be times where we need to go to another ecosystem for certain training exercises and survival skills. That house has several portals against the wall with big labels on top of each telling what type of ecosystem that portal will lead to.

Now here is what you need to do. Venice, go and find some bears in the forest. Gather them and make them appear here. When you have collected at least ten, I want you to come back and try to hypnotize and control them.

Kate. Stay here and just try to control the trees, vine, etcetera and make them do things that can be useful in fighting.

John, I will teach you to make portals. Now you are not going to create the portal from this dimension to yours because you are not strong enough to make dimension portals.

The reason you need to mainly know this is because I will send you to Madison's house.

She can't create a portal so from her house, you will need to make a portal to your house which is across the country. Everybody go ahead and get started."

Kate vanishes and appears at the other side if the clearing and all kinds of plants and vines start to rise. Merlin starts to make pixel like people appear and Kate immediately knows that she has to kill them.

Those people have deadly weapons like axes, swords, spears, bows, even some guns. She has to kill them  before that kill her.

Venice just walks into the nearest border to the forest and starts looking for bears. Almost immediately, bears start to appear trapped in some sort of invisible cage.

Merlin looks at me. Okay. So here goes my first lesson. "You are a fast learner, so it won't take you long to figure out how to do it. The first lesson is always the hardest. Depending on how much time you have left. I will then teach you a simple or advanced spell."

Well here goes nothing. Just a teenager learning magic.
