It had been a few days since Izuku last talked to Bakugo. A week of talking and getting to learn more about Shinsou who visited him in the infirmary during his lunch break. Todoroki also came up to talk to me for a bit, well more like sit and observe me. He and Uraraka were super helpful in finishing his meals though. He could finish the soup but the bread and pudding that came with it Uraraka would finish and Shoto helped him eat the fruits his mom packed him for a snack along with a juice box to help take medication.
"I still think that grape juice is better than apple."
"Well I think it depends on the container too."
Izuku and Uraraka were chatting while Shoto and Shinsou listened. They would talk in short sentences when probed but otherwise the two seemed to be more interested in their lunches. Izuku talked the most due to his ramblings. Izuku found their company really nice, they didn't seem to ask too much about his personal life which was also really nice as well.
The class had sensed the awkwardness between the explosive blonde and the fragile looking green haired boy. The blonde being even more explosive as usual, and not waiting to walk the green haired boy home as he used. Rather it was Todoroki and Shinsou who had taken the role after a worried Recovery Girl had asked the two to take care of Izuku.
"Izuku you need to finish the soup or else you can't take your medicine." Shinsou states. Due to Izuku's lack of appetite he had been given a thick soup Izuku had found delicious and not as difficult to consume. Izuku nods and takes another sip of his soup, he had already finished half, thanks to Uruaka's encouragement. Izuku felt himself bubble with happiness knowing he could eat lunch with friends.
"Yes, Shinsou-kun." Izuku timidly takes another sip.
Todoroki held out his now bandaged hand out, allowing the timid boy to look at it. His small cool hands rubbed his hand bandaged one, inspecting the damage and wrappings. Izuku muttered quietly under his breath before giving a firm nod and letting go. "T-thank you. Todoroki-kun. Here! I have new stickers!" He yelled one out of his back pocket and handed it to the bicolored teen.
Todoroki looked at the sticker he was given, it was a little smaller than his palm. The sticker was one with the All Might symbol on it. Todoroki looked up at the green boy and nodded his thanks before tucking it into his pocket for safe keeping. Uraraka giggles and Shinsou lazily smiles, now checking out the stickers Izuku has.
Izuku smiled at the action, he looked a little healthier than before from the vitamins he was given and the lack of use of his quirk, but there was still the problem that he ate too little and was stressed too often. His mother is able to coax him to eat a meal at home but school lunches and breakfast were small or skipped. Izuku was also immensely tense in large crowds and strangers, especially when they were students the same age as him.In the last two days alone while walking home he was stopped by a few middle school students and elementary students who saw his uniform. Izuku smiled and did his best to avoid confrontation with anyone, other than the neighbors he sometimes helped in his complex and neighborhood.
No one ever pushed and asked about his problems, despite the glaring fact that Izuku seemed to have a few. The explosive blonde also stayed away being pulled into Kirishima's group, while Izuku slowly but surely started talking to his classmates and with Ilda via text, now in his own group. The two had stopped talking completely to each other, and anyone who would approach the topic would be given a murderous glare by the blonde and a pout from the greenette.
"Hey Midoriya, don't forget these." Shinsou handed him a handful of vitamins, supplements and his meds, as he saw that his bowl was finished. Izuku thanked Shinsou before throwing them into his mouth and swallowing them down with water. The sandy and sour pills made Izuku gag a bit.
"Midoryia-kun how long do you have to take all these?" asked Todoroki as he eyed the number of bottles on Izuki's desk.
"Well, by tomorrow I don't have to take the two green pills, but I'll need to continue with the supplements unfortunately." Izuku pouts.
The brown haired girl awws and tries to comfort Izuku. "Can't you take them in liquid form? Then it might taste better."
"Then it would take longer." The purple hair boy counters. "At least you look better. Seriously you were paler than the sheets. I heard class B came to visit before school hours since they were worried about the school's angel."
Izuku blushed remembering the students he had helped taking their time to come visit him in small groups. It had been a bit nerve wracking, but helpful. A reminder that this was not like middle school, and how he was doing a decent job at the very least.
"Midoryia-kun, instead of Deku we should call you angel-sama." Uraraka giggles. Todoroki nods in agreement making Izuku even more flustered. Shinsou laughs, also joining in the teasing.
Soon enough though, their break was nearing an end and the group headed to class 1-A. Shinsou and Todoroki, silently leading the way as the other two speak happily behind them. Right at the entrance of the classroom, the two taller boys abruptly stopped making the two behind them bump into their backs.
"Huh? Why'd you guys stop walking? We already made it to cla-" Uraraka's happy face turned sour as she showed who they had bumped into. Todoroki and Shinsou with indifferent expressions emitted an atmosphere of bloodlust as they had none other than bumped into the explosive blonde and his group. The group stood behind him in shocked silence as the blonde glared murderously at the three. He sneered at them, challenging them.
