"Morning," Lexi walked down the stairs, ready for her bleak day at school.
Her mom was sitting on the couch, already with a Bloody Mary in hand. This wasn't surprising. Her mom was getting worse and worse. Lexi suppressed the fear of her mom's liver exploding from all the alcohol she consumed.
She mainly suppressed the fear of losing both of her parents to addiction.
"Hey Lex bear, come sit with your mama, I wanna chat with you about somethin" her mom managed to slur out, drunk already at 8 in the fucking morning.
Lexi sighed, before obliging to her mom's request and sitting in front of her on the couch.
"Listen, I've missed you for a couple days, I've seen you're busy doing teenager things but I just...I want you to know you can always talk to me about boys if you need to," Suze was a drunk, yes, but she knew when one of her daughters was infatuated.
And She's only used to seeing that on Cassie. Not Lexi. This was new.
"Uhm, okay. Thanks mom," Lexi responded. She really didn't know where her mom was going with this. Or maybe she did, but wanted to play dumb just in case.
"Listen, you also gotta remember to be smart about boys. Listen to Cassie for once, if she says someone isn't good for you, then maybe she's right," her mom continued.
Lexi got up and she swore she was going to kill Cassie. Cassie, once again, snitched.
"What did she exactly tell you?" Lexi gritted out.
Suze held her hand up casually stopping Lexi, while the other was used to bring her drink to her lips.
"Don't shift the blame on your sister, sweetheart. I know you haven't dated much before but you can't mix yourself with guys like the one you're seeing. You gotta think about your future, honey." Suze continued to talk with a wisdom she thought she had.
"You don't know anything. You don't know my relationship. You don't even know that he's been my friend for just about since New Year's Eve." She got up to leave the room. She was furious.
Before leaving she looked at her mom one last time.
"You know, you and Cassie are really good at talking about what I'm up to and whether it's a good idea. But before this, you knew nothing about me in the first place. Did I suddenly become interesting to you because I'm fucking a drug dealer? Are you scared that I'll end up like dad? Don't worry, you're already on your way there yourself." Lexi went back to her room, grabbing a change of clothes, not knowing where she was gonna go.
She ran back down, looking at her mom once more.
"I'm not coming back until tomorrow." She left without letting her mom speak another word.
