(Calum's PoV)

I had just finished up at the studio. The guys and I were working on our third album after taking a break. I was going to take my girlfriend out for dinner and she wasn't answering my calls. My stomach knotted itself into a million loops. Something was wrong.

"Hey Marian. It's Calum. Where are you? Call me when you get this, babe. Please."

I left another message and decided to go to her house. Again. I knocked on her door worriedly. Where was she? She never left without telling someone? Cancelling just wasn't like her at all.

"Calum?" Her mother answered the door.

"Hey, is Marian here?"

"No. I thought she was with you."

I watched as her face transformed into concern. It mirrored my own and I knew then, that something was terribly wrong.
---
Her mother told me to go home that night and that she'd call if there was any sort of news. The thought that my girlfriend was missing, sent my body into a panic. I couldn't lose her. If something happened to her... I'd only have myself to blame. Because I couldn't save her.

My phone rang later and I jumped for it, snatching it up and pressing answer in a matter of seconds. Who could it be? It had to be Marian. It had to be.

"Hello?"

"Calum?" A voice croaked.

Marian.

"Baby, where are you?" I demanded, relief and panic mixing into my words.

"I-I don't know. Help me Cal. Please." She pleaded. I could practically hear the agony in her voice. I could see the pain in her eyes. How they went from bright to dull. A million images flashed before my eyes. And each one of them was a new horror.

Calum's mind raced. His heart pounded. He had to get to her before something happened. But, how?

"I don't have much time. I-I don't know where I am. An abandoned church maybe? There's a crucifix." She whimpers.

I'm immediately on my feet. I barely have time to put on my shoes. Keeping Marian on the phone, I get in my car. I know of an old church not far from here. Adrenaline pulses through my veins.

It's not long till I get there. I can hear Marian's breath on the other end. It's comforting to me. Just knowing that she's alive. It's enough for anyone to shout for joy.

The church is ramshackled and old. The glass is broken, the steeple cracked. When I step forward, it freaks in the wind, sending my heart into a blaze. The old stained-glass is shattering around my feet. It seems as though nobody has been there for years. And I'm sure they had a good reason. But, as long as Marian was in there... That's all the reason I needed.

"Mare?" I whispered, pushing the door open.

My footsteps are loud and echo through the dark, bouncing off of what's left of the church's walls. The ground shifts beneath my feet as I walk. I'm trying to be as quiet as I possibly can. I wanted to get out of here as carefully as possible.

I look around and there, in the middle of the room, is Marian.

Her hair is pulled in several different directions. It hangs in her face, distorting her features from where I stand. Her body looks damaged and broken. My hear constricts in pain. They hurt her. My Marian.

"Marian?" I whisper, walking up behind her.

Her mouth is bloodied and gagged. There's a gash across her cheek and its swelling. Her bottom lip is split with dried blood. She can barely keep her head up. Her arms are tied behind her to the chair she sits in, her ankles bound to the legs. I can tell that there are multiple bruises that cover her beautiful body and it fills me with anger. The sight of her broken and battered body, physically hurts me beyond words.

"Mare." I whisper again.

Her eyes struggle to open and focus on me. I undo the rope that keeps her tethered here. Her wrists and ankles are burned, the rope being too tight. She winces in pain when I finally get them loose. She watches me, barely registering that it's me.

I pick her up carefully and turn towards the door. I dial for the police as I move out the door, my heart thundering loudly. Marian shakes beneath me and my heart aches.

I rush to the car and put her inside, kissing her forehead lightly. I let out the breath I had been holding in. My foot steps on the gas when the car starts and I speed away.

On the way to the hospital, my mind whirls. But, there's only one thing that matters. Marian is safe. And she's coming home.
---
"You're a hero, Calum."

Marian was admitted to the hospital three days ago. The doctors said that her wounds were extensive and that she was lucky to be alive. They said that she would make a full recovery and that she'd be able to come home soon.

Marian and I are currently sitting in her hospital room. She's telling me how I should cut my hair and how upset she is that she missed an episode of her favorite show. Typical Marian.

But, she's cuddled up to me. And she's safe. And that's all that matters.
