Marney McLean- Junior Years Leader (Year 7 & 8)
It's been a busy year in Junior School in 2021! Congratulations to everyone for getting through another year of lockdowns and the remote learning that comes with them.
The year started well with the Welcome Breakfast on the first day of school for all of our new Year 7 Students. It was fantastic to see so many parents and family members supporting their child's transition into our College. The Students were eager to begin the day and it was a great way to begin their secondary school journey.
Term One saw large numbers of Junior School students participate in activities and programs across the College. These included the College's swimming and athletics carnivals, lunchtime activities of the Longest Kick and 4 Square Competitions but the definite highlight for the year 7's was thee Gumbuya World Excursion. This was a fantastic day of rides, learning about native animals and of course waterslides. The term ended with celebration assemblies for each year level that reflected on the terms events and celebrated individual student successes.
Through Remote Learning a number of different competitions were held to support engagement and i would like to congratulate all of those who participated. Scavenger hunts, self-care promotion, attendance awards and work submission competitions were all run with popular prizes being awarded, the most popular of which was the home delivery of Daniel's Donuts.
With the return to school in Term 4 it was so pleasing to see many students keen to get back into onsite learning and they are to be commended on how well they transitioned back into the routines and expectations of the College.
As always i would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the staff, particularly Pastoral Care Teachers, who have worked in Junior School this year. Their dedication is evident in the positive culture of our sub school. Special thanks also go to our Year Level Engagement Coordinators- Mr Trevethan, Mrs Grant, Ms Halm, Mr Lewis, Ms Ward and Ms Naidu who have worked tirelessly throughout the year supporting the students.
Quotes from students:
"During lock down, I would stay in my room and do nothing. But when the afternoon activities were introduced, it became much more fun talking to my friends lol. Playing "Among Us" was fun even when we made made funny sentences like 'Mr Lewis is sus.'" Grace 8G
"Whilst in lockdown we had some competitions during the lunch time activities which you can win things by actually going around your house and it was very fun seeing people struggle to find things but winning those donuts were the best." Olivia 8G
(AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! I HAD TO WRITE THAT ALL OUT BY HAND NOW MY WRIST HURTSSSS)
