The Meaning of Life #4

    Jake is looking at the sky. You can see the happiness and worry in his eyes. Yes, now his friends will not suffer anymore, but what about him? Being the head of an entire middle school seems tough. For a moment, he forgot that he has Dean, Tim and Eunchan.

  He's so absorbed in his thoughts that not even the sound of steps that's becoming louder and louder makes him realize that he should maybe just leave. After all, this image would come up as a shock to every single person who sees him.

  — There you are, you fucker, says Dean, struggling to catch up his breath. Do you know how worried I was that you'd do some dumb shit?

  The taller boy didn't realize yet that his friend beat up Naksung Fam. He thought it was just a bunch of random bullies.

  — Sorry, mumbles Jake. But I didn't do some dumb shit this time.

  — What the hell do you mean? Look at yourself, you're dirty and have blood all over your body, yells Dean, now even more concerned.

  The black haired boy raises his head to see the 5 members of Naksung Fam almost unconscious on the cold concrete.

  — You did this?

  Jake smiles. Just this reaction tells Dean that his friend indeed just defeated the ones at the top of the hierarchy.

  — Get up! Let's go tell Tim and Eunchan about this, says the taller boy.

  Jake slowly gets up from his place and walks to his friend, purposely stepping on Naksung's hand on his way. The news about this are going to be wild.

  On their way, Jake is assaulted by countless questions. Some of them are stupid, which is not that common for Dean. Nonetheless, he answers all of them to the surprise of his friend. "He's actually listening?", thinks Dean. What else could he do though? He already walked with an empty mind for a few tens of meters.

  — And then I jumped off the dumpster and hit a guy's face midair. It was amazing, says the orange haired boy enthusiastically.

  Dean nods. He can't believe this is happening. Jake Ji being the number 1 of Daehyeon middle school. That's odd.

  When the two end up meeting Eunchan and Timothy, Jake doesn't waste any time before jumping on Eunchan and hugging his friend.

  — I did it! I took revenge on them for you.

  — What are you talking about? Did Dean hit your head too hard yesterday? asks Eunchan confused.

  The orange haired boy shows his friend the picture of him and the unconscious Naksung Fam, but Eunchan doesn't believe it at all.

  — Tim, do you think this is fake? asks the short boy.

  — It doesn't seem like it, says his friend while squirting his eyes to analyze the picture better.

  — I fucking beat him up, you gotta believe me, yells Jake.

  Eunchan and Timothy look into each other's eyes. You can read on their face that they're asking: "should we believe this bastard?". They end up agreeing to do so in the next 2 seconds, when they nod almost at the same time, still making eye contact. One of the only times these two were ever synchronized, really.

  — I'm gonna tell the entire school. You're awesome, man! says Eunchan smiling.

  Jake is happy. His friends are proud of him and he actually beat Naksung Fam up. That Naksung Fam. He doesn't even care that now, he most probably is gonna have some responsibilities. Jake is enjoying the moment, but he has no idea that he's gonna do it even more soon.

  As time passes, the rumors that the head of the school got defeated by a nobody spread like wild fire.

  — Jake Ji!? Who the fuck is that? asks one of Eugene's classmate, confused by the piece of information he just heard.

  Eugene also heard that rumor, but come on now, Naksung is undefeatable. He's sure someone just made that up for attention, after all, no one ever heard of this Jake Ji. How could someone so powerful not be a bully or some shit?

  — Eugene, do you believe what those guys said? asks a random classmate.

  — Of course not, Naksung is Naksung, there's no way someone can defeat him, responds the short boy.

  — Well, you're right.

  The two boys decide to just ignore the rumors. They don't believe it, even though, deep down, both of them wish they're true. Jake Ji doesn't sound like the name of a bad guy... right?

  The day passes in the end and the two of them end up going home. Taking a break from all those surprised noises they heard all day.

  Eugene heads home. "I didn't hear anything from Naksung Fam today. Usually, when someone talks shit about them, they beat them up. Why didn't it happen today?" he thinks as he walks to his home. The possibility of this Jake Ji actually becoming the new number 1 of Daehyeon middle school is actually high.

  Eugene falls asleep thinking of this. It's one of the only times when he actually wants to go to school. To see what's happening. Maybe the bullying will actually end.

  The next day is sunny, warm, beautiful. The Daehyeon middle school students actually seem as happy as the weather. Eugene enters the school just to find a bunch of students close to each other, looking like they're waiting for something or someone.

  Eugene is confused. What could they be waiting for? Did the lunch lady finally get fired after spitting in children's food for the hundredth time? He sees something greater than this though. The handsome face of a tall, happy guy.

  — That is our new number 1, Eugene hears the whispers next to him.

  His eyes start to sparkle and he looks at the boy in the hallway, completely hypnotized.

 

  Well, I finally got my lazy ass to finish this. I am pretty proud of what I wrote. I hope you enjoy it too. Also, I am very happy to say that Eugene finally fell in love! This feels so nice!
