It was a little half past four in the afternoon while Spencer was putting on his shoes, getting ready to head to the Bakers for their weekly family dinner. Something he would've been happy to attend months prior. Especially since he would be able to spend the evening with Olivia. And any chance that he got to spend with her had always been the highlight of his day.

But tonight was not one of those nights he was excited for. It had been quite the opposite actually. And if his mother and brother weren't going, he would've bailed. Olivia knew him and was always a few steps ahead, so she was smart to invite his family to come along. Leaving him no choice but to attend the dreadful dinner. Especially with how the Baker family dinners go, he was nervous this too wasn't going to end well.

Feeling a dip in the bed beside him, Spencer finished lacing his shoes, while his mother's hand rested on his back. Soothing away his worries, she made small continuous circles. Something that always helped calm his wandering thoughts. Meeting her eyes, she gave him a warm smile.

"You almost ready to go, baby?". His mother asked quietly. Spencer gave a long sigh, resting his knees on his elbows. "Ready as I'll ever be momma. I'm not excited I'll tell you that. I can only imagine how coach-". Spencer took a deep breath, before continuing.

It was weird not to call him coach, but Spencer wanted to be formal tonight knowing that he was meeting Olivia's parents as her now-boyfriend. "-Mr. Baker is feeling. He's not happy with me these days,". Spencer stood up walking over to his mirror and fixing his button-down out of nerves. Not wanting to sit in one place for too long, he grabbed a belt and looped it around the black jeans he'd been wearing.

His mother shook her head not agreeing with how Billy had been acting, let alone treating her son. She didn't want to get in the middle of it, as they both needed to figure it out on their own. The only thing she did was give them both advice on how to move forward. But she was happy Olivia had stepped in, and if Billy would say something to her son this evening, then she would make sure to step in. For now, she stood on the sidelines hoping they would at least have an open and honest conversion. "I'm happy Olivia did this,". Grace smiled walking across the room to place her hands on her son's shoulders.

"I know, I know, It's not ideal and you may feel uncomfortable being in his house. But you both can't avoid each other forever Spencer. Especially since you are dating his daughter. You are going to run into him eventually, or at the least will need to have a conversation. He is still your coach, and as much as you both don't want to admit it, you both need each other. You've been each other's rock since your junior year. Sure he may be angry because he's hurt and a very stubborn man, but he still loves you like his own. Besides, maybe it'll stop all the moping around you two have been doing,".

A smile tugged on his mother's lips raising an eyebrow at her son who tried to interject telling her that he hadn't been moping, when in fact he had. But with the knowing look on his mother's face, he knew better than to talk back. "Have I ever told you how much I like Olivia? She's a definite keeper. She knows how to deal with you two knuckleheads, which says a lot,". His mother patted her son's back when he smiled shaking his head. "Now come on wouldn't want to set a bad first impression on your future in-laws,".

His mother winked when Spencer scrunched his eyebrows. "Momma, ain't nobody talking about marriage,". Grace chuckled turning around to pinch his cheek. "I know baby, and it better stay like that until you graduate college,". Spencer agreed while the both of them walked towards the door when Grace called back to Dillon to hurry up. His little brother rushed out of his room following Spencer and his mother.

Ringing the doorbell, The chime echoed throughout the home, while Spencer took a few steps back waiting for the door to open. He heard Olivia's voice call out that she had been coming. Her boots clicked the hardwood floor below, rushing to the door. Grabbing the handle, she exhaled, smoothing out her skirt before opening the door, grinning from ear to ear. She hugged Grace first, then Dillon, leaving Spencer for last.