Todoroki eyebrows lowered into a glare. Shinsou raised his chin and aggronantly looked down upon the blonde while Uraraka glared daggers her hands hovering near the Izuku, preventing him from even looking at the blonde. Although not knowing the reason for the pair's friction, it was evident the three didn't want to upset Izuku.
"I want to talk with Deku. Move extras."
"Why should we? Clearly you make him uncomfortable." Uraraka growls.
"I agree." Todoroki steps forward looking Bakugou right in the eye as he starts up his quirk. Bakugou in retaliation takes a step forward and sparks up his own quirk.
"Shitty half-n-half, wanna die? I need to talk with Deku. I don't need to waste time with trash like you."
"Trash? At least we aren't a burning shit show like you." Shinsou strolls up to Bakugou completely contradicting his aggressive aura, and demonic expression. "What gives you the right to make such demands?"
"Whaddya say you pr-"
"Enough!" Izuku shouts. Has everyone lost their minds? Bakugou he could understand but the two most quiet people and the happiest look like they want to rip him to shreds. What did he do to make them this way???
"Class is going to start! Katuski-kun I'll talk later, if you have something to say. Let's go, bye Shinsou good luck with class." Izuku doesn't even look at Katsuki as he grabs Uraraka's hand and drags her in the room with him, not even sparing the other a glance. Todoroki and Shinsou gave Bakugou an indifferent stare before turning to their respective place.
The blonde was dumbstruck. It had been almost a week. Almost a week without hearing Izuku rambling about some kind of quirk analysis to him. Almost a week since he had walked him home. Almost a week since they both looked at each other.
"Yo, Bakubro... ya good?" asked Kirishima. He cautiously placed his hand on the blonde's shoulder. Mina, Denki and Sero cautiously step back a bit in case the boy explodes. Bakugou breathing had become irregular as his hands sparked .He couldn't hit anything though.
"Shit!" In his anger he turned to the redhead and started yelling at him. "What's it ta ya? Wha- the fuck you laughing for?! This shit is funny or something."
Much to the surprise of Sero and Kirishima, Mina and Denki were laughing . The 3 of them looked at the two as if they had a death wish. "HAHA! I can't believe it took me so long to realize... you're powerless...hahah... against Midoryia."
"T-the great Bakugou looks *wheezes* like a dejected puppy. Hahaha... did ya guys fight, not something? I'm sorry, you're so gone for him." Denki wipes a stray tear.
The two quickly begin to cower in fear though as the demonic look on Bakugou's face made him look as if he was ready to burst the school into flames. Sero and Kirishima stepped back with a silent prayer for the two.
The blonde was steaming with rage but he managed to do the most unexpected thing as instead of blowing up he sighs and slapped a hand over his face. A light blush forming on his cheeks, this time the group stared at the blonde with huge shocked eyes.
"Bro...do you... do you need help apologizing or something?" Kirishima asks in his state of shock.
Bakugou looks away and growls. "Yea, I... .."
"What was that dude?" Denki asks, stepping a bit closer.
"Yeah, I wan..."
"What?" Sero now questions.
"YEAH I NEED TO APOLOGIZE! YA HAPPY FUCKIN NOSY SHITS! I messed shit up okay? I-I..." Bakugou refuses to ask. He doesn't need help. Not when he should be able to do this much. He wouldn't admit he spent the last week with the thought of Izuku in his mind. How it hurt that the crybaby he had known for over a goddamn decade is ignoring him. How it hurt to see him hanging out with a group of nobodies. How it hurt that he knew he was a jackass and he still can't admit it. How it hurts that he was supposed to be Izuku's number one hero but he wasn't. No matter what Izuku says he still hurt him, saw him collapse, scare him, worry him, lie to him, he was the whole reason Izuku stuttered, why he couldn't define their relationship. Bakugou should've said something, run after him, a million of things he could've done but instead he only let him go.
Izuku no longer needs him. It was all too clear when Izuku was with engine legs. Izuku was changing, he was breaking out of the shell made around him. Izuku who had no idea how much he actually cared. With or without a quirk Bakugou knew he needed Izuku. That he would've kept him in his life. He didn't express that though and now all he could think was it was too late, and he was crumbling without Izuku.
Did...did he even deserve to be forgiven. What kind of hero makes a guy who cares about him so much want to kill themselves. Burn their dreams just like that. He needs to get stronger, he needs Izuku but he isn't on top anymore. He's losing on all sides, the freaking half and half bastard didn't even think he was worth his full power. Izuku was friends with him, why can't it be that easy for him?!
"Bakugou? You good man? We can help out ya know? If you're having a tough time." Kirishima says the group behind him looked worriedly at the explosive blonde, also determined to help.
