A/N: This chapter turned out longer than I expected.
"What do we do now?" Hollyberry asked curiously, although she had a feeling she knew the answer to that question
"Follow the river to the Delta. We'll find your family when we get to the mud kingdom." Golden Cheese decided, and the other five dragonets agreed.
My family, she thought. It sounded strange to say even in her head. She had never really thought about what her family would be like, she was always busy thinking about the next meal or how to survive Queen Scarlet's, Golden Cheese's mother, crazy arena. Maybe they're like me, but not too much like me. Maybe they each have their own little quirks. Maybe they lived a better life than us.
And so the dragonets of destiny and the SkyWing Queen's former champion followed the river to the Diamond Spray Delta like Golden Cheese had suggested. It didn't take as long as she had expected, although they had to camouflage in case any SkyWings flew overhead. Hollyberry had to fly over Pitaya, covering him from view. White Lily turned invisible and flew over Pure Vanilla, hiding them both from sight. Golden Cheese covered herself head to claw in mud to cover her shiny golden scales. She had complained the whole time even when she washed the mud off. After all their effort they finally made it to the Diamond Spray Delta, or at least that's what Hollyberry thought five seconds before they arrived at a fiery battlefield.
The soldiers were MudWings and IceWings, and they were all dead. Some corpses were charred and some were frozen. All of them looked like they had died a terribly painful death.
"This battle must've happened recently." White Lily commented, "Some of the fires are still burning."
"Who do you think won?" Golden Cheese wondered.
Pitaya shrugged as Pure Vanilla shook his head, "Nobody. Who could look at this and think "We won!"?"
"We're at the edge of the mud kingdom now. I should go on alone, the MudWings won't trust the five of us all together." Hollyberry stated.
"It'sss true." Pitaya agreed, "The SkyWingssss may be allied with the MudWingsss, but I doubt they'd let a dragon like me into their home. And not all SsssandWingsss are on Burn'sss sssside, mossst of them aren't. And even if Cheessse is a SsskyWing, they have every right to be sssussspicious of her sssscalessss."
"I'll go with you, Hollyberry." White Lily spoke up, "No one would care I'm a RainWing since they're not in the war. But, I can also do this." The RainWing's scales began shifting colours from white and green to browns, tans and orange.
Hollyberry smiled, "I think you're still too pretty to be a MudWing."
"Nonsense, you're just as pretty as Lily, Hollyberry." Golden Cheese responded.
"I'm not sure how to take that." Hollyberry admitted, her smile turning into a grin.
"We'll wait by the river, be safe." Pure Vanilla told her.
Hollyberry nodded, then she and White Lily took of into the sky. It wasn't long before they spotted a few strange structures and a few MudWings. They seemed to be troops in training. One of the MudWings stood out the front, which meant they must've had some sort of authority. Maybe they know where my family is! The duo swooped down and landed beside the MudWing out the front of the group. His scales were a murky brown and he had a few small scars on his snout.
"Turn! Turn! Left march!" The commander MudWing ordered, and the troops obeyed.
"Ahem." White Lily purposefully cleared her throat by the commander's ear.
"Keep practicing." The older MudWing told the troops, then turned to the two dragonets, "Look, I'm sorry there's only two of you left. But we don't take unsibs."
