"Quick, sssspread your wingssss and hide me!" Pitaya called out, diving towards Hollyberry's podium.

She had only been awake for a few moments because of the commotion in the arena. It wasn't a battle that much was certain. Hollyberry spread her wings and Pitaya swooped down under it. The distance between them was minuscule, and her scales stung in the heat. But she wasn't lighting up in flames so that was a good sign.

"What's going on? And why are you hiding?" She questioned.

"They're having a trial and Queen Sssscarlet sssaid I wasssn't allowed to watch." Pitaya explained, "I never even bother going to trialsss, they're ssso boring. She knowssss that, ssso why would she tell me I can't go? Ssssomething'sss going on, and I want to sssee what it isss. Remember you owe me. I brought you the mud."

"It's ok, I'd help you anyways." The MudWing replied, "Will someone be looking for you?"

"No, I'm meant to be down in the cavesss looking for black rockssss." Pitaya replied, settling in under her wing.

"Why does Queen Scarlet even bother with trials?" Hollyberry thought out loud.

The SkyWing shrugged, "I guesssss she likesss the drama of them. Oooh, they're ssstarting."

A few guards entered the, and three figures emerged on the raised platform. One was Queen Scarlet in her glittery jewellery. The other two were unrecognisable to Hollyberry, but she noted on dragon had stumps for wings and the other was a deep blood red. She reckoned the red one would look similar to the SkyWing beside her if he had firescales.

"That'ssss Vermilion, Queen Ssscarlet'sss oldessst ssson." Pitaya explained, pointing at the red dragon, "He alwayssss arguesss for the prosecution. And the old one'ssss Ossssprey. He losssst hissss wingssss in the war. He'ssss my friend, but he talkssss like a sssscroll."

"Interesting." Hollyberry mumbled.

"Where's our defendant? Someone fetch her!" Queen Scarlet ordered. The guards disappeared to do her bidding, and returned a moment later with a SkyWing chained up and muzzled.

Hollyberry recognised the prisoner instantly, "Kestrel!"

"You know her?" Pitaya asked curiously.

"Yeah, she's one of the dragons who raised us. They didn't like us much but they kept us alive." This time it was Hollyberry's turn to explain.

"I guessssss even terrible parentsss are better than no parentssss." Pitaya stated quietly, and the MudWing couldn't help but think the statement was true for both of them.

"Loyal subjects! This dragon, Kestrel, stands accused of the highest treason, disobeying me!" Queen Scarlet's voice boomed across the arena.

What could she have done? Hollyberry thought, but she knew the truth would come to light within moments.

"Your majesty, the facts are clear." Vermilion spoke up, "You gave an order and Kestrel disobeyed you. She deserves a long and painful execution."

"Very compelling. Well said. Sounds guilty to me." Scarlet commented.

"Your majesty, I do have a few words to say in the prisoner's defence." The old dragon, Osprey, said.

"If you must."

"You order Kestrel to destroy her egg. It was a single egg, but inside there were two dragonets. One had no fire at all, but the other had too much." Osprey explained, and both dragons on the prisoner podium gasped.

"Too much fire like you?" Hollyberry asked.

"No other dragonetssss like me have hatched in yearssss and yearssss" Pitaya spoke up, and she sensed some denial in his tone.
