“Almost there, I got stuck in traffic.” He’s driving on the way to my apartment, we’re hanging out tonight before I go home this weekend.
“It’s okay, you can hang up. I’ll just wait for you here.” I sound so tired. As much as I wanted to go to sleep right away because today has been draining, I know I want to spend time with him still. He’s making so much effort in making sure he always keeps his promises the least I could do is wait for him.
“Jamie, I’m here… where are you at?” I woke up to the sound of his voice. I fell asleep. Crap.
“Bedroom, sorry.” I responded.
“Are you feeling okay?” he put the back of his hand to my forehead checking if I have a fever.
“I’m fine, I just fell asleep waiting.”
“Oh okay. I got you mul naengmyeon, come on let’s eat.”
“Thank you.”
We’re talking about our day and he’s telling me all about this new project they are working on. He sounds so happy about it.
I on the other hand is getting so sleepy. My eyes are about to fall but I am trying to make sure I still keep awake because we rarely see each other these days due to the extra hours I’m putting in on my assessments and reports or him but it’s mostly me who’s always late heading home.
He’d even wait for me sometimes but I’d always fall asleep in the car so he’d just wake me up when we’re at my apartment.
I’m responding in one liners or just a few sounds to acknowledge what he is saying. I feel so bad about this but I am so exhausted today.
That one challenging case has been my top priority at the hospital but I was given another one to handle today which added up to the exhaustion.
“Jamie?”
“Hmm…”
“Let’s get you to bed so you could rest properly.”
I felt him lift me up and I couldn’t do anything but just wrapped my arms around his neck because I’m really too sleepy.
He probably went home right after.