The blonde face twisted in a slight frown, his thoughts swirling in his mind. "It's not that simple." Maybe it was how tired he was or the fact these four had been pestering him too long but the words come out small for Bakugou. He walks into the classroom with the group following behind him.Their lessons went quietly, and just as Bakugou texted Izuku he would wait for him near the infirmary, knowing that the greenette had to visit there anyways. Bakugou growls at all the students that stare at him outside the nurse's door as anxiousness nips at his guts. He waits there for a good twenty minutes, each second the debate between staying and leaving gets fiercer and fiercer. In the moment he was about to leave, a bob of green hair made him freeze.
Izuku was slowly walking over to him, his hands both holding onto the bag bouncing off his thighs. Clearly he was nervous as one can see with him biting his lip and twitching fingers, but the teen had a determined look in his eyes. Something the Bakugou never thought would be directed at him from Izuku.
Bakugou just as nervous pulled on his usual scowl and shoved his free hand in his pocket. His pride is unable to allow him to show Izuku or anyone his vulnerability. The two lock eyes, no words exchanged as Izuku comes to a halt in front of him, both stuck in a standstill. No one is in the halls anymore other than one or two passerbys. The two could only hear distant chattering and footsteps in the long hallway in the corner of the school.
How long has it been since Bakugou had been this close to the smaller boy, not even a step away from him. He wanted to touch him. Hold him. Tell him he's sorry and he wishes he could smack himself because he actually didn't care if he had a quirk or not, that he actually needs Izuku in his life to function. That's why he hated him because unlike him Izuku was just better at being a hero than him whether he was quirkless or not.
It's Izuku who speaks first. "Katsuki-kun?" The blonde felt as if he was punched in the gut when Izuku called him that.
"Don't call me that. It's gross when you say my name like that."
Izuku's eyes widened a bit, not expecting that reaction but didn't comment. Bakugou clutched his bag tighter as his nerves started snapping at him. He began to speak without a filter.
"When did you get so close to so many freaks?"
"They aren't freaks. They are my friends."
"Friends? Last time I checked you don't have any friends and you don't need them."
"That's not for you to decide. It's not like you're my friend anyways, why does it concern you?"
"So I'm better than them! You don't need those fucking extras! All you need if me an-"
"What are you to me? I asked if you had something important to say to Katsuki-kun. I don't need nor want to hear this. When you have something to actually tell me, text me. Bye." Izuku, despite his firm attitude, scurried off, unable to look at Bakugou any longer. The blonde once again left in shock.m, as the crybaby stood up to him again.
He wasn't Kacchan to Deku anymore. He felt as if he truly had lost him. He wasn't Izuku's hero anymore. He felt... he felt... abandoned. And Kastuki knew it was all his fault. The rage that accumulated in him dissipated as he hopelessly looked at the place Izuku had been, not even arm's length away, he stared at the spot as if it would magically bring the green haired boy back. He wasn't even an arm's length away and he didn't say anything. He didn't do anything. He fucked it up again and it hurt like a bitch.
He felt as if he was spiraling out of control. How could this have happened? Why didn't he tell Izuku how much he cared earlier? Why didn't he protect him better ... he had to change. He wanted to be Izuku's number one. He needed Izuku.
"Bakubro!!" Kirishima sling his arm around the blonde. The rest of the group followed behind. The blonde boy in his moment of spiraling had started to steam with his pent up nerves, quirk ready to explode out of control.
"Shitty hair! What the fuck are you doing here?!" Bakugou screams ready to blow the other up for seeing him in his moment of weakness.
"No need to worry about that! What kind of apology was that?" Denki shouts. The group cringed at his attempt and almost started shouting for the blonde to shut up. They felt pity for the green haired boy who they assumed had dealt with his extreme personality all these years.
"Yeah dude plus he's not yours, you can't control who his friends are. What is your over controlling boyfriend?" Sero states that his peer is actually a complete scumbag.
"W-what the fuck string bean?! I ain't datin' no one!" Bakugou shrugs Kirishima off of him.
"Well Bakugou, it just looks like you needed some help. Plus poor Midoryia looks like he deserves an actual apology from you. Hopefully one that doesn't leave him feeling like trash." Ashido amusedly states at Bakugou. Denki and Sero also found this a bit amusing as clearly the blonde was failing at making a simple apology.
The blonde growled and looked at the floor as the group made more jabs at him. Despite how much it hurt his ego it was all fucking true. He fucking just made a disaster of the one person he wanted to protect the most.
"Fine. Shitty hair gimme that." Bakugou snatched Kirishima's phone which he had assumed was unlocked (he was right) , and punched in his number.
"Text me when you can talk. You all share a dingle fuckin brain cell but don't act like it if you don't want me to have to get a new number and blow up yer phones."
The group stared in awe at Kirishima's phone as the blonde embarrassed and angry walked away. He would change, if it meant he could talk to Izuku again because he wouldn't lose his number one.he couldn't. If that meant associating with extras then fuck it he didn't completely loathe shitty hair anyways. What he didn't expect was a whole new obstacle in his way."Dad! You're home early!"
