No no no no. This wasn't supposed to happen.
Fez saw a doctor enter the waiting area, spotting Fez. Fez was told what happened. Lexi had to give birth soon, a still birth, they had called it. The world came crashing down, voices had no sounds, his sight lost color, he was so confused. No no no no. This wasn't supposed to happen.
Fez's knees buckled, Ash holding his brother as he sobbed. There are very few times where Ash has had to comfort his brother. But never like this. The stakes have never been this high. Ash held his brother as he cried, like a kid who lost his way. Fez had never known pain this heavy, this hurtful, this deafening.
Then Fez remembered Lexi. He needed to see her. With blue eyes now bloodshot, his throat dry, and his body aching, they took him to see his fiance. Maybe God was playing a dirty trick on him. Or maybe Lexi was right, there is no God.
He entered Lexi's room, watching as she stared at her belly, a blank stare so devastating, so empty, so void. Fez immediately hugged her, watching as she finally gave in to her pain. He held his fiance as they both cried and mourned their baby. It was going to be a girl. Cassie was right. A baby girl. They were waiting to tell everyone.
Ash had called Cassie and her mom, as he waited in the waiting area, his head in his hands, devastated. Cassie and her mom had barged into the waiting room, their faces stricken with fear. Ash had not explained the baby's fate.
"Fez and Lexi are okay. Lexi has to give birth uhm...the baby didn't make it." When Ashtray delivered the news, Cassie and her mom's eyes widened, their looks of horror matching each other's faces.
"Lexi, oh my god, Lexi. And Fez oh my god." Cassie began to sob, her mom holding her as they comforted each other. Ash stuck to the side, looking at his shoes, his hands in his pajama pockets when he felt a pull. It was Suze, pulling him into the hug, holding him too. His awkwardly tall build covered the both of them, hugging them how he would hug Lexi. Nothing mattered right now, they needed each other more than ever.
"Fez, she's dead. Our baby's dead." Lexi sobbed into his shoulder, her breathing hitching at every word she let out. Fez cried with her, his eyes closed, wishing this was a nightmare.
The next few hours were the worst hours they've ever experienced in their lives. Lexi had to push, with all the grief and pain in her heart, she had to give birth to a soul that wasn't there anymore. They were given the opportunity to hold her. They cried on her, wishing this was a fairytale and that their tears would somehow wake her from her deep slumber.
"Baby are you sleeping?" Lexi spoke to the baby, delirious from the lack of sleep, delirious from the grief she felt.
"She's just sleeping right?" Lexi looked at Fezco, her eyes hopeful, wanting confirmation. She wanted to live in another world, a world that wasn't cruel enough to take her child.
"Yeah baby, she's just sleeping," Fez's voice breaking in between words. Fez cried on top of Lexi's head, watching as Lexi held the baby in her arms.
"We should give her a name," Fez reminded Lexi. Lexi nodded, her tears once again pooling on her eyelashes.
"Grace?" Lexi suggested. Fez smiled through his tears, nodding his head.
"Our little Grace." Fez began to sob, Lexi following behind him. They cried for their Grace. Their Grace was gone. Their Grace had left this world, leaving them in this dark one on their own.
They had signed all the paperwork, done all of the legalities, and followed the next steps that they had to do. Ash drove them home. Lexi stared at the window, her face blank once again. Fez held her hand, as she stared at the window. She was counting the raindrops that were falling.
