Leaving (Autumn and Calum)

"I have to go soon." Calum whispered.

Autumn and Calum were currently sitting together on the couch. Calum was due to leave for Japan in less than an hour. Autumn was due to leave for Australia in just over two hours. And neither one of them wanted to say goodbye.

"Can I drive you to the airport?" Autumn whispered, her head on his chest.

"I wouldn't have it any other way." Calum whispered, kissing her forehead.

Their time dwindled to a close. Neither one wanted to go. But, they had no other choice. They packed up, got in the car, and made their way to the airport to see each other off.

Way too soon they pulled up to the entrance. Calum parked the car, grabbed his stuff, and walked through the doors. Autumn was hot on his heels.

They checked in, went through baggage, and found themselves waiting for Calum's plane. It didn't feel right. Here he was getting ready to leave now. And she was going to leave right after. A year and a half apart.

"Now boarding for a nonstop flight to Japan. Now boarding for a nonstop flight to Japan."

Autumn sat up and kissed Cal one more time. Tears flowed down her cheeks. Calum bit back the urge to cry.

"See you soon." He whispered.

"See you soon." She answered.

They let go and she watched as he boarded the plane. He left with her heart. And she was carrying his to Australia.

The distance was hard. They had scheduled Skype sessions but, half the time they were busy or way too tired. The time zones were completely different. When she was awake he was sleeping. And vice versa.

Autumn was lying in the room of her hotel listening to music. She had allowed herself time to cry but, soon her eyes went dry.

Both Calum and Autumn were fighting. They were fighting the distance. They had to hold onto the fact that they were going to see each other soon. They had to hold onto the hope. The joy. The memories.

"She sleeps alone. My heart wants to come home. I wish I was, I wish I was beside you. She lies awake. I'm trying to find the words to say. I wish I was, I wish I was beside you."
