Harry and his girlfriend Kelly, with a few of his friends, were talking. Kelly, seeing the two Jenkins girls approach them, waved at them; Debby smiled at her "hey Kells," Debby said, standing in front of Kelly and Harry.
Harry stopped talking and looked at both girls with a bored expression. Dahlia knew why Harry had stopped talking as soon as she approached; he was most likely planning a party in his house.
Parties at Harry's house were most of the time frequent Dahlia wasn't a fan of big crowds where people drink most of the time; it wasn't her scene she didn't quite understand what the point was besides Cassandra didn't go to many parties either Debby, on the other hand, enjoyed them.
In her lifetime, Dahlia might have gone to three parties, and she regretted going to them. One of the parties she went to was back in eighth grade, where Harry and Dahlia kissed. It was Dahlia's first kiss and her last party.
The kiss meant nothing to him clearly since not too long after he had kissed her, Harry started dating Madeleine, and now he was with Kelly, his current girlfriend.
Kelly looked at Harry for a second and then back at Debby "you should come to the party Debby" she smiled and nodded, "I would love to," she looked at her sister, "Uh, you should join us, Dahlia. The party is for those who are planning prom, but I don't see why you two couldn't come," Kelly said nicely, and Harry glared at his girlfriend.
Dahlia gave her a quick smile "no, thank you," she shook her head.
Harry placed his arm over Kelly's shoulder, and he looked at her as he said, "parties are not much of flowers scene, right," he said, looking back at Dahlia with a fake smile.
She crossed her arms over her chest, "I'm going to go," she told her sister, ignoring Harry's comment. "Ok, I'm going to stay" Debby looked excitedly at Kelly, "Ok, be careful, text me every 10 minutes," she joked and hugged her sister. "No promises," Debby said with a smile; Dahlia gave her a look, "fine, I promise I'll text."
"Don't worry, flower, she's going to be with me; she's in good hands." Dahlia looked at Harry "that's what I worry about," she said quietly; Harry's smile slowly faded, she walked away before he could say anything else.
Dahlia arrived at her house, unlocked the front door, and went in. She turned on the light and closed the door behind her. The house was quiet; both of her parents worked in the hospital, her father as a surgeon while her mother as a nurse. It looked like both of them got a late shift; it was only her at the house. She took off her shoes and nicely set them next to the door.
Having nothing else to do, she walked up the stairs to her room. She was exhausted after the long day she had; it didn't take long for her to fall asleep. Dahlia wasn't sure how long she had slept for when she was woken up by the knock coming from the front door. She sat up abruptly, she thought she had imagined it, but there was another knock, someone was at the front door. She yawned and got out of the bed, stumbling a little as she walked down the stairs slowly.
Both her parents had keys for the house, and their shift wouldn't end for a few more hours. Debby might have forgotten her keys in her room as she always does, and if she had a few drinks tonight, Dahlia knew she needed to open the door before she could fall asleep on the porch.
She opened the door, and in fact, it was Debby. What surprised her was that her sister was carried bridal style by Luke, the quarterback of the football team of their high school.
She blinked at him; maybe she was dreaming "hey," he said softly, "Uh hi," she responded, still not believing that he was there.
Luke and her were classmates; they didn't talk much in high school; being the quarterback made him popular just by that, so she knew who he was. Luke was tall; he had brownish hair with pretty blue eyes; he was a nice view.
She probably needed to stop staring at him and let him in.
"Sorry, come on in." She opened the door more, and moved out of the way as Luke, still carrying Debby, walked into the house.
How he knew where she lived was a mystery to her.
"Not there; if my parents see her there, they are going to flip," she told him as he was setting Debby on the couch. "Where should I lay her," he said, looking at Debby, who moved her head a little.
"Follow me," Dahlia said; as she walked up the stairs, she looked over her shoulder; Luke was slowly following her. She turned right and opened the first door on the left.
Dahlia walked into Debby's room that was painted a pretty pastel green, and on one wall, she had a wallpaper of a few leaves; next to her bed, she had a small nightstand, a lamp on top, that Dahlia turned on when she walked in the room. On the other side of her room, she had a small vanity, her makeup everywhere, and clothes on top of the chair.
Dahlia moved the clothes that were on the bed to the side; Luke carefully set her down on the bed. Dahlia moved the blanket and covered her.
She turned around "thank you for bringing her here," she smiled at him "no problem, I wanted to make sure she made it home safe" Dahlia smiled at that, "that's very nice of you, Luke." With the noise of them talking, Debby moved a bit in her sleep, "I should go," Luke pointed to the door, "Yeah, of course, I'll walk you," Dahlia said, he followed her down the stairs.
"I'll see you tomorrow," Luke said as he walked out the door. She nodded at him, tomorrow they had the class trip to the Great Smoky Mountains. She was excited about the trip; she had seen a few pictures online, and it was beautiful; she couldn't wait to see them in person.
"See you tomorrow once again, thank you" he smiled back at her and waved her a simple goodbye.
