Chapter Two: Would You Just Turn Around?

"Miss, Mairette! Did you hear?!"

I turned to look at the student calling my name. "Did I hear what, Gabbie?"

"BTS is doing a show! ON THE SHIP!" The girl yelled out that last part so loudly that I had to cover my ears with my hands.

"Can you please take a breath and then tell me that again?" I asked her. "I could barely understand you."

"You know who BTS is, right?" Gabbie asked. She was bouncing up and down with excitement. I hadn't gotten seasick since being on board, but watching Gabbie might change that.

"Of course I do," I told her with a laugh as I grabbed her shoulders to hold her still. "I don't live under a rock."

"Well they are coming ON THE SHIP," Gabbie started screeching again.

"BTS is going to be on the ship?" I asked, still trying to understand.

"THAT'S WHAT I'M TELLING YOU!"

I laughed and patted her shoulder, then sent her on her way. I wasn't going to get any more information out of her at this rate. I pulled out my cell phone and connected it to the ship's wifi. I had absolutely no service when we were out at sea, but I could use the ship's wifi to access the teacher's portal, which is what I was currently doing.

Announcement:

One of our students onboard the Odyssey, entered a 'Have BTS perform at your school' contest, and apparently, she won. So tomorrow, BTS will be giving a concert for all of our Semester at Sea students when we dock at the International Passenger Terminal at Incheon. Please be prepared for the influx of security that will be coming on board for this event. BTS will be giving a fan meet and greet after the show for the contest winner and the rest of her class. We will send a separate email to this homeroom teacher, with a list of duties they will have to perform. As always, thank you for the care that you show our students and please show it to the guests we will have on board the Odyssey tomorrow, as well.

Huh. That was interesting. When I was in school, bands and groups used to do that perform at your school contest all of the time, but I wasn't aware that it was even a thing outside of the 90s.

My phone dinged and I opened up my staff e-mail app.

Dear Miss Carter,

I hope that by now, you have seen our announcement about BTS giving a concert on the ship tomorrow. If not, please refer to the staff portal on the school app.

A student in your homeroom class, Madison Landry, was selected as winner of the 'Have BTS Perform at Your School' contest. I apologize for the late notice, but we were just informed ourselves a couple of days ago. We tried to get their management company to pass it on to someone else, as we are not really prepared for a show like this on board, but they informed us that BTS insists on it being the person who was chosen, as it was done by an essay contest, and they were all impressed with Miss Landry's essay.

Unfortunately for you, this means that you will have some added duties tomorrow. You and Miss Landry will greet BTS and their staff when they board the Odyssey at 9 am tomorrow morning. The two of you will give them a short tour and tell them about our school. After the show, your homeroom class will join BTS for a meet and greet.

Again, I apologize for the late notice, but I know that you will be able to handle this, and also keep Miss Landry in line. Please let me know if you have any questions.
